Analysis 1:Vibe Magazine

The tone used in the text is a informal conversational tone, this allows the reader to feel as if the magazine is almost speaking to them and therefore aimed at them.

I have circled some of the things that reinforce this friendly tone. By using the word ‘Your’ it makes the

magazine personal as it is directed at the reader. Also in the other circle where it says ‘we dare you to

disagree’ by in a way mocking the reader it creates a humorous tone and encourages the reader to read as they feel this comfortable vibe that comes with the

magazine.In the rectangle it says ‘who is music’s number one

genius?’ This rhetorical question in a clever way makes the reader question themselves and wonder if

they do know what the answer is and it instantly draws attention to the article in the magazine which

therefore makes them buy a copy and increases sales.

Analysis 2 :XXL Magazine

The tone of this magazine is quite a formal serious tone. There isn’t much detailed text in the columns unlike Vibe magazine, XXL tends to just state the artist features and

some key articles.The circled rhetorical question like the one in Vibe

magazine makes you question and try and answer the question and when you cant you have an urge to look through it adding and interest to the reader. The quote

from the feature article attracts the readers attention but also gives a humorous effect.
