Good evening everyone and welcome to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium for our second home match of the season against Concord Rangers.

We hope our visitors have had a trouble-free journey from Essex this evening and wish them a safe return home.

In particular my greetings are extended to Danny Scopes who was appointed to the Apex Arena hot seat again for the start of this season. He certainly got off to the best of starts with an emphatic 3-0 win at Oxford City at the start of the season and has continued that since with maximum points from their three games.

Last campaign it’s probably fair to say that the Beach Boys were one of the surprise packages of National South in reaching the play offs. Unfortunately they were unable to take their place in the end of season competition due to ground-grading issues which must have been very frustrating but it simply goes to show what can be possible when a team really gels.

What we know from that achievement is that we will really have to work hard to get anything out of the game this evening, create and take our chances when they come and defend well.

I think most would agree that a draw would not have been an unfair outcome in our opening encounter at home to Dulwich Hamlet ten days ago. Yes we started a bit slowly but grew into the game and perhaps should have made more of the man advantage either side of half time.

There will be debates about the penalty award against us and Jonny’s sending off but what happened after that was that Hamlet seemed to be content to hold on to their narrow lead and strangely with James in goal hardly managed to venture into our half, but I think that is down to the way we defended, not just in our back four but as a ten man unit as we prevented them from any genuine attacking play. In any event with our penalty conversion and general positive play the draw was very much on. It wasn’t quite to be but I was pleased with our response against a side who very definitely have play-off ambitions.

Fortunately Jonny’s injury was not as serious as first feared but nevertheless we have had to sign on loan Myles Roberts from Reading who I thought had a good game at Eastbourne, and then grew in stature at Dorking. He’s a young lad, he’s not even 18 years old and he and Reading are doing us a favour, he’s ours for as long as we need him until Jonny’s fit. He’s got strengths and weaknesses but if he had everything he wouldn’t be playing for Tonbridge.

Against Eastbourne Borough away a week ago we had a poor first half and paid the full price finding ourselves 2-0 down at the break. Maybe some of the players were still living off that 2nd half performance against Dulwich, but in any event instructions were simply not followed and they were told that in no uncertain terms at half time. At this level you cannot gift the opposition two goals as you are simply giving yourselves a mountain to climb as it proved. 2nd half saw a distinct improvement and if D’Sean’s effort goes in around the hour mark it would have become a different sort of game. So more hard lessons learnt.

Against Dorking on Saturday I thought we were superb for the first 25 minutes, and having seen the video of Rhyle’s red card three times, I think the referee got that completely wrong when he said Rhyle used an elbow with excessive force. The sending off changed the course of the game massively. But we came out well in the second half, and got a goal to put us back into it.

We haven’t got a point on the board yet, everyone is well aware of that, but we’re only in the second week of the season, there are 36 or 37 weeks to go, and I see enough out there to give us all confidence we can get enough points to stay in this division.

I though it was a fantastic atmosphere here against Dulwich, despite the result, it was a special occasion for the club. Myself and the players are genuinely appreciating your support and will continue to do everything to respond in a positive way.

Come on you Angels

Good Evening everyone and welcome to the Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium. In particular those greetings are extended to the playing staff, directors and supporters of Concord Rangers who have made the relatively short journey across that Bridge to be with us tonight. I hope that you all have a trouble free journey back through the Tunnel later this evening. I also welcome tonight’s officials for the game and hope they all have a good match.

At this stage of the season the games are coming thick and fast and already it seems a while ago since the first game of the season here against Dulwich Hamlet. I’ll leave the Gaffer to discuss what happened regarding the game in his column but there is one aspect in particular of that afternoon that I’m sure gladdened the heart of all true Angels supporters and that was the sight of 80 year old Rosemary Stubberfield leading the teams out before kick-off. She and her husband George have been supporters for 50 years and the applause they received from you the fans was heart-warming and really does show what this club is all about.

You’ll have to forgive me for pushing once again the 12th Man Fund. This really is vital for Steve McKimm to be able to be a little more flexible with his team as the season progresses and can allow him to make a real difference to results. Adem Ramadan last season was a player funded through that scheme and we of course all remember that memorable strike at Haringey Borough in the play-off semi-final so you see positive things really do come through it.

There is a standing order form on the website and on completion please hand to any director or Jonny Henly’s Dad, John who is helping with this season’s fundraising. If standing orders are not to your liking then there will be bucket collections through the season, a Quiz Night, a Race Night, and a Golf Day when you can test your skills against the players at the Poult Wood Course, in Higham Lane.

