School Council Elections Today students will bring home ballot papers for our current round of School Council Elections – in the Parent nomination category.

It is pleasing to have parents who are willing to support our school via Council membership, offering their time and energy to be involved in strategic planning and policy development work in particular. Please read the details of how to cast your vote in the envelopes being brought home today.

Helping Your Children to Become Better Writers – VCOP Parent Session: Wednesday 7th March at 2.30pm in the Library We hope parents can join us for this session, which is being prepared by Karyn Bath (Mano Literacy Leader and Grade 2 teacher).

Parents who attend will participate in a range of activities which relate to supporting children to enjoy and improve their writing skills.

Please join us and learn more first-hand about Vinnie Vocabulary, Connie Connectives, Ollie Openers, Penny Punctuation, Talk Homework, Big Writes and Cold Writes.

Refurbishment/Building Program Update Works are progressing on the Junior/Admin building and we anticipate ‘moving back into’ the admin areas during the Easter holiday break.

In the last week of this term, we will be temporarily relocating two classes to the multi for Term 2 – Mrs Orford’s 2O and Mr Santilli’s 2S.

The main entry, reception desk space and new foyer are currently being created, together with roof repairs and staffroom/sick bay refurbishments. The entry to this building will return back to the usual place after Easter.

Casual Clothes Day – Friday 2nd March: Show Your Support for WWF Students are invited to wear an item of ‘animal themed’ clothing tomorrow and donate a gold coin for endangered animal support – to the World Wildlife Fund. Some Middles students are driving this community minded special day and collectively we can make a difference. We suggest students who choose to join in on this event wear a hat, shorts, socks or perhaps a jacket with an animal theme (no AFL footy related clothing please). We thank you in advance for your support of this student planned event.

Juniors Big Day Out – Friday 9th March Planning for this activity has been finalised and I’m confident it will be a memorable one for our Grade 1 and 2s. Supertramp is a wonderful place for kids and our Juniors seem to be very excited about this activity which is only a week away. The later finish on this day for students has been communicated – Grade 1s 4:30pm and Grade 2s 7pm. Parents will be asked to sign their children out when they are collected at these times.

Cultivating Curiosity Curiosity in children makes learning and retaining information easier, and can be a predictor of success in school. We need to ensure that our programs and classroom approaches build curiosity in our students. Our classrooms must have opportunities for interaction with materials, with peers verbally as ideas are shared, that group work is frequent and allows for brainstorming and freewheeling ideas and options. Our teachers prompt students to think in questioning ways and to explore the world around them.

Geelong Cats Visit Mano On Wednesday of this week as part of the ‘Cats in the Community - Healthy Heroes’ Program, Middles students enjoyed the company of Patrick Dangerfield and Lincoln McCarthy from the Geelong AFL men’s team and Kate Darby from the Geelong VFL Cats women’s team. Healthy Heroes is an engaging, interactive and exciting educational program that encourages and inspires students to take positive action to protect and enhance their own health and wellbeing. Through AFL and VFLW role models, students learn the importance of keeping active, eating well, drinking water, reducing screen time and getting a good night’s rest. Thank you Mrs Tickner for organising this visit.
