Opening of Summer School 28 June 2015

• 6p.m. Meet and Greet at Aula Maxima, main university campus with ACE Director: Dr Seamus O’Tuama

• Mrs Fancy Tart is coming to Tea: Making Sense of Family Stories Eileen O’Duill CG will be delivering opening lecture of school.

• Lorna Moloney will be facilitating the meet and greet. Your welcome pack and name badge will be distributed also.

The Quad - Aula Maxima UCC

• The Aula Maxima (Great Hall) is the venue for many formal events - honorary conferrings, concerts, recitals and banquets. The window on the east wall commemorates George Boole (1815-1864), the first Professor of Mathematics at UCC, whose algebra became the foundation of modern computer science. We are celebrating George Boole *200 this year and Lorna Moloney is project genealogist on same, see http://www.georgeboole.com/

• The Aula Maxima is about a 12 minute walk from Victoria Lodge accommodation. A volunteer will walk the delegates to the Aula Maxima, departing at 5.30p.m.

Travel Details to UCC

• Bus connections to/from the airport are provided by Bus Eireann (route 226 to Cork Bus Station).

• A taxi journey to Cork city centre will take 10–20 minutes and will cost about €12–18.

• There are many direct connections to Dublin Airport both from North America and from Europe. There are regular express coach services from Dublin Airport to Cork (operated by Aircoach and GoBe), with a journey time of 3.5 to 4 hours. Hourly intercity train services to and from Dublin Heuston Station take between 2.5 and 3 hours. Travelers returning to the USA through Dublin or Shannon Airport can pre-clear US Customs and Immigration in Ireland, which can considerably simplify their journey home.
