except July & August

Greeting Brothers and Friends:

Hopefully warm weather is on the way to stay. Tired of all this crappy weather. The Pretzel Sale is finished and another fine job done by Brother Greg Stewart and his crew. When you see Greg give him a big pat on the back because that is the hardest project we have to coordinate.

We have an EA Degree scheduled for the 27th of April, Would like to see the sidelines full. Makes it impressive for the new Brother to start out. We have 2 more petitions under investigation, so get ready, we have a lot of degree work coming up. We want to get all 3 candidates through before we go dark.

We are coming into a busy portion of our year, June and July are busy months for us. So be expecting phone calls to help out with: The Shriners Dinner at the Fair Parade - July 7th and that is headed up by JW Pat Conklin.

The Fair Watch, July 6th-11th is headed up by SD Cliff Tracy. T

he Texas-hold-em, we have 3 coming up, June 4th-7th, July 8th-11th & Aug 6th-9th headed up by Sec. Guy Gilbert, and our yearly Raffle draw on July 11th that is headed up by SW Guy Cole, tickets will be available just as soon as we get them, which should be very soon. These are where we make our money to keep our dues down. When these are successful it helps our Lodge finances immensely.

Yes we know some of these dates are overlapping, That is why we need A LOT of help. Contact Guy Gilbert at 734-255-3747 or [email protected] for times and phone numbers for the rest of these chairmen. BROTHERS WE NEED YOUR HELP. Even if you have not been able to attend Lodge, try to find some time to help these Brothers have successful projects. None of them are hard work and we have a fun time doing them.

If anybody has moved or changed phone numbers recently please contact Secretary Guy Gilbert with your new information. Also we are trying to put together an Continued page 5 column 2

Greetings Brothers: We have another petition that was read

and the investigation committee will be reporting back soon.

The State of Michigan has provided us with a number for a gaming license and Brother Richard has set up a tentative date for charity poker week end. The dates are July 16, 17 18 & 19 and we could use some help during the 4 evenings that we have it. Richard has a sign up list and is split up into 2 shifts. This is a good money maker as all of the Lodges that could use a little extra money to help with the winter bills. Call me for more information if you would like to help.

Brothers, please SEND YOUR

DUES, if you have not done so already. We would like to have this completed by the end of April 2009.

If anyone needs petitions please call, I will be glade to help. We need to reach out to those qualified men to join our fraternity.

We are trying to grow our email list, so you brothers that have an email address drop us an email to The Secretary ([email protected]). Also keep us up dated if you change your phone number or get a cell phone. Some of you brothers are dropping your land line and only have cell phones now. Please make sure that you can get us the information to keep you informed. We are always updating the roster for you brothers to use. Also, if you have an email address and would like to receive the Masonic news via email instead of snail mail let me know and I will add you to the list. This also saves on postage costs and the on-line Masonic News is sometimes in color.

If you have any suggestions or comments please contact me I would love to hear from you.

Our next Regular Communication will be May 11, 2009 at 7:30pm, Brothers please attend if you are able, and we need your support and would like to see your smiling faces.

Brethren:

Masonry continues to prosper in Ann Arbor. In March, we passed eight brothers to the degree of Fellowcraft and in April we will raise three to the degree of Master Mason (4/22/09, 6:20pm, Hathaway's Hideaway). We will also be holding a bi-lodge Table Lodge on Wednesday, April 29th at the Ann Arbor Masonic Temple. All Masons (of any degree) are welcome to attend. The Table Lodge is an extremely enjoyable event that usually only happens once per year. Please check the trestle board at www.aaf262.org for more details and RSVP information.

In addition to our degree work, there will be increased focus this year on maintaining a balance of our Masonic activities, including fellowship and charity. If you would like to help plan a charity event, please contact me or Bob Hospadaruk.

I would like to congratulate Senior Warden Bob Blackburn for writing a fine article about Masonry in Ann Arbor, which was published in the April edition of the Ann Arbor Observer.

Also, Brother Bob Hospadaruk has shown his artistic side by designing a shirt for the lodge (keep your eyes open for the order form). Thanks to all for the enthusiasm.

