Courier•Pak™ Specimen ContainersAt Source Medical we are always looking for ways to either make your job as a laboratory professional easier or to save you and your lab money. With the release of the newest addition to our line of pathology products, we’ve done both. Our Courier•Pak™ Specimen Containers allow you to purchase in bulk while eliminating many hassles associated with supplying clients. Enclosed in each case are eight individual Courier•Pak™ boxes, a convenient distribution package ranging from 16 to 32 bottles, depending on the size. This allows you to supply larger clients with a full case or smaller ones with a single box. No longer will bottles have to be counted and sent in plastic bags, minimizing labor and leakage. Clients will enjoy a perforated tear away area on the back to easily access bottles. Also located on the back is an area for origin and destination info for your couriers. All of our high quality products currently prefi lled are available in Courier•Pak™ Specimen Containers.

Custom LabelingInnovation does not stop with the unique packaging of our Courier•Pak™ Specimen Containers. In addition, you have the option of a custom label, tailored specifi cally for your lab. Just say the word and we will develop a full color, professionally printed label which will be affi xed to every bottle. Each label will include your company logo and contact info in any color scheme and layout you desire. When something more is needed, take the customization process to another level and add sequential numbering or barcoding. This next step in quality control and patient tracking minimizes the chances of unspecifi ed or lost specimens, incorrect diagnosis, and aids in the standardization process many labs are moving toward. Prostate KitsProstate Kits are the customized biopsy kits that make it easier to organize and transport multiple tissue specimens from a biopsy. Prostate Kits are available in quantities of 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 bottles per kit, depending on the physician’s preference. Each container comes prefi lled with either 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin or our specialty fi xative PBF™ and packaged in a convenient transport package. Each Prostate Kit comes with site specifi c labels and a location diagram to keep specimens organized. The Corlection™ ProstateBiopsy Collection SystemThe Corlection™ Prostate Biopsy Collection System is especially designed for collection, transport and storage of prostate biopsies. Each kit includes 12 micro biopsy cassettes (M507) to be placed in a tamper evident 120ml container with screw cap. Two sets of 6 cassettes are supplied. The white ones are identifi ed for biopsies from the left zone of the prostate. The yellow ones are identifi ed for biopsies from the right zone. The container is half fi lled with 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin as a fi xative. All containers are 95 kPa compliant and are stackable.

Simply add the 2 easy to open pouches to the appropriate amount of water, mix, and in less than 10 minutes a working solution of 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin is prepared. The fi nal solution has an automatic pH of 6.9-7.2 and is osmotically balanced, even when using tap water. If you’re tired of outrageous shipping charges associated with bulk formalin, the virtual weightlessness of Powdered•Formalin™ can cut shipping costs by over half. If you’re short on storage space, like many labs, using Powdered•Formalin™ can allow you to keep 100 gallons in a single drawer. B•Plus Fix™ balances the need for high quality results with the preference of using environmentally safe products. B•Plus Fix™ provides fi xation that results in cytologic characteristics comparable to those produced by B5 and other mercury containing fi xatives. With B•Plus Fix™ you can eliminate the hazards of mercury while still achieving the results you need. This is an environmentally attractive bone marrow fi xative that produces histology comparable to those using mercury additives. It is also well suited for fi xation of lymphoid tissues to be studied immunochemically.

GI•Fix™BBC Biochemical’s GI•Fix™ is a fi xative specifi cally designed for use on gastrointestinal and liver tissues. Following fi xation, gastrointestinal epithelial cells show prominent nuclear membranes, distinct heterochromatin and euchromatin, and crisp nucleoli. GI•Fix™ penetrates these tissues rapidly, fi xing them quickly without the use of mercury, picric acid, or alcohol. In addition to rapid fi xation, GI•Fix™ produces precise nuclear and cytoplasmic detail while preventing cracking and chattering of tissue sections. With GI•Fix™, all routine, immunohistochemical, and special stain procedures perform similar to that of 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin. GI•Fix™ produces high quality results on tissues containing large amounts of mucin, infl ammatory cells, and cytoplasmic RNA while eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals.

