“NME” Music Magazine Analysis

• The target audience for NME is teenagers, both male and female, we know this because there are always male and female musicians on the front cover.

• The main readers of this magazine will be the teenagers because it largely focuses on today’s music. However, NME won’t appeal to all teenagers, only the ones that like music.

• The main image on the front cover is usually very famous singers or the new-comers. Especially those that has been in the press a lot as being well known which is what teenagers like the most and are fascinated about it.

• NME has a simple colour scheme. It uses colours such as red, blacks and white. In this magazine they have used a light blue background and pink and white fonts so that the text and the pictures don’t blend in with it and they stand out more.

“NME” Front cover Analysis

•The Masthead : Is the logo of the magazine “NME”which is short, bold and positioned in the left corner which makes it more noticeable to the reader and easy to recognize to people who want to buy this particular magazine.

•Main Image : is a young female singer, she is the lead singer of the band. She is standing at the front of the band and almost covers 70% of the front cover in order to grab teenage male’s attention because of her looks. Also to grab young girls attention to look like her.

•The band are dressed all in black. This shows the band in a more elegant and glamorous look

•Cover lines : are mainly positioned in the left side to catch the buyers attention. The white and red writing contrast with the black clothing in the picture.

Analysis of content page.• The purpose of a contents page is to give the

reader information about what is inside the magazine and where to find it. It needs to be simple and easy to read.

• “NME” uses its logo or the masthead on the contents page in order to raise publicity of this magazine to encourage the reader to recognise their Logo “NME”.

• The big picture of Frank Carter which shows its importance .

•This magazine has a “Band Index” which allows the buyer to look for specific bands they want to read about. This allows readers to know if they would be interested in the included bands.

• This content page also has an advert of the NME magazine they are offering on subscriptions to the magazine to promote their future sales.

Double Page of NME Magazine.

The writing in the article is quite small which may be hard to read for older readers and people with bad vision.

NME has used their logo “NME” in the corner next to the page number to promote their magazine.

This is the double page of NME magazine, one main image is used of a music band on this article.

There is a small article placed in a text box in the corner of the picture.

The picture has white blue and black colour with the band dressed in black white and blue.

The lead singer standing at the front of the band is used so that the reader automatically notices the band because in music videos and CD covers, the lead singer is the most recognisable thing from the band.

The simple bold headings give a professional look to the double page spread.
