“Dr. Tafur's timely book takes us on an enchanted
adventure through the emerging world of Amazonian
shamanism. All along the way, he engages the reader with
personal stories that illuminate his exciting and evolving
p h i l o s o p h y o f m e d i c i n e a n d h e a l i n g . ”
—Andrew Weil, MD, bestselling author of Spontaneous
Healing
Western medicine has not been particularly successful at
getting people relief from conditions like depression,
chronic pain, migraine headaches, addiction, and PTSD. Dr.
Tafur helps us to understand why.
People spend years in frustration and thousands of dollars
consulting an army of specialists, without getting real relief
from their problem—because these and others are diseases
deeply connected with the state of our emotional bodies.
Too often, the Western medical approach fails to address
the emotional dimension of illness. This is where traditional
plant medicines, with their ability to alter consciousness and
open channels of communication to our emotions, offer so
much promise.
Follow Dr. Tafur through the Amazon jungle as he develops
a breakthrough understanding of how psychoactive plants
interact with the complex network connecting our minds
and hearts to our physical anatomy. What is presented here
is nothing short of a paradigm shift for modern medicine,
where sacred plants, used properly in ceremony, take their
place as important tools in the doctor’s medicine chest,
offering the missing elements of emotional and spiritual
healing that have eluded us for so long.

Like many women of her generation, when Heather Lanier
was expecting her first child, she did everything by the
book. She took nutritional supplements, avoided GMOs,
recited affirmations, drew up a birth plan for an
unmedicated labor. Subconsciously, she believed that by
exerting control over every aspect of her pregnancy, she
could create a SuperBaby, a flawless human destined for
a high-achieving future.
But shortly after her daughter Fiona's birth, all of Heather's
preconceptions are challenged in quick succession.
Fiona's small size--four pounds, twelve ounces--alarm the
medical experts. The reactions of others, from the nurse
who asks Heather if she took drugs while pregnant (her
response: "I took superfoods") to the pediatrician who
declares that Fiona's tiny frame is the result of either "bad
soil or bad seed," force Heather to confront a profound
and difficult truth. Not only had she failed to produce a
SuperBaby, she now fiercely loved a child that the world
would sometimes reject.
Fiona's ultra-rare chromosomal condition, Wolf-Hirschhorn
syndrome, turns Heather's world upside down, obliterating
not only her perfectionist tendencies but also some of her
most closely held beliefs about certainty, vulnerability, and
love. She must also confront society's attitudes toward
disability and the often cruel assumptions made about
Fiona's worth and potential. Loving Fiona opens her up to a
new experience of what it means to be human, what it
takes to be a mother, and above all, the aching joy and
wonder that come from fully embracing the unique life of
her rare girl.
Heather Lanier’s essays about raising her daughter have
appeared in Salon, Brevity, Brain,Child, The Sun, Today’s
Parent, America Magazine, and Vela. Based on her essays
about raising a rare girl, Heather will be giving a TED talk in
Milan this October. For over five years, Heather has been
writing a well-received blog, Star in her Eye, about
parenting her daughter, Fiona. Her Vela essay,
“SuperBabies Don’t Cry,” went viral, earning praise from
bestselling authors Steve Silberman, Jessica Valenti, and
Cheryl Strayed, who called it “magnificent.” She earned
her MFA in creative nonfiction from The Ohio State
University. She teaches writing at Southern Vermont
College and lives in Vermont with her husband and two
kids.

Hippocrates stated that walking is the best medicine. For
millennia, walking has been used to inspire, generate, and
rejuvenate creative energy. Scientific and academic
research has since confirmed what Hippocrates,
Beethoven, Thoreau, and Woolf (to name but a few) all
knew instinctively: walking truly is the best medicine. Afoot
and LIghthearted is the first interactive journal that teaches
readers how to harness the power of walking to cultivate
and nourish attention, inspiration, and determination, as
well as combat distraction, anxiety, and the dreaded
creative block.
Organized around thematic prompts designed to help
makers take a break from digital life and tap into the
transformational magic of creative journaling, Afoot and
Lighthearted introduces us to innovative walkers
throughout literature, art, philosophy, and history, and
offers encouragement in the form of inspirational quotes.
Supported by evidence from recent research on the
compelling connection between walking and well-being,
much like a walk itself, Afoot offers a fresh perspective
every step of the way.
Whether via informative strolls through the history of
walking and the creative endeavor, thought-provoking
prompts and open-ended questions, or guided
explorations to embark upon, the reader will rediscover the
vitality of moving through the world, the cathartic process
of journaling, and a sense of joy and wonder bound to
give their ideas legs.
Bonnie Smith Whitehouse, Ph.D., is Professor of English at
Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. For twenty years,
she has taught writing to undergraduate and graduate
students, and for over six years, she has taught an
innovative interdisciplinary course on walking and writing.
When Tennessee’s spring wildflowers are at their peak, she
leads retreats integrating writing and hiking. She lives in
Nashville with her husband and their two sons.

