Flowers on the altar this weekend are sponsored by Dan & Terri Denkinger in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary; and by Kevin & Beth Bonderson in thanksgiving and praise for all the freedoms we enjoy. Lift up Dylan Connor Norgelas, son of Ryan & Sara Norgelas (grandson of Terry & Karen Wolfe), who is baptized this weekend at the Saturday evening worship. Dylan’s baptism sponsors are Justin & Kelly Wolfe. Happy Anniversary to Kay & Ellen Curtis as they celebrate 64 years of marriage on July 6; and Birthday Wishes to Wilma Palmer who celebrated her 98th birthday on July 2. God’s blessings to you all! Come join us for Youth Fellowship Time every other Sunday during the summer at 9:45 am in the newly designed room “The Outlet” downstairs. Don’t forget -- there will be donuts and rolls, too! (Look for us TODAY!).
Because of the holiday weekend, home communion kits will be handed out on July 9-10.

Gather Your Donations NOW! Our 6th Annual Garage Sale to benefit Bright Horizons, a local agency to support victims of domestic violence, will be held in the Fellowship Hall on July 8th from 9am-6pm. We will be taking donations for the sale on July 6 from 12-
7pm and July 7 from 9am-12pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will graciously accept any of your gently used items, except adult clothing. This annual event has become very popular in the community, and your continued support has been a huge factor in that. The Garage Sale is a tremendous fundraiser for Bright Horizons and they rely on these funds every year to keep their doors open. Supporting this event is fulfilling our mission of Loving God...Loving People...Reaching Out!

HERE WE GO AGAIN! VBS 2016 A great part of the success of last year’s VBS was due to the generous donations we were able to collect. This year many

GOD’S WORK, OUR HANDS Community Day of Service
St. John’s will join other ELCA churches across the U.S. again this year in God’s Work Our Hands Sunday. With the date of the event this year on 9-11, the ELCA is encouraging churches to reach out to and thank first responders in their communities (Law Enforcement, Firefighters) for all they do each & every day in service to us. There will be a variety of mission projects available to sign up to help with on Sept. 11th. The projects will be both inside and outside, with projects suitable for all ages. More than 100 people from St. John’s participated in this event last year. Let’s make this year even better!!
Yellow T-Shirts will be available to buy soon. Price of the shirt is $10 and will be available to purchase until August 7.
Have you seen Joseph? Rumor has it that his brothers sold
him into slavery and he’s ended up in
Egypt. By an incredible twist of fate, he’s become
second in command to Pharoah! If you (or someone you
think would be perfect for the task) would like to impersonate this dream-
interpreting fellow for five days starting on Sunday, July 31, please contact
Jolene as soon as possible.

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
June 15, 2016
The St. John’s Council continued discussion of a
mission/vision statement. Pastor David pointed out
that we are living out our mission but it is not
articulated. The council will continue thinking about
and discussing this important part of our
congregation’s profile with the intention of seeking
the input of our new senior pastor.
The Ministry Site Profile changes were described
and discussed. An added emphasis on Youth and
Family Ministry and an explanation of the
Mission/Vision Statement process were included in
the rewrite. Some parts of the profile were also
rewritten to express the congregation’s focus more
clearly. The updated MSP has now been submitted
to the synod office for distribution to potential
candidates.
Additional time was spent on reports about God’s
Work, Our Hands Sunday on September 11th, a
Synod Assembly report from Ron Lofgren, and some
discussion about the plans for 50 Years on the Hill
on December 11th.
A complete copy of the minutes is available by mail
or email by contacting the church office.