That happens on Wednesday 4th September so please register your interest as soon as possible by emailing Steve Churcher at [email protected].

Some supporters have asked us about coach travel to away games particularly as

naturally enough some fixtures are some distance away. I can tell you there will be coach travel to Bath City, Chippenham Town, Oxford City, Hungerford Town and Havant and Waterlooville. Although prices are yet to be confirmed quite clearly they will have to be an increase on last season due to the distances involved. There will of course be reductions for owners so another good reason for becoming one. The application form can be found on the club’s website.

We are taking orders for the new home and away shirts in the club shop so why not pop in there this evening and get your name down for one or maybe two.

Your club is constantly arranging and working with outside organisations on a programme of events.

We’ve already mentioned in connection with the 12th Man Fund, a Quiz Night, the Golf Day and a Race Night but also coming hard up on the rails (sorry about that), is a Family Fun Day at the Marquee on Sunday 25th August with loads of attractions for kids. A Murder Mystery Evening again at the Marquee on Friday 6th September is quickly followed by an Oktoberfest evening on Saturday October 12th the same day as our home fixture against Braintree Town so why not come to the game in your lederhosen if you dare!

Much more information can be found in our match day programme, website and also on our Twitter and Facebook feeds so do please keep your eyes peeled. Of course if you have any ideas for future events here at the club and then please do get in touch with our Events Director Sarah Parks, her email is [email protected]

Yet another date for your diaries – well this is called Boardroom Diary after all! – is Friday September 20th which is the Owners AGM with a 7pm for 7:30pm start in the Marquee. Remember you have to be an owner to attend so again why not become one (See above)

Please enjoy the game this evening and safe journeys home everyone.

Jim Rowe

I’m not sure too many people included Concord Rangers in their promotion candidates this season but if league tables mean anything after three games, they come to Longmead today as league leaders with maximum points. It is particularly impressive considering the number of changes to their team over the summer. After a bit of a raid on Haringey Borough, they started the season with wins over Oxford City and Chelmsford City and followed that up with a 2-1 victory over Slough on Saturday.

The Essex side could have been playing in play-offs for a place in the National League at the end of last season but weeks from the end of the campaign they were told they were not eligible to play in the play-offs due to ground grading (number of covered seats). Their league position of sixth would otherwise have given them a place.

In the summer manager Sammy Moore left the club, (he’s now in charge at Hemel). He was replaced by Danny Scopes, who returned to the role. Former Tonbridge player Lee Minshull, who started 57 games for the Angels between 2008 and 2010, was appointed player-assistant manager with James Roach, Nathan Church, Adam Drew and Daniel James Howett also part of the coaching and recruitment staff.

Looking through the playing staff, Decarrey Sheriff has already scored four times this season, two in the win over Chelmsford last Tuesday and another two against Slough on Saturday, so he’ll be looking to add to that tonight. Decarrey joined Concord from Colchester United but he’d spent spells on loan at Needham Market, Maldon and Tiptree and Dulwich Hamlet. Another forward player to watch is one we are very familiar with, Joel Nouble. Joel, who almost joined Tonbridge in the summer of 2018, was in the Haringey squad we met in the play-off semi-finals last season.

After Minshull, the first new signing of the summer was midfielder James Blanchfield. He moved from Dagenham and Redbridge having spent his youth football with Arsenal and Ipswich. On the same day, 17 May, the Beach Boys also added Freddy Moncur and Chris Haigh. Moncur, son of former West Ham player John Moncur, played national league football for Ebbsfleet last season and has also played professionally for Leyton Orient. Haigh is a goalkeeper who joined Concord from Heybridge Swifts, and has also played for Merstham and East Grinstead.

Also into Thames Road from last year’s Haringey squad are defenders Michael O’Donoghue and Tosin Olufemi. Irishman O’Donoghue joined the North London side midway through the 2016-17 season after three years at Colchester and Olufemi has also played for Colchester as well as Hayes and Yeading. Other summer signings include former Gillingham striker Greg Cundle who scored more than 20 goals last season for East Grinstead, Kosovan-born Kreshnic Krasniqi, who was also with Haringey last year and scored on his Concord debut ten days ago at Oxford City, former Dartford midfielder Billy Roast, who returns to Concord, and striker Danny Bassett, a man who netted more than 20 times for Tooting and Mitcham last year.

