ANAM Prizewinners in the Salon showcases performances by Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) 2017 award recipients.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS Awarded Outstanding Program in a Solo Recital and ANAM Volunteer’s Prize, Eliza Shephard (flute) is a graduate of the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Music with Honours (First Class) in Flute Performance. In 2015 Eliza was the only Australian accepted to participate in an exclusive studio studying with Robert Dick in New York. In 2017 she was accepted into the ANAM/Griffith University Master of Music degree. Eliza was awarded second place in the Open Competition at the Australian Flute Festival, and second place at Melbourne Youth Orchestra’s Virtuosity competition, as well as second in the Musical Society of Victoria’s Hephzibah Menuhin competition.

Awarded Outstanding Performance of an Australian Work in a Recital, Tiffany Cheng (violin) has studied violin and piano from an early age. In 2007 and 2008, she was awarded her AMusA in both piano and violin respectively. She completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with First Class Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2014 and then studied at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under Sophie Rowell. In 2016, Tiffany was awarded the Most Promising String Player in the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition. She was also a finalist in the Kendall National Violin Competition in 2014 and 2015, where she won the Best Interpretation of an Australian Composition prize and the Best Sonata prize, respectively.

Awarded Outstanding Performance of a Mozart Piano Work, Berta Brozgul (piano) was also a recipient of numerous awards while at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. She completed both her undergraduate and masters degrees in Piano Performance at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with highest honours before returning to Australia to study with Timothy Young at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). Berta was a prizewinner in the Australian National Piano Award in 2014, and a major prizewinner in the Lev Vlassenko Piano competition in 2015. She has also recorded a CD entitled Liederabend, which is taken from a live performance with the tenor Christopher Saunders in 2009.
