29th Sunday in Ordinary Time / 29º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 3

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,/ Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,

Saint Paul instructed Timothy (second reading) regarding the value of Scripture in discipleship. Paul says the scriptures are inspired by God and are useful for teach-ing, reproof, correction, training a person for righteousness, and equipping them for every good work. There is an adage that sug-gests the scriptures are an acronym: BASIC INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE LEAVING EARTH (BIBLE). The

Bible was given to the Church to instruct believers to be fully commit-ted disciples of Jesus Christ.

What does it take to be committed disciple of Jesus Christ? The Gospel states disciples pray always and do not lose heart. Jesus instructed that persistence and faithfulness in prayer until He returns is a part of dis-cipleship no matter how long it takes. The parable of the widow and the unjust judge illustrated this point. The widow was poor, lacked influ-ence and unable to influence the judge to obtain justice. She won a just decision by her persistence. Jesus concluded that God will grant justice to those who pray to him night and day.

On October 26, Chris Ciraulo will be ordained a deacon at Saint Columban Church in Garden Grove. Chris is from Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish and was assigned this past summer to Our Lady of Fati-ma by Bishop Kevin Vann. Congratulations Chris and Kathy Ciraulo; and our best wishes are with you!

We reached our Pastoral Services Appeal goal of $101,000. Thank you to all who made a donation and pledged; and thank you, Robin Margraf for coordinating a successful PSA Drive.

parish news, events, and opportunitiesLiturgy of the Word for ChildrenThis program takes place during the 9am Mass. Children 4 years (pre-k) through grade 4 are sent from

the main assembly to a nearby space where they celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in a simplified, yet equivalent format. Children in grades 1-4 return at the offertory. Pre-k and kindergarteners remain with their leaders until the end of Mass when they are picked up in the school kindergarten classroom by a parent. Pre-registration is not required to attend.

This ministry currently has openings for leaders and teen assistants. Leaders must have a love of both the Liturgy and an understanding of effective communication with children, and be willing to serve on a rotating basis every 4-6 weeks. Training is provided. Please contact Rosa Rama at 492-4101 ext. 119 or [email protected].

Baby Shower for Birth ChoiceOCTOBER 17-31October is Respect Life Month and in keeping with that OLF is having a baby shower! There will be a baby crib at the back of the church where you can put your baby gift. The items collected will be taken to the Birth Choice Center, a pregnancy resource center, where they will then be given to the women who have chosen to give birth to their baby and who are now attending new baby parenting classes. Items needed by Birth Choice are: diapers, baby clothes, baby toys, and baby blankets. Let's help these new mothers and their babies get a great start to their new lives!
