More than thirty years of experience including overseas, with a job profile of organizing and running design office by inspiring the team to think differently, preparing concept and detailed design for large retail projects like shopping malls, hypermarkets, speciality stores commercial complexes, high rise apartments, administrative complexes, five-star hotels, super-speciality hospitals, medical colleges, industrial buildings, self-contained industrial townships.

Skilled in preparing convincing design presentations to the clients and has a proven track record of client servicing with understanding / honouring of the business model. Won many design competitions.

Teaching being a passion, takes effort whenever it is possible to train people in architecture. Always encouraging & training students to think beyond normal, where sky is the limit. This kind of a design approach nurtures unconventional ideas. Till last session, I was a visiting faculty of design for the final year students of architecture in Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

Lead the design studio of WS Atkins India Pvt. Ltd. (a subsidiary of WS Atkins Plc, UK) at their Bangalore office & also worked as a team member in London office of WS Atkins.

Worked as General Manager (Architecture) for heading design office of Asian Health Services (a subsidiary of Service Master, USA), Bangalore.

Was infrastructure & design head with Reliance Retail Ltd for Eastern & Southern India & responsible for interior design/coordination & project management of Hypermarkets, various specialty stores, shopping malls etc including rollout of brand shops.

Was Lead Architect & project Manager in Bardury Consulting Services, Bahrain but was forced to return to India due to recession.

A BRIEF JOURNEY THROUGH MY WORK

THE GOLD SOUK, KOCHIDesign, detailing & project coordination of a competition winning Jewelry Mall In Kochi depicting femininity in design.

Visual connectivity through exploration of spaces/brands.

LULU SHOPPING MALL, KOCHIConcept design for one of the largest mall in India. Total mall area is 12 lakh sft. The development contains a hotel also.

Central entrance concept to bring in easy accessibility to hyper-market & other shops.

FIRST INDIA PLACE, GURGAONA modern office complex designed in line with European built

environment. Promoted by TCG Developments, UK.

Atrium with an elliptical form blended in a rectangle to give relief to rigidity.

ESSAR STEEL ACADEMY, HAZIRAOn a 15 acre land near their Sponge Iron Plant, Essar Steel intended to build an engineering college to cater to the steel industry.

The design challenge was to make the built environment more corporate (for the buyers of sponge iron from abroad) but at the same time, student friendly.

Formal character of the corporate image is the face of the design, but at the rear it is more informal and student friendly in terms of planning & structure.

INTEGRATED HABITAT CENTRE, GHAZIABADA mixed use development in line with India Habitat Centre but with commercial development including a shopping mall.

Multi-faceted areas planned to cater to crowds with various moods/interests.

LOKHANDWALA SCHOOL, KANDIVILIA higher secondary school designed with central courtyard but a total deviation

from the common built form of a school. Total builtup area is 75000 sft.

ESSAR STEEL ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING, HAZIRAConcept and detailed design of ancillary buildings in sponge iron plant of ESSAR Steel.

CLOCKTOWER APARTMENTS, AZERBAIJANDetailed design of an upmarket apartment complex in Baku,

Azerbaijan. Total area of construction was 12 Lakh Sq Ft.

Key aspects in the design of this luxurious apartment was striking the right balance between the classical and the modern.

RELIANCE TIME-OUT, BANGALOREDesign co-ordination & project management of a leisure format store in the heart of Bangalore.

BL KAPUR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, DELHISpread on five acres of land, with a capacity of 700 beds, BLK Super Speciality Hospital is one of the largest tertiary care private hospitals in the country. The outpatient services are spread on two floors with 60 consultation rooms. All ambulatory services have been designed with intent to create dedicated aides for all specialities, with their interventional services in close vicinity.

BL KAPUR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, DELHI

The hospital has 17 state-of-the-art well equipped modular operation theatres. The Hospital has one of the biggest critical care programmes in the region with 125 beds in different intensive care units viz Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Paediatrics, Neonatology, Neurosciences and Organ Transplant. All critical care beds are in the close vicinity of the Operation Theatre complex for easy accessibility and continuity of care.

ZAIN TELECOM CALL-CENTRE, ABUJADesign & supervision of construction of a call centre with total carpet area of 85000 sft including coordination of services and data management infrastruc-ture in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

To cope with highly stressful job of handling customers, local flavour in every space is created to make the staff feel at home.

LIGHTING FIXTURE, RELIANCE FRESH STORESA modular lighting fixture for the retail stores that acts as a base

for fixing various attachments like camera and other gadgets.

ZAIN TELECOM RETAIL OUTLET, NIGERIARetail roll-out of 48 Zain Telecom Stores for change in brand from

Celtel, Nigeria.

RELIANCE MART, JAMNAGARDesign co-ordination of a flagship hypermarket for Reliance Retail.

ALLIANZ TAKAFUL, BAHRAINA retail outlet along with a back-office at the Bahrain International

Airport.

MULTISPECIALITY HOSPITAL, MUSCATConcept design for a 300 bedded multispeciality government hospital at Swaiq in Muscat, Oman.

The design approach works around the philosophy to create a different and informal physical environment where the people can connect themselves to a playful and therapeutic built environment that takes them away from their illness.

• While working with WS Atkins, prepared report on value engineering for “First India Place” a commercial project promoted by NRIs’ at Gurgaon, Hary-ana. An overall review of specification and design was done to reduce cost of the project without compromising the quality of aesthetics and functional-ity. The project was conceptualized and designed in the U.K. by Studio U+A.
