Headline

Usually a code of double page spreads is stretching the headline across both of the pages, however none of these magazines have done this, instead they’ve just kept the title to one page which gives them more room to put a photo of the artist on the other page. All the headlines’ fonts and colours tie in with the colour scheme of the page which makes the article look more visually appealing and easy to read, the headline has the biggest font size on the page to make it stand out and to make it obvious to the reader that it is the headline. Each image has a little caption beside it, either giving a brief overview of the article like in Kerrang or stating a quote from the artist like Q and Rock Sound have. This is to give a bit of an insight into the article without giving too much information away.

Body

Each magazine has used the code of enlarging the first letter of the article and with Rock Sound and Q, also changing the colour of the font to the main colour on the page. Q have done something a little extra by having the first letter massively enlarged as a background to the article which does fit in with the aesthetic of the magazine, however I think it looks quite messy and makes the article hard to read. Each of these articles have a stand first before the main text. This is to give a general idea to the reader about what the article is about and what subjects it may cover, it gives more information than the headline and photo caption, but not enough to be able to get all the information from the article just from the stand first. Articles usually have the journalists name stated beside the article to show you who wrote it, this is pretty important as everything in the article is wrote purely based upon the authors opinion and people may want to know who wrote it. All magazines have included this along with the date of the article to give it context and relevancy.

Image

Images on double page spreads typically go across both of the pages, this is called bleeding as it ‘bleeds’ over to the other page. This makes the article more visually appealing and makes it look like its one big page instead of two A4 pages. Rock Sound and Kerrang have done this in their articles and have included the body on the page where the image has bled into. The lighting used in the images is all very bright and directed at the artist right in their face to make them stand out more and have the image more focused on their face. The pose and facial expressions creates an attitude which adds to the overall aesthetic of the page, for example Liam Gallagher is facing away from the camera which sets a kind of ‘not bothered’ attitude and his stance adds to that as he’s stood typically with his legs spread wide and is leaning back on himself which creates a rock star attitude. However, A day to remember and Taylor Momsen are all looking directly into the camera which makes it more personal to the reader as it seems as though the artist is looking directly at you. Colour schemes used in the images also tie in with the colour scheme of the page. Journalists will usually ask artists to dress in a certain way or have them wear certain colours to match the colour scheme. This makes the page better to look at as it all ties in with eachother.