SFS™ Formalin SubstituteSFS™ is a general purpose fi xative designed to replace formaldehyde based fi xatives in the histology laboratory. This fi xative produces histologic results similar to 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin and is buff ered to produce optimum staining with hematoxylin and eosin. The rates of penetration and fi xation of SFS™ are very similar to that of 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin, making changes in procedure unnecessary. Staining times for H&E are similar to those used following fi xation with 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin. In some geographic areas it can be disposed of by pouring down the drain, but consult with your local wastewater authority before doing so. With SFS™ excellent histological and immunohistochemical results can be achieved without the use of formaldehyde.

PBF™ FixativePBF™ is a fi xative especially formulated for small biopsy specimens. It fi xes tissues with the histological advantages of a pigment derived from eosin. This pigment will help identify the specimen throughout the grossing, processing, embedding and cutting process. With PBF™ you can eliminate the need for dying the alcohol, or other stations within the processor. Upon the staining process, the pigment will wash out of the tissues section, eliminating the need to adjust your staining procedure. All special stains are compatible with this fi xative, and immunological reactivity is preserved as well as tissue fi xed in standard 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin.

Trump’s FixativeTrump’s Fixative is an excellent fi xative for tissues to be examined by electron microscopy. Cytoplasmic organelles are well fi xed and distinct. Other subcellular components are visualized easily and with precision.

Immuno•Chem Fix™ & Immuno•Chem Wash™Immuno•Chem Fix™ and Immuno•Chem Wash™ are formulated for the fi xation and transport of tissue specimens to be examined by immunofl uorescent or immunohistochemical antibody techniques. These reagents are designed to fi x tissues to be transported and later studied for tissue-bound immunoglobulins, disposition of immune complexes and for labile and sensitive tissue epitopes. The sensitivity of detection of immune deposits following the use of these reagents approaches that found with immunofl uorescent techniques used on freshly frozen tissues. Selected labile epitopes destroyed by traditional fi xatives, such as formalin, are also preserved for detection by immunofl uorescence or immunohistochemistry. Immuno•Chem Wash™ can be used as a buff er solution/wash prior to processing with Immuno•Chem Fix™, Michel’s Solution, or Trump’s Fixative.

Michel’s SolutionMichel’s Solution is an excellent transport medium that preserves antigenicity of pathologically deposited immune reactants. Michel’s Solution is primarily used for the transport of kidney and skin tissues for immunofl uorescence studies. Use Immuno•Chem Wash™ as a buff er solution prior to processing.

10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin is a non-coagulative additive fi xative. It is the standard fi xative used in most laboratories, and it produces the set of histologic artifacts that pathologists are trained to interpret professionally. 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin penetrates quickly, but fi xes slowly. When used as a primary fi xative and followed by secondary fi xation by alcohol, it produces a marvelous set of consistent histologic artifacts and results. Our formulation is enhanced by buff ering capacity that optimizes histologic results by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry.

10% NBF 4:1 Concentrate10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin 4:1 Concentrate is formulated to mix with water to produce 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin. One gallon of concentrate is mixed with four gallons of water to make fi ve gallons of 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin. 10% Alcoholic Formalin (Buff ered)Source Medical off ers 10% Alcoholic Formalin with an improved formulation. This fi xative has the correct concentration of alcohol to promote rapid penetration and coagulant fi xation without lysis of erythrocytes. It is also buff ered at a neutral pH, approximately 6.8-7.2. The alcohol promotes fi xation of specimens diffi cult to fi x, such as those with abundant adipose tissue. This product is also ideal to provide rapid fi xation in the fi rst fi xative stations on tissue processors.

10% Alcoholic Formalin 3:1 ConcentrateOur 10% Alcoholic Formalin 3:1 Concentrate can be diluted easily to be a working solution of 10% Alcoholic Formalin. 10% Alcoholic Formalin is designed to rapidly fi x tissues that are hard to fi x, such as fatty tissues, breast and colon. It also functions well as a primary fi xative to fi x tissues received late in the day and that must be processed quickly overnight. It can also be used on the tissue processor as a secondary fi xative in the fi rst station or after the initial fi xative station(s).