For further details on scheduled lodge events, please check the trestle board.

Please keep in your thoughts our Brothers and family who may be in sickness or distress.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Chris Fultz

1st THURSDAY OF THE MONTH, 7:00pm

Greetings, Brethren and Friends, Please mark your calendar for

our Master Mason Degree conferral on Thursday, May 21 at 7:00 PM. We will practice for the MM Degree the previous Thursday, May 14, also at 7:00 PM.

On Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 PM, all Golden Rule members are invited to meet for dinner at the Classic Cup Café, located at 4389 Jackson Rd, between Wagner and Zeeb Rds. The cost to members for a complete dinner including refreshments and dessert will be ten dollars. This occasion will allow us to enjoy fellowship and discuss Masonry and lodge matters in an informal setting. The lodge will hold several more such dinners throughout the remainder of the year, so stay tuned for additional dates.

Golden Rule Lodge will sponsor charity gaming events in June to raise funds for the lodge. These will take place the evenings of June 4-7 and June 16-19 at the Shark Club in Howell. We will need to staff these events with two volunteers on each of the eight evenings. Please contact me at 734-320-2677 if you have any questions or if you might be interested in helping the lodge participate in this substantial fund-raising opportunity. Fraternal regards, Bill Krebaum, W.M.

Pondering Thought I hold in my had a little scrap of paper

2 ½ X 3 ½ inches in size. It is of no intrinsic worth,

Not a bond, not a check or receipt for valuables,

yet it is my most priceless possession. It is my membership card in a Masonic Lodge.

It tells me that I have entered

Into a spiritual kinship with my fellow masons To practice charity in word and deed;

To forgive and forget the faults of my Brethren;

to hush the tongues of scandal and innuendo; to care for the crippled, the hungry and the sick,

and to be fair and just to all mankind.

It tells me that no matter where I may travel in the world, I am welcome to visit a place where good fellowship prevails among Brothers and

Friends. It tells me that my loved ones, my home and my household are under protection of every member

of this Great Fraternity, Who have sworn to defend and protect mine As I have sworn to defend and protect theirs.

It tells me that should I ever be overtaken by adversity or misfortune

Through no fault of my own,

The hands of every Mason on the face of the earth will be stretched forth to assist me in my

necessities.

And finally, it tells me that when my final exit from the stage of life has been made,

There will be gathered around my lifeless body,

Friends and Brothers who will recall to mind my virtues.

Though they be but few, and will forget my faults.

Though they may be many. It tells me that, and a great deal more,

This little card, And makes me proud yet humble, That I can possess this passport

into a Society of Friends and Brothers that are numbered in the Millions.

SO MOTE IT BE!!

Good News, Good News for the Companions!!

York Chapter had several new Brothers receive the Royal Arch Degree a short time ago. We are encouraged that most of them are stepping forward to assist us in our Officer Line and other functions. Working together we can grow and prosper.

We have another Brother who wishes to receive the “TRUE WORD” and therefore we have asked those Companions in the surrounding area to assist us in putting on the Royal Arch Degree on Wednesday, May 13th.

We Need Your Help and Support!!! Please come out. Are you willing to do, or give and

honest effort to attempt to do, a small or large part? Contact either the High Priest David or the Secretary John and let them know of your desires. Wouldn’t it be great if Milan was willing and able to do all of the parts and our visitors could only watch and admire our proficiency.

The next Joint York Rite Southeaster Michigan Association Meeting will be held in Ypsilanti on Monday, June 29th. Washtenaw Chapter No. 6 will be hosting this event. We need to begin attending the Chapter events in the area. It is through this that we can begin to get better attendance at our events and activities.

At this Joint Meeting they will be discussing the upcoming legislation to come before the 3 Grand York Rite Bodies of Michigan. We need to be kept in the know so that we can be more prepared to allow our voices to be heard.

A couple of dates to remember. May 10th – Mother’s Day. Surprise

that special Lady in your life. May 25th – Memorial Day. Take time

out to reflect and thank all who are currently serving to protect you and yours but also all who have done so, so that you can enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy.

