Osteotomies around the knee are regaining popularity. Good long-term results can be achieved if the correct indications are respected and technical failures are avoided. Plate-fixators (TomoFix) have made these procedures easier and safer. This course is focused on new developments in knee osteotomy. The main topics are:
– The indications for osteotomy around the knee
– The correct planning respecting joint lines, mechanical and anatomical axes and the weight-bearing line
– The technique of distal femur and proximal tibia osteotomy using plate-fixators
– The correction of valgus and varus deformity as well as extension/flexion and rotation deformity
– The indication of knee osteotomy in ligament instability
– The correction of intra-articular deformity, especially in posttraumatic cases
Goal of the course Course description
– Understand the normal and pathological bony anatomy of the leg and the indications for osteotomy
– Be able to perform the correct planning of an osteotomy around the knee
– Know the exposures for knee osteotomies, their difficulties and specific risks
– Be familiar with the techniques of intraarticular osteotomies and osteotomies to treat knee instability
– Understand the specific application of plate-fixators (TomoFix) for knee osteotomies
– Be able to manage intraoperative and postoperative complications associated with knee osteotomies
– Know the important details of postoperative care after knee osteotomy
– Be Familiar with the indication and surgery techniques of some of the common osteotomies of Proximal Femur, Distal Humerus and Distal Tibia