10% Zinc Formalin 4:1 Concentrate10% Zinc Formalin 4:1 Concentrate is formulated to function as an ideal fi xative for light microscopy. In addition, it preserves the immunoreactivity of tissue antigens better than 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin alone. This concentrate is buff ered to improve the staining qualities of tissue sections. Zinc Formalin Concentrate is diluted 1:4 with water to produce a working solution of buff ered 10% Zinc Formalin. All fi xation, processing and staining times remain the same.

Hollande’s FixativeHollande’s Fixative is designed to be used with tissues that contain large amounts of mucin and infl ammatory cells, such as bowel and other gastrointestinal biopsies.

Bouin’s SolutionBouin’s Solution is a fi xative often used to enhance nuclear fi xation. It can also perform as a mordant to enhance staining. Bouin’s Solution is particularly useful for fi xation of tissues, such as testis, in which chromosomes in mitosis or meiosis are to be observed.

RTF™RTF™ is a fast-acting, specially buff ered, formaldehyde based fi xative designed specifi cally to be used at the grossing (cutting) station. It fi xes fatty tissues more rapidly than 10% Neutral Buff ered Formalin, yet is safe enough for use on all tissue specimens. RTF™ is compatible with all other primary fi xatives and does not interfere with any special stain or immunohistochemical procedures. When used routinely, RTF™ will improve overall fi xation, dehydration, clearing and wax infi ltration. It can also be used to prefi x fresh surgical specimens to promote ease of cutting tissue blocks for cassettes.

Locate™Locate™ is an alcoholic fi xative with enhancing additives to render tissues with high DNA content white or a lighter color than the surrounding tissues. Locate™ rapidly fi xes adipose tissue and connective tissues. These connective tissues may contain lymph nodes, which in the unfi xed state may be diffi cult to identify. Locate™ causes lymph nodes to appear white against a darker background of connective tissues and adipose tissues allowing these specimens to be grossed effi ciently and accurately.

RTF-A™RTF-A™ is a rapid fi xative that functions as a formalin-based fi xative and a dehydrant. It is formulated to be used as a primary or secondary fi xative. It can be used as a primary fi xative for tissues that are grossed late in the day, for tissues that are diffi cult to fi x, or for tissues that contain large amounts of fat. It is also advantageous to use RTF-A™ as a secondary fi xative in the third station on the tissue processor. Alternatively, it can be used in the fi rst station on the processor to complete fi xation and initiate dehydration.

Bony tissues 2-3mm thick will decalcify in 8-12 hours. This decalcifying solution is compatible with all fi xatives, immunochemical and special stains.

Standard•Cal™ ImmunoStandard•Cal™ Immuno is a solution formulated to decalcify bone and best retain antigenicity for immunochemical studies. Standard•Cal™ Immuno is extremely gentle, preserving cytologic integrity and stainability by H&E better than with any other acid decalcifi er. 11-gauge bone marrow biopsies require 5-20 hours for complete decalcifi cation.

Source•Cal™ 2Source•Cal™ 2 is a product formulated to decalcify bone rapidly, yet perform gently enough to be used as a routine decalcifying solution for bone marrow biopsies. The usual biopsy obtained from an 11-gauge needle requires about 45-60 minutes to decalcify. Biopsies from a larger 8-gauge needle require approximately 60-90 minutes. Source•Cal™ 2 is compatible with all fi xatives, stains, and reagents.

Source•Cal™ ImmunoSource•Cal™ Immuno is a rapid decalcifi er designed to preserve immunogenicity at a maximum while accomplishing rapid decalcifi cation. It is designed specifi cally for bone marrow biopsies and small diagnostic portions of bone, although it can also be used eff ectively on large fragments of bone.

Source•Cal™ EDTASource•Cal™ EDTA is a decalcifying solution formulated to decalcify bone and retain antigenicity for immunochemical studies. Source•Cal™ EDTA is exceptionally gentle and preserves epitopes for immunoperoxidase or histochemical studies. Additionally, the cytologic integrity and stainability by H&E are better maintained by this decalcifying solution than with any other class of decalcifi er. Decalcifi cation of 11-gauge bone marrow biopsies requires 5-20 hours. This is the decalcifi er to use for the best preservation of cytologic features for histochemical and immunochemical studies.

Source•Cal™ 1Source•Cal™ 1 is an acid decalcifi er and rapid fi xative. It is designed to be used on fresh or fi xed tissues and preserves them with a minimum of lysis erythrocytes and sub cellular granules. It performs best on small tissues that can be decalcifi ed within several hours.

