About Angelis Christies
Amidst the rising chatter of voices, the crescendo of laughter, hugs and squeals of delight, the members of the Angelis Christies BSN 1974, all gathered together for our fortieth class reunion and homecoming at St. Paul University of Manila. Home is definitely where the heart is! Perhaps it is with a few gray hairs, poise, great confidence, some additional pounds later, we all took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing the familiar places in the campus, the chapel-the center of our student lives, the library where we lived and took naps after classes, the canteen, our ever loving sisters and faculty, reliving those precious moments when we were young (once), with brilliant minds, patient focused, compassionate, caring, fun loving, altruistic and ready to conquer the world of healthcare! And we did!

About Angelis Christies
Our forty year nursing journey, after graduating from the hallowed halls of our beloved alma mater, had many stops along the way. The bright eyed, young nurses took diverse paths as we spread our wings around the world, in the Philippines, Canada, Ireland, Middle East and the United States, among other places. We found ourselves at the patients’ bedside, in the ICU, Medical Surgical Units, Surgery, Pediatrics, Oncology, Maternity and Labor and Delivery, ED, Long Term Care and the Ambulatory settings. We are in Academia teaching and imparting the experience and wisdom of Florence Nightingale, we are leaders and Deans of Colleges of Nursing; we are rising through the ranks of management in all operational functions of healthcare, leading strategic planning initiatives. We are in law and government and military sectors assisting with the
needs of our citizens, formulating public policy for the welfare of our countrymen, defending those in need of our services. We are all across the continuum of care, making a difference, one day at a time!
We are now wives, mothers, aunts and grandmothers, raising families, multitasking, and juggling between our nursing profession and family responsibilities. We are also dedicated career women, reaping the benefits of single blessedness, focusing on the future of nursing, mentoring and nurturing our young ones, the future nurses who will blaze the same trails where we have once belonged. We are Paulinians, steeped in the traditions of our Catholic faith, returning to roost in our nests, rekindling the spirit of what inspired us many years ago to become nurses, with emotions tugging at our hearts, of
mixed feelings of paying it forward for our fellowmen and seeking fertile grounds for the advancement and growth of our profession.
After many, many years of dedicated service, some of us find retirement to be the next step, enjoying the fruits of our labor, traveling to visit the kids and grandkids, remembering our long forgotten hobbies, dusting off the covers of books that we kept on our nightstands, having regular movie and dinner dates with our beloved spouses, planting flowers and vegetables in our backyards, volunteering in church, food pantries and soup kitchens, helping the poor and less fortunate, and really just pausing to remember to live life, smell the roses and express our appreciation to the Lord for our countless blessings.
Where are we now?
In retrospect, we miss our dearest classmates and colleagues, Angelica Mangabat, Merceditas Luciano, Rose Mary Israel-Gorospe, Rosario Basa-Lugay, who have gone before us, found everlasting peace and eternal happiness with our Lord. We remember one of our Deans, Sister Mary Damiana Jiloca, SPC. She inspired us to greater heights. We keep them and their families in our thoughts and prayers and thank them for their equally great contributions to life and the profession of nursing! We truly miss them and will forever remember them with the fondest of thoughts. God bless them all! You will not be forgotten!
Words alone cannot express our sincere gratitude, to those who inspired us, held our hands along the way, fed us when we were hungry, nourished our minds and hearts when needed, picked us up when we stumbled along the way, laughed with us during funny moments, cried with us as we lost a loved one, prayed for us when challenges seemed insurmountable, taught and inspired us for five years, provided hope when hope seemed a distant goal, shared our joys as successes
came throughout our journey. This is another chapter in our book of life.
Many, many thanks to Sister Angelica Castor, spc, our spiritual advisor, who has been always there for us, through thick and thin. She provided the guidance and direction for the fundraising and building of the Pag- Asa Hall at the National Mental Hospital. The Angelis Christies have left their legacy in society, for the behavioral health patients who truly need a place
for socialization and gatherings. She motivated us to plan and get this fortieth reunion to be a reality, be successful, meet the goals of our class and help support the needs of our beloved sisters at Mere’Monique. To Melen Siochi-Caraballo and family, thanks for your time, energy and dedication in making our homecoming a real success, memorable, fun and now recorded in the annals of history!
To my dearest and beloved Angelis Christis and families... phenomenal team efforts indeed! May we all be together once again, soon, same place, same faces! Ten years from now, we will be the kinder, gentler Golden Jubilarians! Let us put on our thinking caps, plan accordingly, since 2024 will be here before we know it! Our class will be in charge of planning the homecoming. This will once again be, the opportunity to showcase the leadership abilities, planning skills, talents and the artistic side of the Angelis Christis. Save the date, January, 2024!
Good luck to all and hasta la vista!
Those who have gone before us...
For these, we are grateful….
A Salute to the Future!