Stay safe, happy and healthy.

High Priest Address

Greetings Friends & Companions, Wow!!! It is amazing how fast

everything is going this year. I guess maybe my parents and grandparents were right. Time goes by much faster as you get older. This is when time should slow down a little so that we can enjoy everything a little more.

Allen Christ has again volunteered to step forward and to assume the reigns of Washtenaw Chapter No. 6 for another year, beginning after the May 14th Stated Convocation in Ypsilanti.

Our August 17th meeting will be in Ann Arbor at the Calvary Methodist Church at 1415 Miller Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103 (which is at the southern base of Newport Road). The motion to move was passed at the April Meeting and send to the Grand Chapter for approval. I have spoken with the Grand High Priest and he has stated that he will approve of the move. Now just waiting to receive back the formal paperwork so that it becomes official.

The meetings will again begin at 7 pm and always opened by Chapter, when it is a joint meeting.. We are hopeful that this new meeting place will encourage each of you to again attend our meetings, as we will be back into the local area.

We will be meeting on the 3rd Monday evening for the Business Meetings and the 4th Monday evenings for the Degree Work.

Speaking of Degree Work. We are going to go to Milan, York Chapter 150 on the 13 of May to assist them in putting on the Royal Arch Degree. Let’s plan on being there a little before 7 so that we can help them get set up and make sure that everything is ready. It has been awhile since they have done this degree so they need all of us present to assist and encourage.

On May 21st we will be conducting the Mark Master Mason Degree in Ypsilanti. You still have time to get your petition for the degrees in to either Allen Christ or

myself.

STATED CONCLAVE

1st THURSDAYOF THE MONTH

7:00 PM Joint with Ypsilanti Commandery

Greetings Sir Knights and Ladies!

It’s that time of the year already, or at least close enough to it that we are beginning planning for it. What’s that you say? Commandery’s Annual Inspection.

When? Saturday, August 22nd, 9 am. Where? Ypsilanti Masonic Temple Food? Yep. Following the Inspection Candidate? Yep. George Lucero (guess

we had better get busy and get the rest of the work done prior to that date.)

How? Order of the Red Cross – Thursday, 28 May. 7 pm., Ypsilanti Masonic Temple.

Order of Malta – Rehearsal – Thursday, 18 June. 7 pm, Ypsilanti Masonic Temple.

Order of Malta – Thursday, 25 June, 7 pm, Ypsilanti Masonic Temple.

Those of you in the surrounding Commanderies are welcome and encouraged to bring your candidates along to witness and participate in these Orders with us.

We all have to get our candidates ready. Let’s all work together to get them ready.

Let’s keep working together to strengthen each other and to strengthen the Southeastern Michigan Joint York Rite Association. There next meeting will be in Ypsilanti on Monday, June 29th at the Ypsilanti Masonic Temple. It will be hosted by Washtenaw Chapter. Dinner – 6:15 pm and meeting to follow. During the meeting time is also given for the Southeastern Michigan Battalion Meeting.

There is legislation coming before the various York Rite bodies at their Grand Sessions in August. Need to discuss so that we can vote intelligently on each piece of legislation.

There will be Commandery Drills on Saturday, August 9th of the Grand Conclave. The Battalion would like to participate, however, we need you to assist by marching in the drill team. Only takes a couple of fun practices. What do you say? Are you ready? Step off with your left foot and let’s begin! Contact Jim Hawn at 248 890.9402 or email him at: [email protected] Rehearsals will probably be at the Ypsilanti Masonic Temple on the 1st Sunday of the month around 2 pm. Can enjoy the luncheon that they have at the Ypsilanti Temple from 11 – 2 pm so that you will have plenty of energy for the drills.

Keep a smile on your face and a chuckle in your voice.

Also, to inform the uninformed of what your organization is, what it is doing, whom it is helping, how it is helping.

If YOUR members are not informed of YOUR events and activities, you can not blame them for not attending and supporting you.

Also, you must be positive in your approach! Who wants to attend a negative meeting or gathering? Only those who want to create problems. Masonry does not want to create problems, Masonry wants to alleviate problems.