One of the reasons Concord are where they are today is the contribution of the Cowley brothers. Danny and Nicky, now manager and assistant at league one Lincoln City, had a long association with the club as players and then the management team. Danny firstly took over as joint manager in 2007 with the club in the Essex Senior League. But by 2013 they were in National League South, having won their third promotion in six years through the play-offs. The Cowleys left for Braintree before taking over at Sincil Bank, taking the Imps into the football league and now in league one.

Based just two and a half miles from Canvey Island FC, Concord are now in their seventh season in the second level of non-league football, not bad for a side who started life in 1966 playing friendlies on a pitch by Canvey Island sea-front, their name coming from that of the beach next to where the club started out.

Finally a look at the history of matches between the clubs. This is

the sixth meeting between the clubs and we have never been beaten by Concord. Our last meeting was at Thames Road in April 2014 when we drew 2-2. Michael Bakare and Alex Teniola gave us a 2-0 lead with goals just before half-time, Steve Cawley and Tony Stokes scored for the Beach Boys in the second half while Chris Piper was sent off for the Angels. Due to the inclement weather that season, the game fell just seven days after the corresponding game at Longmead, which also ended 2-2 and also saw the Angels reduced to ten men. Sam Collins gave Concord the lead, Evan James and Mark Lovell scored second half goals for Tonbridge before Concord’s late controversial equaliser through Steve King. Angels skipper Gary Elphick was shown red for dissent straight after the goal.

Our only other meetings were in 2010-11 when we won both league games, and a meeting in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

The 12th Man Scheme is running for a fourth consecutive season and we would like as many supporters as possible to take part. After all the hard work and commitment shown by everyone last season, we achieved promotion in dramatic fashion through the super play-offs, a day we will never forget! However, that was last season and now is when the really hard work begins. We want to be competitive in the Vanarama National League South and to achieve this, the support of the 12th Man Scheme will be vital.

Last year we raised just over £8,000 (three times the previous year’s amount) and the money helped to pay the wages of players such as Adem Ramadan, Jack Richards, Liam King, Sammy Knott, Michael West and Tom Murphy. This year we want to do even better and raise three times as much again, so we have set an ambitious target of £25,000. We guarantee that every penny raised will go into the playing budget to fund additional players, and details of how your money is spent will be announced in the matchday programme.

We realise that most supporters are not able to contribute large sums but TOGETHER we can make a big difference. The best way to achieve our target is for supporters to donate by monthly standing order which some of us already do. Monthly donations start from £10 which is about the cost of half a pint of beer a week! To encourage this, we have introduced incentives as follows:

• A monthly prize draw will take place for all supporters who make a donation by standing order. Suitable prizes (Champagne, Matchday Hospitality etc) will be announced for the winners.

• Supporters donating a minimum of £30 per month will be allowed access to the Executive Lounge area on match days with complimentary tea/coffee at half-time.

In addition to monthly donations, there are a number of other ways you can support the 12th Man Scheme during the season.

• One-off donations and Bucket Collections

• £500 Golden Goal

• Events such as Golf Day, Race Night, Quiz night etc

• 12th Man pre-match lunches (details to be advised)

This is your opportunity to make a real difference to the depth of the resources available to Steve McKimm. If you would like to donate by monthly standing order, please complete the attached form and hand it to me, a fellow Director or John Henly (Jonny’s Dad) who is helping with fundraising.

Have a great season. Come On You Angels!

MANAGER’S VIEW“Keep up the great support, we’ve created chances on Saturday and we’ve created chances today. We’re only two games in and we will be fine.”

FAN’S VIEW - MARK DAVISON“I think we were the better team for the first 15 minutes, but as soon as Wheeler scored against us we struggled to get back into the game.”

PLAYER’S VIEW - TOMMY BREWER“We’re not far off anyone, if we stay in games we will always have a chance. Goals change games and we have to be more clinical at both ends.”

Here we are, back in the National South after six years. What is apparent after the time away is the increasing professionalism in this league. There seems to be a lot more money about, and that’s after discounting “rogue” owners such as Glenn Tamplin.

For example, Dulwich lost two of their key close season signings in a pre-season friendly a week before the start of the season, so went out and signed three replacements. This from a club that rattled buckets at away supporters for most of last season, for cash to subsidise their return to Champion Hill. Or Maidstone, whose Chairman stated that his club needed £1.6m to operate this season.

Most of this will be spent on player wages. There’s no doubt that the quality of players is better than it was six years ago. Equally, I expect that managers still roll their eyes at the demands of some players, especially those who flit from club to club with no obvious merit. It also means that the National League is now effectively full time, and the top North and South teams who aspire to compete at that level are having to do the same.

