NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

The titles of books and periodicals should be written in italics (in typing, under-lined), the titles of articles in periodicals in Roman letters between quotation marks.

REFERENCES : The volume and date of a periodical and the publication dateof a book should both be cited in the first reference to it. The number of a volumein a series should be written in capital Roman numerals.

TRANSCRIPTION : Modern Turkish place and personal names should alwaysbe written in the current Turkish orthography. In typing, the dotless : should berepresented by / in the body of a word.

GREEK NAMES which have become established in English usage should be givenin the familiar English form (e.g., Ptolemy). Greek proper names which haverecognized Latin transliterations should be given in the latter form (e.g. Bceotia,not Boiotia). Otherwise the Greek form should be used in referring to the Greekperiod of occupation of places which were later Romanized (e.g. Taras ; laterTarentum).
