On the next slide, we are going to complete a radial analysis for our final film magazine that we have been working towards for a large amount of time. We are going to talk about each section in great deal of detail explaining our reasons for choosing what we did.

Page 3: Anaylsis final!

Colour Scheme: We decided to keep consistency throughout using the colours of white, black and red. This was also very effective as it matched the colour scheme for the main film being advertised. We like the use of black as it is a prominent colour that works well with the image. We feel it gives the idea of evil. We have also chosen red as it is bold and stands out. The connotation red is danger and blood and that is ideal as it represents our film.

Fonts: We have used a large bold font for the magazine title as it should be the first thing an audience notice. ‘The Followers’ font has been used in the trailer and on the film poster therefore we have used it on the magazine to show consistency throughout. We have also used capitals letter for text as this shows the importance of each section. As designers we was looking for a font that was easily accessible yet achieved our desired look. We decided to use ‘Trajan Pro’ this distinctive font was default on both PC and Mac. By altering the tracking, kerning, size and colour of this font we were able to get thrilling looking title.

.

Images: We took several different pictures, however we felt this was most effective and worked well with the layout. We edited the pictures using Adobe Photoshop to create a thriller look, to achieve this we concentrated on the eye of our actress by completing colour correction and using the default burn and smudge tools to create the darkness around the eye. At the bottom we created a row of images which we made look like a film strip. The reasons for this are that the pictures at the bottom are reflecting the information written.

Layout: We have worked with several different layouts whilst finding that this was effective and similar to real life film magazine. We have chosen to base this on film magazine such as empire however, we have added several different aspects making it our own. One of our favourite aspects that we feel works well is the film strip we have created at the bottom. This is successful as it different yet the images relate to the information therefore we feel this portrays the information in another way more visually.

Information: After a group discussion and talking to a large audience we decided that the information we used will be current information in today's film industry. We felt that this was more interesting, new and fresh for our target mass audience.

Stereotypical features: After completing research regarding magazines, we realised as a group the several stereotypical features that made up a magazine. We took this general knowledge and better understanding of magazine codes and conventions into consideration when creating our final magazine cover. To follow these conventions we included price, barcode and date.

As a group we have now completed our final film poster after several changes and hard work. On this analysis slide we are going to write about our reasons for choices we had made and what we had done to

achieve the final project.

Page 5: Anaylsis final!

Fonts:To begin with we looked at several fonts for the actors names, however after trying many we felt that they did not suit the poster. We then added a simple font feeling that it worked better making it easier to read.

Mise-en-scene:Mise-en-scene is important when framing a photographic of video shot. Costume and make-up is a key part of mise-en-scene therefore we experimented with several different coloured clothes and make-up to try to create a certain effect. After a lot of work, we found the right image which is now shown on our poster.

Logo:We looked at several realistic logos which we then decided to make our own due to wanting to make our product look professional. We found this very challenging, however we have designed these on a logo maker website which we feel worked well with the poster. Our reasons for designing our logos to look like this is that we have based them on real life ones used today.

Information:By adding the cast and crew information at the bottom of our poster helps to show that we have followed codes and conventions as a majority of mainstream films also have there cast and crew information at the bottom of the final poster.

Image:As a group we all took several pictures in different settings creating different looks. However, after a group discussion we felt that this would be the best in helping our product be successful. Although we felt the picture was right for our trailer we felt that editing it would help create an effective look. We used ‘Paintshop Pro’ using a blur took to create this. This is effective as it creates the ‘ghostly’ look that we was aiming for. It also gives the audience an insight into what the film could be about.

Slogan:After looking at existing film posters, we realised how important a slogan can be when attracting an audience. We felt that the slogan ‘Not every surprise is good’ is intriguing making the audience wanting to know what happens. We also feel that this helps set the tone of our film.

Colour:The font and the colours used for the film title “THE FOLLOWERS” is in the same that has been used throughout our trailer, magazine and also on our poster. The reason for this that it shows continuity and professionalism. The colour of the text also represents the film as red connotes danger and blood.

We purposely made the poster black and white by adjusting the saturation on Photoshop. Our reasons for this was that it reflects on the film trailer as a majority of this was shown in black and white. Also another key reason is that it makes the title of the film stand our as it is written in a bold red font.

Finally, we are going to analyse the finished trailer, this will include us writing about our final choices, challenges we overcome and how we

achieved our final piece making it as successful as it is.

Mise-en-scene

Costume and design:

Amy: • Dark clothing to foreshadow the negative and mysterious situation she is in.• Natural make up portray her naturalistically.

Emma: • Dark clothing replicating a school uniform; we did this as it clearly shows the girl is young and vulnerable.• We used dark coloured clothing to connote death with the white shirt underneath to show purity. • We used dark eye make up to accentuate the malevolence of Emma.

Page 10: Anaylsis final!

Editing• At start slow pace cuts that begin to get faster.

• Slow fade ins are also used in the beginning of the trailer and then get faster towards the end.

• Both of these editing techniques have been used to add tension as well make an

easy transition between shots.

• The use of faster editing towards the end is due to the introduction of action and also adds tension.

Sound

Narrative: • Dialogue from film is used within the trailer.

Soundtrack:

• In outset, a high pitched static sound is used. This hints that something is about to happen.

• Orchestral music, mainly violins, is also used in between the high pitched static noise. This has been used to add tension.

• Toward the end of the trailer the music becomes more upbeat and intense.

Overall we are pleased with the final outcome. Although it was challenging we feel we have reached our potential whilst creating our three final products, showing that by looking at real film posters, magazines and trailers it has given an insight into what is needed helping us to achieve a successful one ourselves.
