for over 20 years. He is senior vice president of lending

with Louisiana Land Bank where he has been employed

for 30+ years.

Our own Rotarian Jon Lowe will MC the program on

Tuesday. Jon is a retired 4-H agent and 4-H parish chair

who has served on the Ark-La-

Tex Ag Council, Caddo Parish

Farm Bureau and the State

Fair’s Board of directors.

The James Allen, Jr. Scholarship Award was cre-

ated in 2003 by our late club member Jimmie Allen

and his wife through a bequest to the Rotary Club

of Shreveport Foundation, honoring their deceased

son, James Allen, Jr a Centenary alumnus. The

stipulation of the bequest was that the income be

used to provide an annual scholarship to a deserv-

ing Centenary student.

Each year, we ask the Centenary financial aid di-

rector to assist us in identifying a Centenary student

who clearly exhibits the character traits of scholar-

ship, personal integrity, and a dedication to Service

Above Self, either through extracurricular activi-

ties, career plans, or both.

Rotarian Jimmie passed away on September 28,

2011 and we try to make the presentation each year

to coincide as closely as possible to that date.

Last Tuesday, our scholarship committee chair Alan Prater introduced this year’s recipient of the

$2,000 scholarship, Ms. Katelyn Beaird.

her guest (Wayne Brown) as Renee Petree

looks on.

Alan Prater presented our club’s scholarship check to

Centenary College student, Ms. Katelyn Beaird.