This wax produces wrinkle free sections even with diffi cult to cut and brittle tissues. All this together with a low melting temperature of 52° to 54° C makes this a proper choice for regular use.Poly-Plast 568™ (9209336) is for use with tissues that produce infi ltration diffi culties and large tissue sections. This is a specially designed formula that includes unique polymers to allow tissue infi ltration 33% faster, while also producing excellent distortion free sections.Poly-Plast Excel™ (9209337) was specifi cally designed for ease of use, perfect ribbons and superior infi ltration. With a very low melting temperature of 50° to 52° C this wax is perfect for temperature sensitive and quality critical tissues. Jars can be loosely joined to each other laterally, therefore making sure they are kept in the same order when moved around on the lab counter. Available in 5 diff erent colors. Bo•Mar Aspirate Fix™Bo•Mar Aspirate Fix™ is formulated to provide the ideal fi xation of primitive and maturing hematopoietic cells to be stained with Romanowsky type stains. Air-dried bone marrow aspirate smears and peripheral blood smears fi xed with Bo•Mar Aspirate Fix™ show excellent nuclear and cytoplasmic staining. Nuclear chromatin, heterochromatin and nucleoli display clear cytologic characteristics of diff erentiation. Nucleoli are bright and precise and cytoplasmic granules are well preserved and distinct, especially that of mast cells and basophils. Azurephilic granules of the granulocytic series are distinct and brilliant as well.

Bo•Mar AntiCoag™Bo•Mar AntiCoag™ is intended to anticoagulate fresh bone marrow aspirates immediately upon obtaining the specimen from the patient. Bo•Mar AntiCoag™ is non sterile and should be used invitro in the vessel (test tube or watch glass) into which the spicules are placed from the sterile aspiration syringe. Bo•Mar AntiCoag™ is not to be used in the aspiration syringe. When used promptly and properly, Bo•Mar AntiCoag™ prevents fi brin strands from forming. Such fi brin strands prevent the preparation of proper smears by trapping cellular elements of the marrow. The concentration of the anticoagulant must be formulated to anticoagulate aggressively and simultaneously to prevent lysis of erythrocytes and nucleated cells. Because slight variations of osmotic pressure will cause lysis of these delicate cells, it is critical to choose the properly formulated anticoagulant. DNA liberated from lysed nucleated cells interfere with the preparation of proper smears. The liberated DNA is sticky and behaves similar to a spider web trapping cellular elements and fi brin strands in its vicinity. Sticky DNA inhibits smear preparation similar to that of fi brin strands. Once the bone marrow aspirate is anticoagulated adequately, numerous smears can be made by the double glass slide method or by the coverglass technique. These specifi c results can be achieved when using our Bo•Mar AntiCoag™.

III•Diff ™ Stain KitSource Medical’s III•Diff ™ Stain Kit is a superb, versatile and rapid Romanowsky stain for a variety of cell preparations. Foremost, it is designed for air-dried peripheral blood smears. Leukocytes show excellent nuclear and cytoplasmic staining. Blasts display distinct nuclear detail with pale blue nucleoli. Immature granulocytes show bright azureophilic granules and erythrocytes are orange-red. This stain kit is also useful for tissue imprints and cytospin preparations. Neoplastic cells generally show dark purple nucleochromatin with light blue nucleoli.

Bone Marrow Stain KitBone Marrow Stain Kit stains bone marrow aspirate smears to show beautiful nuclear and cytoplasmic staining. This stain kit produces the optimum of Romanowsky staining for bone marrow aspirate smears. Nuclear chromatin and heterochromatin show distinct staining with nuclear maturation. Nucleoli are usually pale blue and easily visible. Primitive precursor cells of granulocytic and erythrocytic series show precisely stained chromatin. Cytoplasmic granules, particularly azurephilic granules of the granulocytic series, are brilliantly stained. The cytoplasm of the erythrocytic cells show colorful progression from basophilia of early precursors to orangeophilia of maturing normoblasts. Cytoplasmic granules of basophils and mast cells are deep purple. This bone marrow stain sequence is prepackaged for easy turn-key use and can also be used on air dried lymph node imprints.

