2. IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIAWHAT ? Condition in which blood lacks adequateiron. Without iron body cant produceenough hemoglobin, a substance in redblood cells that enables red blood cellscarry oxygen to the bodys tissues 3. SIGN AND SYMPTOM Extreme fatigue Pale skin Weakness Shortness of breath Headache Dizziness Cold hands and feet Inflammation or soreness of your tongue 4. CAUSE AND RISK FACTOR Blood loss. A lack of iron in your diet. An inability to absorb iron. Pregnancy. Vegetarian Frequent blood donors. 5. HEALTH EDUCATION Encourage patient choose iron-rich foods : Beans Dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach Dried fruit, such as raisins and apricots Eggs Iron-fortified cereals, breads Peas Red meat Seafood 6. HEALTH EDUCATION Choose foods containing vitamin C to enhance ironabsorption : Broccoli Grapefruit Kiwi Leafy greens Mangoes Melons Oranges Peppers Strawberries Tomatoes 7. VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCYANEMIA WHAT? Condition in which the body hasinadequate stores of vitamin B12. Thisvitamin is essential for many aspects ofhealth, including the production of redblood cells. 8. SIGN AND SYMPTOM Chest pain or heart palpitations Confusion, memory loss Constipation Depression Fatigue or weakness Numbness or coldness of hands and feet Poor appetite Shortness of breath 9. CAUSE AND RISK FACTOR Being an older adult Tapeworm infestation Pernicious anemia Surgical removal of a portion of the smallintestine Vegans and strict vegetarians who do not eatmeat, fish, eggs, or dairy products Pregnant or breast-feeding women who arevegans or strict vegetarians 10. HEALTH EDUCATION Eating a diet that includes a sufficient amountof vitamin B12. eg: 11. Taking vitamin B12 supplements asrecommended if you are at highrisk for developing vitaminB12 deficiency. Folic acid deficiency anemia happenswhen your body does not getenough folic acid.Folic acid is one of theB vitamins, and it helps your body makenew cells, including new red blood cells. 13. CAUSES AND RISK FACTOR Dont eat enough foods that contain folic acid. Greater need for folic acid.
