For an extra challenge... Try this at home! Use toothpicks to balance a one-inch carrot top on a jar. Fill the jar so that water is just touching the bottom of the carrot. Refill the water as needed and watch leaves and flowers sprout out the top of the old carrot in just a few days. Recycle an onion! The white stringy bits that we cut off the end of an onion are actually roots. Instead of tossing out the end of the onion, dry it out for two days then plant it in a small pot. With some sun, water and time it will sprout delicious green onions. Cut the top off a small pumpkin and add soil and water. Observe with your child how long the seeds take to germinate and sprout. Plant the sprouted pumpkin outside to see the vines, flowers and eventual pumpkins that will grow! Try this at home!

Corte el �nal de una zanahoria dos centimetros debajo de las hojas y clávelo con palillos, sosteniendola en el borde de un vaso. Llene el vaso hasta que el agua apenas toque la zanahoria. Rellene de vez en cuando para mantener el nivel del agua, y vea como hojas y �ores crecen de la zanahoria dentro de pocos días.

Recicle una cebolla! Los hilitos blancos que cortamos cuando preparamos una cebolla son raíces. En vez de botar el �nal, séquelo por dos días y métalo en un vasito de tierra. Con un poco de sol, agua y tiempo brotará y crecerán hojas de cebolla verde deliciosas.

Cortar una calabaza pequeña y agregue tierra y agua. Observe junto a su hijo cuánto tiempo tardan las semillas en germinar y brotar. Plante la calabaza brotada afuera para ver las viñas, las �ores y las eventuales calabazas que crecerán!