“Cory Allen is a beacon lighting the way to greater
presence.”
—Aubrey Marcus, Onnit CEO and author of the
forthcoming book Own the Day
“Cory teaches us that spirituality is not an esoteric
concept. It’s about waking up in order to taste life to the
fullest.”
—Daniele Bolelli, author of History On Fire
“Cory Allen is one of the finest inner explorers of his day.”
– Hamilton Souther, Blue Morpho Foundation
Renowned meditation teacher and composer Cory Allen's
weekly podcast, The Astral Hustle, has reached hundreds
of thousands of listeners, and his accompanying social
media videos have received over 1 million hits in the past
year alone. He is known as the premier composer of
binaural beats, and both his Binaural Beats series and his
online meditation course, Release Into Now, have been
licensed by performance-optimization lifestyle brand Onnit.
Cory's message is simple: you can wake up to your own life
right now. Too many of us experience spikes of anxiety,
waves of confusion, feelings of inadequacy, and a fear of
the future. When we empower ourselves to examine
inherited conditioning, overlooked programming, and
limiting thought patterns, we can break the cycle and
begin living from the heart in an uncomplicated and
authentic way.
Now is the Way combines the logic of experientially based
knowledge, the mind-expanding insights of metaphysics,
the profound sense of well-being that comes with genuine
self-acceptance, and the irreverence of a fully intact
sense of humor. It's a hip, relatable, secular handbook
designed for anyone who wants to wake up to a fresh,
vibrant experience of life.

stages. This book brings the path of meditation to life.”
—Sharon Salzberg, New York Times bestselling author
of Real Happiness

—Elena Brower, author of Art of Attention
What if one thing you did each day could bring you to
deep joy, peace, insight, and personal transformation? The
Mind Illuminated: A Complete Meditation Guide
Integrating Buddhist Wisdom and Brain Science by
meditation master Culadasa offers you that “one” thing.
Many meditators say they haven’t reached the heights of
the practice, even after reading every book out there. The
Mind Illuminated isn’t just any meditation book; it’s the
foremost guide to developing deeper, more rewarding,
and transformative states of consciousness while
continuing to live and work in our busy world.
Providing step-by-step guidance for every stage of the
meditation path, this uniquely comprehensive guide for a
Western audience combines the wisdom from the
teachings of the Buddha with the latest research in
cognitive psychology and neuroscience. Clear and
accessible, this in-depth practice manual crystallizes the
entire meditative journey into 10 clearly-defined stages.
The book also introduces a new and fascinating model of
how the mind works, and uses illustrations and charts to
help the reader work through each stage. This manual is
an essential read for the beginner to the seasoned veteran
of meditation and can be read from front to back, or used
as a reference guide, choosing chapters as needed based
on the current state of the reader’s practice.
Culadasa (John Yates, Ph.D.) is the director of Dharma
Treasure Buddhist Sangha in Tucson, Arizona and was a
teacher of physiology and neuroscience. A meditation
master with over four decades of experience in the
Tibetan and Theravadin Buddhist traditions, Culadasa has

“A revolutionary book on stock investing (and good
finance in general.”
—Peter Adeney (Mr. Money Mustache)
“For most, investing is both intimidating and complex. JL
Collins, in his patented no-frills and often humorous style,
makes it both approachable and simple. And powerful.
Every investor should read this book and absorb its
wisdom.”
—Jesse Mecham, founder and CEO, You Need a Budget
Since money is the single most powerful tool we have for
navigating this complex world we’ve created,
understanding it is critical. Unfortunately, benign neglect of
things financial leaves you open to the charlatans of the
financial world. These people make investing endlessly
complex because if it can be ma de complex it becomes
more profitable for them, more expensive for us, and we
are forced into their waiting arms.
Here’s an important truth: Complex investments exist only
to profit those who create and sell them. Not only are they
more costly to the investor, they are less effective. The
approach created by Collins and presented in The Simple
Path to Wealth is not only easy to understand and
implement, it is more powerful than any other.
The Simple Path to Wealth covers:
Debt: Why you must avoid it and what to do if you
have it
How to think about money, and the unique way
understanding this is key to building your wealth
What the stock market really is and how it really works
Why the stock market always goes up and why most
people still lose money investing in it
How to invest in a raging bull, or bear, market
What the 4% rule is and how to use it to safely spend
your wealth
What financial independence looks like and how to
have your money support you
JL Collins, blogger at jlcollinsnh.com, is the author of the
hugely influential “Stock Series” (nearly 2 million page views
per year), a veritable Bible for the financial independence
and retire early (FIRE) community and anyone interested in
creating and maintaining wealth simply, easily, and
effectively.