Teams we used to compete with readily last time round, from Boreham Wood and Bromley, to Maidenhead and Sutton have gone on to establish themselves at this higher level, but it seems a much harder task to follow in their footsteps. Indeed as a Community owned club, one has to wonder if it is feasible to become established in the National South without a generous individual or board to bankroll the standard of players required.

This season could be seen as the acid test of the viability of Tonbridge Angels as a Community Club at this level. The hard working Board has capitalised on the extra PR available as a National South club with some smart new sponsorship deals, and the regular fundraisers and supporter initiatives continue to deliver. The club should at least be mid-table in attendances, which also means there’s an increased footfall to target for ownership, as well as the gate and ancillary revenue.

I guess this is where I have a bit of beef. Aside from an (over?) generous season ticket discount last season, the benefits of ownership are nebulous. Should this matter?

Should there be “something in it” for the owner, or should it just be for the love of it? I believe that the more you offer, the more likely you are to achieve acceptance, and better uptake will follow.

For example, we have sponsorship boards all round the ground. How about you scratch our backs by offering owners a discount on your services, and we’ll scratch yours by introducing a few hundred new customers to you? A win-win. A virtuous circle of happy fans, engaged sponsors, increased commitment to the club, more opportunity to generate funds for the playing budget, better results on the pitch, which leads to more through the door, and so on.

I’m not sure if this is me thinking outside the box, or me getting out of my box. What I do know, if we go back to where all this started, is that I want Tonbridge Angels to be an established National South team. That needs money, it involves change, it involves the Tonbridge community, and everyone reading this will have their own ideas about how this could be achieved.

Don’t be shy. This club needs ideas for different sources of income, including yours. You deserve to be seen and heard. Club email addresses are easy to find on the website. Don’t be shy - if your idea generates the extra few pounds that set us up in the National South, it’ll be worth every penny.

Another option is for the club to develop and invest the infrastructure for a true community resource, which inevitably means an artificial pitch, and moving towards the seven day a week operation to generate the cash needed. This would involve a huge shift in culture and mindset, with a difficult balance to be struck between the happily old school nature of the club today, and the encroachment of the needs of a more professional era.

Whether aspiring to stay in the National South and embracing the need for change to do so, or accepting a more purist existence at Isthmian level, the world of non league football is changing. Sitting on the fence is less and less of an option. Everyone has an opinion. What’s yours?

Addlestone & Weybridge Town extended its name from Addlestone F.C. in 1980. In 1985, the club ceased due to lack of money and the greater success of rival clubs. Their last match took place against Waterlooville at Liberty Lane on 27 April 1985.

Addlestone F.C. was formed in April 1885 and played their games at Crockford Park. In the early 1950s the club was offered the freehold of an orchard in Liberty Lane and remained there until the club folded in 1985. In 1954–55 the club entered the Parthenon League but added travelling proved too much for many players so the club went back to the Surrey Senior League two seasons later. In 1960–61 the club won the title as well as winning the Surrey Charity Cup.

In 1964–65 the club joined the larger Spartan League and in 1971 they were admitted to the Athenian League and the club reached

the quarter finals of the FA Vase in successive seasons 1973/74, a feat never to be repeated. In 1977 the club joined the Southern League for season 1977–78 and in 1980-81, under a new management team they changed their name to Addlestone & Weybridge Town FC. The first round proper of the FA Cup was reached. Despite being drawn to be at home the club decided to switch the tie with Brentford to Griffin Park seeing a 2–2 draw result but losing the replay 2–0.

The following season the club finished ninth in the league thus entering the newly formed Southern League Premier. They were bottom and relegated that next season but finished fifth in the Southern Division the season after. The sale of the ground led to a mid-season crisis within the club and the decision was taken to end its association with the town of Addlestone.

THE FINAL TIME WE METTONBRIDGE AFC 4GILLHAM 27’ 78’, DIXON 79’, BLEWDEN 85’

ADDLESTONE & WEYBRIDGE TOWN 0ATTENDANCE 227

WEDNESDAY 10 APRIL 1985 • SOUTHERN LEAGUE SOUTHERN DIVISION

TONBRIDGE: HUBBARD, SENCHEREY, CAROLAN I , COUPLAND, DIXON, SAMPSON, BLEWDEN, CAROLAN N, GILLHAM, CHURCHILL, BOOTH. SUB: KEIRS.

The Jekyll and Hyde character of Tonbridge emerged again on Wednesday night when they produced a lively and entertaining performance, packed with exciting, attacking football, to make high-flying Addlestone look very mediocre in comparison.

