Notes for BENJAMIN F. HALL:Benjamin F. Hall, a citizen of Greenbay Township since 1859, died Monday, July22, at 8:00 a.m. after a three weeks' illness with carbuncle which at last created apressure on the nerves and brain inducing coma and death. He was sixty six yearsof age and had been an active and prominent citizen of the township until recent years, when his unusualweight combined with rheumatism had forced him to remain inactive. He leaves his wife and two sons anda daughter with many friends made in the course of an honorable and honored life. He belonged to theChristian church and Rev. Dyer of the denomination came from Decatur County and conducted the funeralservices at his home Tuesday at 11 a.m. The funeral was a very large one, friends coming from Leon andother points at a distance to show their respect for the deceased. The burial was in Greenbay Cemeterywhere his father and other relatives are lying. Thus closes the record of another of Clarke County's rugged, worthy pioneers who reaped a good material reward for his labors and now enters into rest." - The OsceolaDemocrat, Thursday, 26 JUL 1900. This same obituary also appears in the Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa,Thursday, August 2, 1900.

In 1860 McLvaine sold the SE1/4 Section 31 Twp. 71 North Range 25 West ofthe 5th P.M. containing 160.53 acres to Benjamin F. Hall for the sum of $900.00. Their trading point atthat time was Leon. In the winter the snow was so deep that the hungry timber wolves would follow theteam and sled to town and back. In 1891, the Des Moines and Kansas City Railroad purchased their rightof way through this section; then it phased out in 1934. In 1930 and 1931, the Great Lakes Pipelinepurchased thrigh right of way through this section. Three pipelines have been laid and talk of another soon. After the death of Benjamin Hall, the farm was transferred in 1916 to Charles E. Hall, a son. He and hiswife, Ida (Elliott) Hall resieded there until his seath in 1952. Charley's pride and joy were the purebredShorthorn cattle and purebred Percheron horses which he raised on the farm. Notes for JOHN WESLEY HALL:Legion Assists In Last Rites of J. W. Hall; Civil War Vet - Three times the guns roared forth in the brightair and the mournful notes of "Taps" echoed from the hillsides as The American Legion's ritual was endedand the last mortal remains of another Civil War Veteran was consigned to the grave Monday afternoon inMaple Hill Cemetery. John W. Hall, form many years one of Clarke County's most influential citizens, hasgone to his rest. Another names has been crossed off the list of those boys of '65; another of those sterlingpioneer citizens has been called. On the fingers on one hand can be counted those old soldiers remaining, and the real pioneers of the county are almost as few. John Hall was for many years recognized as one ofthe leading contractors of public buildings in Iowa. Nearly every one knew that he was the contractor ofthe court house here but few were acquainted with the fact that he was connected with the construction ofevery church in the city and that he built the Glenwood home for the feeble minded children. More thanfifty creameries were built by him in this state. With his parents, Warren and Cynthia Hall, he moved toClarke County from the place of his birth, Whitehall, Indiana in 1860. He was engaged in the carpenterand contracting business there for a time and in the early days of the war enlisted in Co. K of the 7thMissouri Cavalry. In 1868 he was married to Sarah A. Scott. They moved to Osceola where he embarkedon his career as a contractor. Later he served two terms as county treasurer and for twelve years was stateoil inspector. He also engaged in a number of other enterprises in the city. He was a member of theI.O.O.F. and a charter member of the Knights of Pythias. Of recent years he has lived quietly in retirement

Sere she grew to womanhood, a girl of moble character and disposition full of sunshine andgood cheer, and was beloved by all who knew her. She was married Jun 5, 1905, to Dr. Critzmeyer ofAlgona, and there she lived happily until her death. Fearing the the end was near her father and onlysister, Mrs. T. A.
