The opening scene the story was set in area with no people just hills and mountains which symbolizes that it’s a psychological thriller because the location that it’s set in it’s a quite area which represents dullness.

How many principle characters?

One principle character is included which is the child (Danny) he is our main focus this is because he has unusual visions to the hotel and was suspicious about the Danny shows up injured and visibly shocked causing Wendy to think that Jack has been abusing Danny.

How is the story told? Chronologically or does it switch between present ad past? What is the effect?

The effect shows the fact that Danny has visions that cause him to feel scared and isolated. His facial expression is shocked and his mother Wendy believed that his father was abusing him. This highlights that this is a psychological thriller this is because of his visions of seeing the tragic past situated in the hotel.