Football aficionados of experience need no telling that the game’s big attraction is that it is full of surprises – thus are the mighty fallen – but anybody who could accurately put a finger on what made the Angels change from an incompetent rabble at Sheppey (a 3-0 defeat) to a well-oiled unit at Longmead might find himself on free beer for a year in the Angels Bar.

Skipper Mark Gillham, looking much sharper and winning the ball again in the air after a longish period off form, put his team ahead after 27 minutes, his easy tap-in following a fine run down the right flank by Booth and accurate cross, the move begun by Neil Carolan.

Tonbridge briefly lost their impetus for 15

minutes in the second half, but the defence soaked up Stones rather cumbersome attempts to get forward and Tonbridge’s authority was quickly reasserted. Even so, immediately from the restart, Caulfield had to make a fine save from Gillham’s header and the brilliant Churchill had a rasping shot cleared from the line.

It was Gillham, rising high above the defenders in the goalmouth, who got the second goal on 78 minutes, but the real work was done by Churchill, who ran to the corner, beating three men, then lay the ball back for Ian Carolan to cross from the right.

A minute later it was 3-0 when hard-working Colin Blewden, after bustling into the right corner, crossed for new defender Tony Dixon to rise and steer the ball down past Caulfield’s stretching hands.

Now fully on a “high”, Tonbridge pressed up and Blewden made it 4-0 on 85 minutes with a header from Gillham’s after he (Blewden) had had other shots turned away or blazed off the line. In fact he nearly had a second, three minutes from time, when his rasping drive cannoned off the foot of a post with the Stones wilting under the sustained pressure.

Three teams have maximum points after the first three games in Vanarama National League South, and they aren’t necessarily the teams tipped by many to be leading the race for promotion, Concord, Dorking and Dulwich.

Concord’s winning start is described in more detail on Page 8, while Dulwich continued where they left off here ten days ago with home wins over Wealdstone and St Albans. Nyren Clunis marked his 450th game for Dulwich with a goal and an assist in their 2-1 victory over St Albans despite them having Dominic Vose sent off before half-time, their second red card of the season.

Dorking’s win over the Angels on Saturday was their ninth in a row as they also won the last six of last season in the Bostik Premier. They’ve had the advantage of playing against ten men in all three games this season, but they still had to win them, preceding Saturday’s victory with a 1-0 win at Slough and a 3-1 success at home to Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday. Jason Prior has scored three of their seven goals.

Four other teams have made unbeaten starts to the season, including early favourites Havant and Waterlooville, although the Hawks have by no means found games easy. They opened the season with a 1-1 draw against another fancied team, Welling United, came from 3-1 down to beat Hampton and Richmond on Tuesday night and then drew 1-1 at Dartford on Saturday. The other unbeaten sides are Saturday’s opponents Bath City, Weymouth, and Chippenham who followed up two draws with a 2-0 win over Billericay. Luke Hopper opened the scoring with a penalty, and Nat Jarvis made the game certain in stoppage time. Billericay came close at the end, hitting the post and having a Matt Rhead penalty saved.

Three teams other than ourselves are looking for their first point tonight. Braintree Town, relegated from the National League, have already conceded nine goals as they’ve been beaten by Bath, Billericay and Wealdstone. Slough Town are also yet to trouble the scorers with 1-0 defeats to Dorking and Hungerford and a 2-1 loss at Concord on Saturday. They became the last of the 22 teams in the league to score this season when Ben Harris levelled for them in the 58th minute on Saturday.

Hampton and Richmond striker Tyrone Lewthwaite has the honour of being the only player in the league to have scored in every game. However it hasn’t reaped him any rewards as his side have lost all three matches. Weymouth’s Josh McQuoid scored the league’s first hat-trick of the season. He netted in the 41st, 52nd and 55th minutes in the league newboys’ 4-1 win over Chelmsford City, including two of the game’s three penalties.

A look at how the other Kent sides have fared, a new-look Maidstone United side lost their first two games but broke their duck on Saturday, winning 3-1 at Hungerford. Coming from behind they took the points thanks to a Dan Wishart header, Nana Kyei’s penalty and a close range shot from ex Barnet midfielder Clovis Kambjo. Welling United’s record reads one win, one draw and one defeat. The loss came on Saturday as Bath came away convincing 3-0 winners, while Dartford are still awaiting their first win of the season. They followed their opening day loss at Wealdstone with home draws against St Albans and Havant.