Rapid•Stain Kit™Rapid•Stain Kit™ for hematology is a fast acting stain that is used in the histology and hematology laboratories. Rapid•Stain Kit™ quickly stains peripheral blood smears with the traditional colors and results expected from Romanowsky type dyes. Additionally, Rapid•Stain Kit™ works well on all air-dried smear preparations where a Wright’s Stain is traditionally used. Rovers Spatula®The Rovers Spatula® has a curved head similar in design to the widely used Ayre spatula, allowing easy scraping and removing of cellular material from the surface of the cervix or vagina. This results in precise nuclear fi xation of columnar and squamous cells, and produces crisp, distinct nuclear membranes and nucleochromatin patterns. EA-50 or EA-65 counterstains give bright and clear staining.

Saccomanno’s FixativeSaccomanno’s Fixative is prepared particularly for collection and fi xation of sputum specimens. Our modifi cation of the fi xative combines the coagulant fi xative qualities of alcohol with other fi xation enhancements to produce better fi xation of nucleoplasm, nucleoli and cytoplasm. Erythrocytes are lysed and do not obscure the nucleated cells of interest. Traditional cytology stains produce distinct nuclear and cytoplasmic membranes, and nucleoli are distinct and crisp.

Acid Wash for CytologyAcid Wash for Cytology solution is specially formulated to use with regressive hematoxylin staining in cytology. This particular formulation precisely diff erentiates hematoxylin regressively and produces crisply stained nuclei. Nuclear membranes and heterochromatin are distinct, and parachromatin is cleared correctly. Nucleoli are crisp and retain appropriate eosinophilia. It is particularly appropriate for regressive hematoxylin staining of gynecologic smears from the uterine cervix.

Set•Stain™ for CytologySet•Stain™ for Cytology is a dehydrating agent designed specifi cally for cytology staining. It promotes optimum diff erentiation of EA stains while producing rapid and complete dehydration. When used as directed, it produces ideal diff erentiation of the Orange- G, Light and Fast Greens, and Eosin Y in the cytology counterstains.

Lithium Carbonate for CytologyLithium Carbonate for Cytology is formulated to be used as a bluing reagent in the cytology laboratory. This particular concentration of reagents provides optimum bluing of hematoxylin for cytologic specimens and can be used with progressive or regressive hematoxylin techniques. Cell nuclei display distinct nuclear membranes and parachromatin clearing, nucleoli and heterochromatin are precisely stained and crisp. Slide FoldersThe SlideFolder™ will hold up to twenty standard microscope slides 75 mm x 25 mm (3 x 1 in.) and is made of two parts: a base holding the slides horizontally off ering numbered spaces for easy identifi cation, and transparent doors which can either cover the slides or be swung behind the SlideFolder™ for space saving purposes. Each slide location is identifi ed with a number from 1 to 20. Removal of slides is made easy simply by pressing on one end. The two transparent hinged covers off er a full view of each slide without having to remove it from its position in the SlideFolder™ and allows easy reading of ID labels with or without an optical bar code reader. All units are stackable and take minimum space on laboratory tables or shelves. Will resist temperatures between -80 °C and +80 °C. Not autoclavable. SlideTray™The SlideTray™ is a convenient microscope slide holder made of heavy-duty plastic lasting many years even under the most adverse conditions. The SlideTray™ will hold up to 20 microscope slides in an almost horizontal position. Each slide can be easily removed and placed back in its position. The SlideTray™ is easily stackable and will take minimum space on any shelf or laboratory counter. Even when trays are stacked, slides are well protected and will not touch the tray above. Dimensions: 206 x 299 x 18 mm H (8 1/8 x 11 3/4 x 11/16 in. H)

Slide DrainRack™Made of high impact polystyrene. This rugged tray used as a drain rack can hold up to 200 microscope slides in 100 individual numbered slots. All slides are stored upright for easier insertion and removal. Simply tilt them forward and backward with one fi nger to easily and rapidly pick up the slide you need. A unique feature with the DrainRack™ is to be able to read bar codes without having to remove the slides from the box. For space saving purposes, you can double the amount of slides simply by storing 2 slides per slot, giving you a capacity of 200 slides instead of 100. Not autoclavable.
