In reflection I think about the amazing growth all of our students have made not only academically but socially, emotionally and physically. Last week at assembly when standing out the front I looked up as all the students were standing for the National Anthem and realised I couldn’t see the parents as they were blocked out by the height of our newly graduated Year 7s. So much has occurred in 12 months!!! Our student successes can be attributed to the learning experiences facilitated by the wonderful teaching staff and our Student Support Officers here at Prospect Primary. Our volunteers too are very much valued for the hours of dedication they give to many of our students. Last Wednesday, we held a volunteers morning tea and sent out over 80 invitations to parents and members of our community who graciously give their time to the school. We are extremely grateful to you all. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Groote, our Governing Council chairperson, GC members and other committee members including our Fund raising committee, Grounds and Healthy Eating working group. The playground Committee expertly led by Mez Nelson and Nicola Veitch were instrumental in the signing off of the tender project for our new playground. With their tenacity we should be enjoying our playground by the start of term 2 2019. We contribute the success of our events and projects this year to your commitment and hard work. This year, Christie Butler and Anita Hall have continued to support me as we take our school to the next level. RESPECT SUCCESS CREATIVITY DATES TO REMEMBER

From the Principal I can’t believe that the year has finished.

Last Wednesday, we held a volunteers morning tea and sent out over 80 invitations to parents and members of our community who

graciously give their time to the school. We are extremely grateful to you all.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Groote, our Governing Council chairperson, GC members and other committee members including our Fund raising committee, Grounds and Healthy Eating working group. With their tenacity we should be enjoying our playground by the start of term 2 2019. We contribute the success of our events and projects this year to your commitment and hard work.

PROSPECT PRIMARY SCHOOL E- NEWSLETTER | Issue 1 2

Whilst the end of year is a time of celebration it is also a time when we sadly need to farewell staff members. The following staff at this stage will not be returning in 2019.

Stephanie Ratnaike: Stephanie will be on leave next year as she transitions into retirement. She came to Prospect Primary school in 2001. During this time she has been a leader in the Early Years, especially renown not just at PPS but within the larger Education Community for her knowledge and skills around Reggio Amelia. With her 36 years of experience in education Steph will be greatly missed.

Isabella Tropiano: Isabella has worked in year 4 this year. After being with us since 2016 Isabella has chosen to take up a new Year 3/ 4 position at Gilles Street Primary School.

Mike La Pietra: Mike has been with us since the beginning of the year working with the Year 6/7 students. He often recounted how much he enjoyed his class and this was very much indicative of his practice in the way that he cared and worked side by side with all his students.

Fiona Hinkley: Fiona has had various roles within our school since 2017.

Louise Antoniadis: Louise has been working in Room 18 on Fridays.

Lia Delgado: Lia has been working in Room 10 while Marilyn Eastwood has been on leave this term.

We wish them the very best for their future and again thank them for their contribution to student learning at PPS.

Although not officially leaving we have two other staff members that won’t be back for the start of the year as they have the opportunity to take on new roles within the Education of Department.

Shelley Braithwaite: Shelley will be working in head office in terms 1 and 2 helping to develop and trial our new Education Management System. This is a fantastic opportunity for Shelley to use her skills around digital learning and communication.

Leah Richards: Leah has been asked to work as a Literacy Coach for the Greenhill South and Central East Portfolios. Her role will be over four sites sharing her wealth of knowledge around literacy. Fortunately, for us Leah will still be on site one day a week continuing on with her wellbeing role.

Next year you will be properly introduced to our new permanent staff members:

Emma Marsland – from Burton PS who will be in one of our foundation classes

Colleeen Decekelaire- from West Beach PS who will be taking a year 2 class

Liana Trangredi – from Mawson Lakes PS will be joining our year 6/7 team

Jenna Longstaff – will also be a joining us for a short time before taking maternity leave.

We are still waiting for some of our contract positions to be finalised

CLASSES

For next year we have 21 classes which has meant major movement of classes and teachers to cater for our expanding numbers. Our staffroom is being converted into a year one unit with two classes moving in today. Another 9 other classes are moving to various new learning areas. As a result we have had to hold off our visit to our 2019 classes until tomorrow to allow students to have a better visual of what their new learning area will look like.

With the placement of 565 students for next year, the process has been difficult but we have worked tirelessly to ensure all students are in the best place for their learning needs. After a lot of thought and consultation, present teachers have approved the placements of all their students for next year.

If you do however feel that your child may be concerned about their 2019 placement please email me at [email protected] by WEDNESDAY 19th DECEMBER. I will not be making any changes until then and by the C.O.B. on that day the final class list will be created. After then there will be no more alterations.

PROSPECT PRIMARY SCHOOL E- NEWSLETTER | Issue 1 3

It is important to also note that as our classes are full therefore the opportunities to move students will be minimal as we cannot ask other students to move out of a class to accommodate your child. Moving one child has a domino effect and what seems like a simple move can then effect the placement of another six students. Movement has been possible previously when students have left during the holidays creating an additional spot. We will not be going over 26 students in Early Years classes or 30 students in the Primary Years.

SYMPATHY

Last week staff were deeply saddened by the news that Dean Clarke had lost his life in a car accident. Dean was the much loved husband of Marg Clarke and Principal of Playford Primary School. Marg is the Principal of our neighbouring school Prospect North PS. She also worked here as the Deputy Principal prior to 2016. Our thoughts continue to be with Marg and her family.

New Sculpture

This week the students were delighted to see the arrival of our sculpture that will take pride and place amongst our 2018 graduating Year 7 mosaics on the corner of Gladstone and Braund Roads.

Gerry McMahon, the parent of Edie (year 7), Polly (year 3) and Tilda (year 1) has been working in consultation with our older students since term 3. The sculpture itself has taken Gerry over a month to construct.

More information will come out in future newsletters when we can unveil the Year 7 legacy corner.

At this point we would like to show our gratitude to Gerry and the students who have created this amazing artwork.

Medication

If your child has medication stored on-site, please come to the Front Office to check the expiry date or pick up if required over

the holidays.

Adelaide Crow’s Football Clinic

On Monday 19th of November, many of our upper primary girls participated in a Football clinic run by the Adelaide Crows. Sarah Perkins (Tex) who was a player in the Crows’ 2017 AFLW Premiership ran the clinics along with Maddison Hurley. The girls were encouraged to handball, kick and mark whilst working together and having fun. The participation of women’s football has increased in the last few years so it’s a great time for anyone young or old to have a go at playing the game

Cheerleading Clinic

On Friday week 3 & 4, Prospect Primary hosted some cheerleading clinics run by Next Level All Stars. Throughout these clinics, students in years 2, 3 & 4 were able to practise a variety of cheerleading exercises such as lifts, jumps and tumbles. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and many left the clinic with a positive attitude towards cheerleading. A special thanks to Lauren Elder and Breeanna Leonello for the wonderful clinics.