Together forever, never apart; may be in distance, never in heart Angelis Christies BSN Class’74 SPCM Class Maxim
Dear Angelis Christies,
On this 40th anniversary of receiving our baccalaureate degree in nursing from SPCM (SPUM) as the ANGELIS CHRISTIES, it seems appropriate to express gratitude that we have come this far and to be open to all the possibilities that are yet to come. What have helped us along the way were the noble values and professional competence inculcated in us by our beloved sisters and mentors at St. Paul College.Together with our families, we owe them much and in our own ways, we are returning to the communities and societies we serve all the love and caring we have received.
At the heart of this momentous celebration are the wisdom, vision and commitment of the founding Marian and Pauline Community of disciples deeply rooted in Christ.Indeed, our nursing education at SPCM (SPUM) vividlydemonstrates their virtuous pledge to “nurturing the hearts and developing the minds.”Today, this altruistic mission continues to inform all our work and build our dreams with Mary as our perfect role model and St. Paul, our faithful patron.
Together, it is our privilege and obligation to continue realizing SPCM/SPUM vision. Rooted in the radical Gospel values of charity, compassion and servant leadership, as student nurses, the Angelis spent many hours living the Paulinian vision and mission. With compassion and with every newly learned competence, we took care of the sick at Singian Clinic, Manila Doctors’ Hospital, Medical Center of Manila, and Capitol Medical Center and their governmental counterparts such as the Jose Fabella Hospital’s Obstetrics and Pediatrics, San Lazaro Hospital and the National Orthopedic Hospital. We enjoyed learning nursing specialties while looking forward to our “merienda” enticingly prepared by the cafeteria staff or by enterprising local market and street vendors. The Orchids and Manels wereourfavorite joints around the school neighborhood.
As early in our SPC nursing education, as young student servant leaders focused on sustainable community development,we had the unique advantage of combining public health nursing imperatives and Catholic social teachings in the health care arena in the towns of Rizal Province. Empowered with collective consciousness for social transformation, the Angelis adopted project Pag-Asa, exuberantlysinging Christmas carols each year to help fund an alternative healthy environment, restoring the impaired dignity of our “kababayans” with mental conditions.
We were part of the first Philippine graduate nurses cohort in carrying out the government health care workforce decree to serve in rural areas while awaiting our RN licensure. Vitalized by our Paulinian nursing education, we travelledwith the zeal and courage of the Apostle Paul to take on this mandate given the manyuncertainties and challenges. We spent four months caring for the deprived and marginalized groups and communities of needy Filipinos in the remote provinces. This invaluable rural nursing experience had touched our hearts and minds. Hence, it is no coincidence that we have clamored to engage in a medical-health mission as part of our Angelis Christies 2014 homecoming.
Our Paulinian nursing education provided opportunities to learn our social roles. Our esteemed sisters supported with trust and of course, fervent prayers, our normalyouthful interest to connect with students from other schools. We organized fascinatingsoirees and exciting extracurricular community activities on weekends when study times for examswas least demanding. Indeed, a number of Angelis met their future beloved husbands through these social and civic functions bearing much fruit including raising a family.
We have distinguished ourselves as truly “the loving nurse of all” (SPUM School Hymn) in the fields of practice that we have chosen. Hence, it is very important that we stay well connected as Angelis Christies and nurture ties with our SPUM roots. Let’s build and strengthen our SPUM Network through helping realize the vision of our beloved alma mater.
Our bonds as a community have been strengthened and deepened by our regularcommunication as well as face-to-face group meetings and class reunions. We have shared pride in many achievements and comforted each other in times of sorrow. Our journeys in life have been enriched with companions we have known for four decades, a priceless gift! May we continue to be ANGELS to each other and to all, especially the needy. As Paulinian nurses, we,Angelis Christies, will continue to be our best!
Much love and many blessings,

