Analytics – Trend Overview

3

Drivers Growth in Big Data…both structured and unstructured Business Leaders know the data exists, but need tools to

draw insights out of the data Continued advances in analytics algorithms & modeling Advances in open source platforms such as Apache Hadoop

& Linux

Challenges Analytic tools tend to be too complex, requiring skilled

resources. Embedding analytics into an existing business apps

infrastructure Generating insights out of complex metadata is not easy Security, performance, scalability Predictive models need to translate to action, rather than

simply being an intellectual exercise

Implications The ability to pull value from data can lead to competitive

differentiation New processes, skills/training, and business leadership is

required Needed: Better dashboard tools, designed for business users

and available on mobile devices

Key Insights

“Analytics will take center stage as the volume of data generated by embedded systems increases and vast pools of structured and unstructured data inside and outside the enterprise are analyzed.” Gartner

Ten trends to watch in Analytics Solutions during 2016

1. Organizations become more data-driven, spurring analytics solution demand. Enterprises worldwide increasingly adopt analytics solutions to reduce costs and fuel business outcomes.

2. Improved back- and front-office solutions. Customers value solutions that improve performance and operational efficiency, reduce risk and assist with compliance processes.

3. IT and LOB participate in both buying decisions and deployments. Vendors must be sensitive to internal dynamics when delivering forward-thinking advice and technical expertise.

4. Demand for prepackaged solutions. Increased influence of line-of-business (LOB) buyers in IT purchase decisions drives demand for prepackaged and self-service analytics solutions

5. Traditional vendors focus on filling solution gaps. Alliances, acquisitions and R&D used to meet growing demand for industry- and domain-specific solutions, cloud delivery and integration of multiple data sources.

4

“By 2020, 50% of all business analytics software will incorporate prescriptive analytics built on cognitive computing functionality.” IDC: IDC FutureScape: Worldwide Big Data and Analytics 2016 Predictions

“By 2018, more than half of large organizations globally will compete using advanced analytics and proprietary algorithms, causing the disruption of entire industries.” Gartner

Ten trends to watch in Analytics Solutions during 2016 (continued)

6. Emerging markets offer long-term growth opportunity. Interest in improving global competitiveness and technical skills will propel growth in developing AP and MEA markets.

7. Mobile and Cloud Analytics. The mobile and cloud delivery model continues to impact the market for analytics solutions. Increased cloud and mobile adoption spurs demand for new and innovative analytic solutions.

8. Data Economy Drives Analytics. Interest in incorporating third-party data sources into big data and analytics solutions is growing. The ability to use data from external sources such as social media, weather services and public records to add context to business decisions appeals to new buyers of big data and analytics solutions.

9. IoT drives analytics demand. Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly emerging as a business value driver. As data from IoT networks increases, business leaders will want analytics solutions that can turn that data into insights.

10. Increased Demand for Consulting Services. New technologies create demands for new skills, processes and assistance in selecting analytic solutions. Customers look to consultants for assistance to determine the best analytics solution for their business needs and identify opportunities to innovate new products and services using big data.

Market Trends

“In 2016, the energy around data-driven investments will continue to elevate the importance of data and create incremental improvement in business performance.” Forrester

“Analytics are essential to the success of IoT systems. They are arguably the main point of the IoT as they support the decision-making process in operations that are created in business transformation and digital business programs.” Gartner

Analytic solutions market trends to watch within selected vertical industries

Market Trends

• Financial Services: Operational efficiency is a key pain point driving adoption of big data and analytics solutions in the financial services industry.

• Healthcare: The achievement of better health outcomes increasingly influences analytics purchase decisions among healthcare organizations. Security, regulatory and data management concerns and analytics skill shortages drive demand for professional services to guide and manage deployments.

• Consumer Goods: Adoption priorities for consumer goods organizations will move beyond improving customer engagement, which many early big data solutions addressed, to gaining or maintaining a competitive edge.

• Industrials: Industrial organizations use analytics to optimize processes such as manufacturing, quality assurance and supply chain. Operational efficiency will remain a key purchase driver in 2016 but improving customer engagement and innovation will increasingly influence buying decisions.

• Energy: Key investment priorities for energy organizations include self-service analytics, faster decision making and aggregating data from multiple sources. Demand will grow for solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of field technicians.

Big data and analytics create complex security, data management and organizational change issues

Security concerns limit adoption of third-party-hosted solutions. Third-party-hosted solutions lag in deployment compared to on-premises analytics solutions, with data security and privacy concerns often cited as key determinants for the choice of an on-premises solution.

Enterprises struggle with the efficient organization, management and processing of data and data sources. Data integration, cleansing, management, storage and access are key challenges. IoT data collection systems will amplify data volume and complexity.

The success of a big data program depends on executive involvement in setting the strategy and expected business outcomes. Executive sponsorship, having a clear strategy and alignment on financial objectives are important factors of analytic solution success.