Off the field, Maidstone have decided to reinstate segregation at home games after just one game without it following their relegation. After their opening day defeat against Weymouth, chief executive Bill Williams wrote on the club’s website: “Given the large number of people our safety team felt safety could have been jeopardised. Following a debrief, the club has decided all future home games will be segregated. Bragging rights are a badge of pride and while we still want that to remain, we feel the positives of segregation and supporter safety outweigh the alternative.

A Havant and Waterlooville fan has made a full recovery after collapsing during their game at Hampton last Tuesday. The emergency meant the second half of the game had to be delayed. Havant have thanked Hampton for their help and support, adding “The good news is he has made a full recovery. His friend says he is back to his cantankerous ways.”

The bookmakers have Billericay Town as favourites to win the league, with no bookie offering more than 4/1 on them becoming champions. They’re followed by Havant, Bath and Dulwich.

ACADEMY & YOUTH TEAMSOur Kent Youth League managers give their thoughts for the coming season.

Steve Turner, Under 14s

As part of a joint initiative, Tonbridge Juniors and Tonbridge Angels want to create an alliance for Youth Development with the aim of creating a pathway of excellence from Grassroots football. This season will see the first of these teams represent Tonbridge Angels at Under 14. The team will be competing in the Kent Youth League and will be playing the North Division. It will be tough but the squad are looking forward to the challenge. The aim for this season is to develop and build a competitive squad with the long term goal of improving each season and hopefully supplying Tonbridge Angels Academy with players of the future.

The core of team has come together over several years but a larger squad was needed. After a series of trials we offered places to five strong players, Archie Gardner, George Rayner, Harvey Bennett, Jack Baker and Barney Moth. They will be joined in the squad by regulars Aaron, Hayden, Louie, Joe, Harry, Cameron, Josh N, Josh M, Dillon, Tyler, James, Liam and Harrison.

By adding these players we hope that the increased competition for places will create a very competitive team. We have also signed up a further three development players (Morgan, Ben and Thomas), who we will hopefully look to bring into our match day squad later in the season.

Dominic Welsh, Under 15s

After a rebuilding season at Under 14s, the now Under 15s are making their mark. Five new players through the spine is the team, two strikers, one centre midfield and a centre back see the team’s quality improve throughout. A larger squad of 18 should see us compete better throughout the season, adding strength in depth. We have only just kicked off our pre-season drawing 3-3 with a very strong Hastings United and a defeat to AFC Mottingham. We have had two 5-0 wins and a 1-0 win in the end of season friendlies and at full strength shown that this season is a more hopeful one. Watch out, because we may just be the dark horses this season!! New signing Fin Hartley could be a player to watch, and will certainly add much needed goals to our game! A strong division including Sevenoaks, Ebbsfleet and

Maidstone, in which we aim for top four with the new talent and foundations set. Managers Dom and coach Bayley Colbran are very optimistic and excited about the season ahead.

Todd Tyrie, Under 16s

The summer started with a five-day trip to Holland and Belgium where the team competed in the Hageland Cup. The 11-a-side competition began with 32 teams from all over Europe in eight groups. The top teams from each group going into two groups of four to compete in the main event. Having battled through the first day the squad then faced teams from Denmark, Holland and Belgium on Day 2 as well as Stoke, Buckhurst Hill and Bredhurst. The team won all their games to face Buckhurst Hill in the final. The Buckhurst team had strong links with Brentford and had the physical advantage but the Angels took the lead through Billy Kent. With minutes remaining Buckhurst converted a spot kick to take the game to penalties but the Angels boys held their nerve to win 3-2 and spark wild celebrations that continued for the following days in Center Parcs and left the boys with life long memories.

The team then played in two summer tournaments, losing in the final to Langton Green at Tonbridge Juniors and then winning the Ridgewaye tournament with both Angels teams playing each other in the final. Pre-season training is underway and a few of the boys have trained with Tommy Parkinson and the Academy. Nat Gibb also got to enjoy a session with the first team pre-season which was fantastic for the Youth set-up. The team then had an international friendly against a touring team from the USA ‘Illinois the Peoria Chargers’, unfortunately we were to lose Ben Hermitage to a terrible open fracture to his Tibia and Fibia and everyone at the club has been fantastic in supporting Ben.

Two players have joined the squad, Toby Henley from Ebbsfleet and Harry Nott who has played for Angels before but missed a season with injury. The team are also looking to bring in a striker and have several players trialling at the moment. The team would also like to say a massive thank you to RJ Kent Building Services who continue to sponsor the team.
