THE 45th ANNUAL MEETI NG of the AMERICAN ACADEMY OF CHILD AND AD OLES- CENT PSYCHIATRY will be held October 27 -Novembe r 1, 1998, at the Anaheim Hilton, in Anaheim, California. Review and proceedings abstract prop osals are prerequisites for acceptance of pre sentat ions for any papers, workshops, symposia, institutes, or new research posters. Topics may include: normal development, pediatrics and consultatio n/liaison, service descripti on s, train ing issues, biological psychiatry, emotio nal or neurotic disorders, d iagno sis, tre atment , cross-cultural programs, community psychiatry, and research. Abstract prop osals must be received by AACAP by March 3, 1998, or by July 1, 199 8, for new research . The submission guidelines and appropriate forms are mailed to all memb ers in late December. For more inf ormation, contact the AACAP Meetings Department at (202) 966-7300. Mid- Yea r Institute. The American Academ y of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry will sponsor a 3-day institute on "T he Neurosciences," March 18 -20, 1998, at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Th e Mid-Year Institute immediately precedes the Annual Meeting of the Society of Professors of Chil d and Adolescent Psychiatr y, which will be held Mar ch 20-23 at the Caribe Hilton. Registration i nf ormation is mailed to all Academy memb ers on December 31, or can be obt ained by calling the Meetings Department at (202) 966- 7300 . JAMES COMER MINORI TY RESEAR CH FELLOWSHIP FOR MEDICA LS TUDENTS. Th is Fellowship offers $2, 500 for m inorit y medi cal stu dents [0 work during the summer with a child and adolescent psych iatri c researcher-mentor, plus all related expenses to the Academy's 45th Annual Meetin g, October 27-November I, 1998, in Anaheim, California. Funded through the NIMH , the fellowship encourages outstanding minority medical students to pursue careers in child and adolescent psychiatry research and provides early exposure to state-of-th e-art research on child and adolescent mental disorders. Applications from minority students in accredited US medical schools are due March 1, 1998, and awards will be announced in April. The program sponso rs rnenrored research trainin g in drug abuse and addiction for child and adolescent psychiatrists. The grant provides salary suppo rt for 5 years as well as support for training and trial research. Applications will be accepted in 1997 and 1998. Th e Family Research Consortium, supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, will sponsor a 1998 Summer Institute for family researchers. T he Insti tut e provides a f orum for d issem inati on, evaluat ion , an d d iscussion of important new developments in theory and research design, methods and analysis in the field of family research. The Institute accepts a limited number of both junior and senior researchers as participants and allows for intellectual exchange among participants and presenters in addition to the more structured program of high-quality presenta- tions. Minority family researchers are part icularly encouraged to participate. T he Institute will be held at T he Inn at Semi-ah-rnoo in Blaine, Washington from June 27-30, 1998. Co-Chairs for the 1998 Institute are Marion Forgatch and Howard Markman. Deadline for applying is Monday, March 23, 1998.
