ANALYSIS OF DIGIPAKS

Front cover On the front cover you are more than likely to see what is called “Alum art work” this is usual some piece of art that the band has done themselves or have got made for them to present an album, each one is different and unique in its own way. Here I have an album from Bring Me The Horizon – Sempiternal, this is their logo, however I have got this album signed, luckily.

The one at the bottom is more old school, from a band called Kiss who actually have the ands face on the front cover, this is more of an old style and not seen a lot in the present day.

The backThe back of a digipak is usually just plain and consist of the track listing of all the songs included in the album/ EP. It also holds other information such a price, barcode, company, more details about the band with following website links and numbers.

Some however are more graphic and follow on the album art work themes as the A Day To Remember one shows at the bottom.

Front and back, Inside and out

The digipak is held together by plastic, the whole thing is as it opens like a book, to show a CD inside with a leaflet of paper rather than pages. The colour theme is followed throughout the whole product, and you can see the CD actually replicates the album art work in some way. However the themes will change from each one so every one is unique.

There are usually just one disk however if a bonus album then you can get up to three, all hidden in separate compartments.

Inside the booklet

Inside to the left side of the digipak you will find a small booklet which usually contains the song lyrics, information about the band, or thank you letters for making the album happen. For this one it is very special as each song has its own art work, it is beautiful placed with the song lyrics underneath all 12 songs. You may find that this also has a poster inside or pictures of the band it’s self which you can take out and put on our wall, it’s an extra decoration and something free for the buyer to have.

Because of the genre the colours I would expect to see would be mainly dark, however there are some hints of colour and because of the hard hitting pop punk genre, I would see a lot of random bright colours shining through. I have noticed a lot that my genre differs from most as where you would see the artist on the covers, you wouldn’t even see the artist in any of my digipaks, not even in the booklet. They mainly consist of art work, or random pictures taken of scenery.

I have an Idea which would be unique to the whole digipak idea, however it will still incorporate the codes and convections of them. Because of my genre I am able to play around with it a lot and come up with bold ideas.

Looking at existing ones, they are usually plain and the name of the band is small and not the main focus but the picture is.

I have also noticed that a lot of pop punk bands release cassette and vinyl's more than CD’s.
