What do we use IES VE for?
Integrated Environmental Solutions – Virtual Environment (IES-VE)
• Building load calculations
• Annual parametric energy analysis
• LEED energy modeling
• Double wall studies
• Solar shading analysis
• Airflow analysis within and around buildings
• Computational fluid dynamics
Analyzing Double Skin Façade for Different Global Climate Regions
Objective:
Comparison of Double Skin Façade (DSF) with Non-DSF for Chicago, Toronto, Las Vegas, London, Cairo, Abu Dhabi, & Shanghai
Metrics:
•Solar gain
• Sensible load
• Process energy
• Surface temperature
• Annual energy consumption
• Carbon emission
• Comfort Index
Analyzing Double Skin Façade for Different Global Climate Regions
Building description
Floor area:
• DSF model – 11,400 square feet per floor
• Non-DSF model – 11,000 square feet per floor
• Cavity width – 1 feet
• Mechanically ventilated façade system
Fully glazed:
• Exterior skin – Double pane
• Interior skin – Single pane monolithic
Mechanical System: As per ASHRAE 90.1-2007
• Variable air volume with reheat
• Water cooled chiller & natural gas fired hot water boiler
Analyzing Double Skin Façade for Different Global Climate Regions
Modeling process:
• Create 3-Dimensional geometry
• Assign operation schedule, operating set points to spaces
• Assign material properties to envelope
• Assign template mechanical systems or create your own HVAC network
• Run full year simulation
• View multiple simulation outputs with weather variables
• View animations
