As I write this - half way throughGeorgie Fame’s week- it’s not possible to buy a ticket for a show at the club for the next20 days, everything is sold out. Now we could claim that that’s allto do with us being a great old place and the artists all beingfantastic, and of course there is something in that, but then I hearthat business is pretty good all over town. Steve Rubie from the Sixwas in for one of Georgie’s shows and he said that his trade downin Chelsea is pretty good and that seems to be the general Londonlive Jazz story.
Which leads me to a question I’m asked a lot at the moment, - whenwill we start streaming live concerts onto the web from the clubespecially as getting in is now so difficult. ?
Now I’m not one of those first adopters - people who have to havethe latest everything as soon as it appears, I’m more inclined to sitback and see how things settle, see which technology comes outahead, get the bugs out of the tech and then get involved. So is nowthe time? Broadband is probably fast enough for sure and thereceiving end quality gets better and better, buffering seems to be athing of the past in the main.
So the question really is, do people really watch a live concertexperience on a computer, or maybe a smart TV if you have the kit.?Well I don’t know, they tell me that the mega Pop/Rock bands get agood take up, but Jazz ? Another option is to broadcast into Cinemas,opera does very well, I’ve seen the numbers so maybe jazz wouldwork too. Well it is our intention to find out, quite probably by theend of the year in some form or fashion, so stay tuned.
And if by the time you get round to buying some tickets for the realthing, and the damn show is sold out, may I recommend the Late Lateshows. Or the Wednesday night jazz jam upstairs - now 5 years oldand still packing them in.

More than 20 years after his death, jazz megastar Miles Daviscontinues to cast a long shadow over the music world. So it is fittingthat this all-star project is named after Miles Davis 1967 masterpiece,Miles Smiles. The memory of Miles Smiles and the legendary quintetthat recorded it (Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, RonCarter and Tony Williams will be evoked by some of most prodigiousplayers in jazz today. All thrived in Davis’s final bands and they cometogether to pay sizzling tribute to their legendary employer. WallaceRoney is the only trumpeter Davis ever mentored and he held down thetrumpet chair in the great Tony Williams quintet.�Joey DeFrancesco was17 and unknown outside of Philadelphia when Davis recruited him, aspotlight that revived the flagging fortunes of the Hammond B3 organ.Electric bass genius Ralphe Armstrong is one of the major jazz fusiontrailblazers, working with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jean-Luc Ponty,Earl Klugh, Geri Allen and many more disciples and associates of MilesDavis. Finally, Drummer Alphonse Mouzon, a veteran of Weather Report,Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and Wayne Shorter appeared on MilesDavis’ 1990 soundtrack, Dingo. A thrilling prospect.

In addition he is a chart-topping producer; a Grammy,Latin Grammy and Emmy award winner who flavours his tuneswith the spice of Caribbean rhythms and jazz harmonies.

Fred Wesley is the trombonist, composer, arranger, bandleader and authorknown worldwide as one of the architects of funk music. Fred's work withGodfather of Soul James Brown in the 1970s established him as the world'sfunkiest trombone player. Today he fronts his own jazz-funk band, the NewJBs, but for these very special shows her appears with a Trans-Atlanticband featuring some of Italy’s finest players with some of America’s mostsoulful musicians for a down home, funky tribute to the godfather of souljazz, the great Jimmy Smith.

One time pop-star and award-winning jazz singer Curtis Stigers is at theforefront of a new generation of jazz singers. With one of the most distinctivevoices in music, the singer/saxophonist/songwriter pushes the boundaries ofconventional jazz performers and expands the jazz repertory creating modernjazz standards. Curtis continues to blaze a path as one of his generation’sfinest and most original interpreters of modern songs drawing on a his love ofrock, alt-country, blues, folk and even punk to define a new 21st Centurysongbook. Throughout his career, Curtis Stigers has been celebrated for asurprisingly wide variety of impressive accomplishments—from his early popchart success with several self-penned, top-ten singles and hit albums to beingnamed as BBC Radio 2 ‘Jazz Artist of the Year’. Eric Clapton endorsed virtuoso pedal steel guitarist who mixes gospel musicwith funk and soul who has played with the likes of Medeski Martin & Woodand who has enjoyed considerable success on the American jam band scenewith his Robert Randolph And The Family Band featuring cousins DanyellMorgan and Marcus Randolph (bass and drums, respectively) and John Ginty(Hammond B-3 organ). DAVE O’HIGGINS. The Brubeck family is unique in the world of music. Seldom has an entirefamily been as prolific and talented. Four of the late, great Dave Brubeck'sfive children are professional musicians and, like the UK’s very ownDankworths, they all take off in different directions coming together atspecial times. Darius, the eldest Brubeck son, is a jazz pianist, composer,educator and band-leader. Chris, a multi-instrumentalist and award-winning composer and superlative bassist, Dan is a renowned, Grammy-nominated percussionist, acclaimed for his exciting drum solos and hasbeen featured with musicians as diverse as Gerry Mulligan and The Band.For these very special shows they are joined by UK saxophonist DaveO’Higgins for a unique Brubecks play Brubeck show in which they’ll explorethe repertoire of the brothers, late father Dave Brubeck one of jazz’s mosticonic composers who sadly passed away last December.