About Angelis Christies
My dear Angelis Christies,
I am very happy to be a part of your 40th Anniversary Celebration as Paulinian Nursing Graduates. It seems to be just like yesterday we were “together enjoying the pleasant and memorable moments studying, working, helping, socializing and praying for one another to attain our individual goals in life. Allow me to share with you some valuable quotations about life.
Dear Angelis Christies,
Prayerfull CONGRATULATIONS on your JUBILEE! May the Lord continue to empower you with CHRIST-LIKE virtues as you go through your Life’s journey as PAULINIAN Nurses forever.
CARITAS CHRISTI URGET NOS!
“Life is like a box of chocolates. Each chocolate is like a position of life. Some are crunchy, some are nutty, some are sweet, some are chewy, but all are delicious in their own way. Without each one, life would not be complete.” “Life is never easy. You can decide for things you need but, you cannot expect a good result. You choose a lifestyle you want but you cannot be sure of contentment. You can enjoy the feeling of loving and being loved, but there is no sure way for true happiness. But if we let God be our life’s guide, we can be sure of a safe landing, real contentment and happiness.“ “Life is good when you are happy and life is better when you make others Happy. But life is at its best when God is happy and pleased because of you.”
May God fill your hearts with much love, your soul with peace, your mind with wisdom, and your body with good health. May Mama Mary, Mother of God continue to intercede for us, that we may never doubt God’s presence in our midst.
May you have a very successful and joyful celebration!
With assurance of my prayerful and love for all of you and your loved ones.
Sr. Marie Antoine Villanueva, SPC
Affectionately in Our Lady,Sr. Cornelie de Marie Sarmiento, SPC

About Angelis Christies
My dear Angelis Christies,
God speaks to us in ways we can understand and He meets us there where we are. We do not need to be “saints”, all we have to be is “to BE” where God has called us to BE in a particular time, particular place and people.
Congratulations for successfully journeyed for 40th year as Paulinian Nurses bringing the “torch” of Caritas Christi Urget Nos!
God speaks to us at all times but sometimes when we are most vulnerable... when we are sick and faced with many cares and concerns. “We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him.” Rom. 8:28
Recall the moments where you encountered the Lord... maybe through your family, friends, patients or sometimes the experience of disappointments and misunderstandings. In your joys, pains, success and failures – YES, GOD is there with you, otherwise you would not have survived! You are “Angels” ...continue to light your little candle and let it spark to give light to those whom you come in contact with. You are angels sent by Christ.
Again, congratulations, my very dear ANGELIS CHRISTIES!
Love & prayer,Sr. Angelica, SPC
Greetings to the”RUBY JUBILARIANS 2014”,Angelis Christies BSN SPCM 1974
My dear Angelis Christies;
Hep, hep, Hurah, hep, hep Hurah! Honor, glory, gratitude and praise to the Triune God for allowing you to experience the special gift of life and celebration on your Ruby Jubilee Year!
I rejoice with gratitude in solidarity with all your batch mates on this milestone. To the initiator, coordinators, committee members, congratulations for patiently and lovingly motivating, energizing and enthusiastically propelling your classmates to enjoy cooperating and bonding together for the envisioned success of your jubilee. Jubilee celebrations are red-letter-days; are really time for thanking God for past and present people, events, circumstances that transpired along life’s journey and had fashioned you all the way through for what you are now. I am positive you have all of these components in your strategic and action plans. It is said that a well planned celebration is 90% success.
Remember to include a major portion of your plan, persons who have gone ahead of you, who cannot do anything to help themselves anymore; persons who have touched your lives who are waiting for your prayers so that they can be released from the pains of purgatory. With help of your suffrages soon, they will be in heaven.
Once again, congratulations on your Ruby Jubilee Year!
Love & prayer,Sr. Bernardita Quizon, SPC

I wake up in the morning with lots of fun stuff on my “To do list”. Play tennis or run before breakfast? We are fortunate to have access to a tennis court 5 minutes from home and a running trail right in front of our development. The rest of the day is wide open unless we have errands...grocery shopping, post office, etc. We usually have a leisurely breakfast at the lanai where we can appreciate the ocean view and garden. Then my energy starts to sap so I take a nap. Do some house keeping or watch a movie in the afternoon? Whip up a fruit shake for lunch.
Late afternoon choices of activities: Go for a swim when the waves are calm, walk on the beach while watching the surfers and marvel at the sun set. Or do some gardening. The beach is a 2 minute walk from home.
For some quiet time, I go for a nice long sit at the back lanai with a book, catch up with friends thru social media while enjoying the refreshing cool trade winds.
A few minutes turn into hours and before you know it, it’s time for dinner. Eat in or dine out? Go to Haleiwa town or drive 45 minutes to Honolulu. Enjoy a little bit more wine after dinner and be grateful for the day.
Think about the next day? Never mind, I won’t bother myself with any regrets. I’ve got plenty of time to do it all over again tomorrow.
PEACE,
A day in the life of aRetired Nurse
