ANALYSIS OF PAST PERFORMANCE

2008- 2011

THEORY TO ACTION, POLICY TO PRACTICE

1

Get impact on Matric Results

• Matric results are clear indicators of systemic issues arising out of 12 years of schooling

• Many ignore the enormous impact that the GET Band (Grades R to 9) has on Grade 12 learner performance

• At a Foundation Phase level, the key indicators are the level of literacy and numeracy competence of learners at the end of each Grade from R to 3

2

Get impact on Matric Results … cont

• A poor base then hinders learners from grasping the

core subject content, knowledge and skills in the intermediate phase (Grades 4 to 6) and senior phase (Grades 7 to 9)

• In many instances, our learners exit Grade 9 and enter the Further Education and Training (FET) Band in Grade 10 without a grasp of basic concepts and Knowledge. Learners are therefore ill-equipped to handle the subject-specialised content in Grades 11 and 12

3

Get impact on Matric Results…cont

• National & provincial performance of learners in the 2011

& 2012 Annual National Assessments (ANA) in GET Band clearly indicates the outcomes those learners can anticipate on reaching Grade 12. Hence, it is crucial that any strategy for Learner Attainment that is adopted in ECP, must straddle both the GET & FET bands, with an emphasis on the 3 early phases of schooling

• NB: Then provide examples of 2012 ANA performance in

ECP as indicators of future Grade 12 performance
