Announcements and Opportunities Sunday, March 24, 2019 3400 Michigan Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45208-2102 513.321.2573 knox.org Wi-Fi: Knox-Public Password: welcometoknox Join us tonight for “An Evening in the Holy Land” What’s the difference be- tween a trip and a pilgrim- age? Join us in the Social Hall this evening at 6:30pm and find out! Earlier this year a group of Knox members, led by Jana Reister, journeyed to the Holy Land. We'd like to share that experience and the impact it had and continues to have on our lives--and can have on yours, too. You'll hear from several of the Knox Holy Land pilgrims (with plenty of time for questions and answers) and participate in a worship service similar to what the pilgrims experienced each day on their trip. A limited number of dinners are available ($10) if you did not preregister, or you may simply join us at 7:00pm for the program. Welcome to Knox! We’re glad you chose to worship with us this morning. Knox is an open and affirming place where all are welcome! Please ask an usher for a visitor’s brochure, and check out our website, knox.org, for all the ways you can grow in faith, and learn and serve God with us.

Family Easter egg hunt, dinner set for April 12 It’s a family “eggstravaganza!” You and your kids (and grand-kids) are invited to an early evening filled with holiday fun, in-cluding a ginormous Easter egg hunt, dinner and more! It’s all set for Friday, April 12, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Social Hall. You can register at knox.org or by calling the church at 513-321-2573.

Lenten evening dinner and study continues Wednesday evenings Even if you missed the first session of our annual Lenten dinner and study, please join us Wednesday evening, March 27, as we continue our exploration of Richard Rohr’s book, Breathing Under Water: Spirit-uality and the Twelve Steps. Following a dinner at 6:00pm in the Social Hall, Jana Reister will lead us from 6:30pm to 7:30 pm in a study and discussion of the book that delves into paradoxes of the spiritual path: how we suffer to get well, surrender to win, die to live, give it away to keep it. Please register on-line at knox.org, or by calling the church at 513-321-2573 so we can have an accu-rate count for dinner ($8/adult, $5/child). Childcare provided. Reading the book is encouraged but not mandatory. Books are available in the Church Office or at Coffee & Conversation for $12. It’s also available on Amazon.

“Meet a Mystic” continues through April 14 Frederick Buechner wrote, "Mysticism is where religions start. Moses with his flocks in Midian, Bud-dha under the Bo tree, Jesus up to his knees in the waters of the Jor-dan...religions start...with a lump in the throat." Do those words ring true for you? Join us Sunday mornings during Lent through April 14 as Becky Bosarge guides us in an exploration of Christian Mysti-cism through the writings of mystics from different eras. We meet at 10:00am in the Session Room. All are welcome!

Adam, Jana, Knox elders attend NEXT Church annual gathering Last week Knox pastors Adam Fronczek and Jana Reister, along with Elders Kerry Duke, Jennifer James, Carol Philpott, and Karen Wirthlin, attended the NEXT Church 2019 National Gathering. NEXT Church's vision is to strengthen the rela-tional fabric of the Presbyterian Church (USA) by cultivating congregations and leaders who work in sustained, effective, and faithful ways to promote God's transformation of our communities for

the common good. Adam is a current co-chair of the NEXT Church movement, along with Rev. Shavon Starling Louis. Rev. Starling Louis was the conference preacher when our youth attended Montreat last summer, and she will visit Knox to preach this coming summer. Nearly 600 Presbyterian leaders attended this year's gathering in Seattle, WA, and next year's National Gathering will take place March 2 to March 4 right here in Cincinnati! Watch a series of videos of the National Gathering at nextchurch.net/gathering/watch-now.

Help Knox host homeless families in April Knox will host a number of homeless families at the church during the week of April 7-14, 2019 through our mission partner, the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) of Greater Cincinnati. While many Knox members already have generously volun-teered to help out, we still have available opportunities for ac-tivity hosts and overnight hosts. No experience required. You can sign up on the Knox website, or contact Betsy Warwick at [email protected].

MEAC needs personal care products Knox mission partner the Madisonville Education and Assistance Center (MEAC) is in need of personal care products ( shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes) and paper towels. Dona-tions can be placed in the MEAC basket located near the Michigan Avenue desk. MEAC will use our donations in the MEAC pantry, which is then opened to local families who can 'shop' for their needs.

Save the date: Stephen Ministry reunion If you are a current or former Stephen Minister at Knox, save Tuesday, April 23, for a Stephen Ministry Reunion! Join your col-leagues in ministry from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Social Hall for an evening of worship, reflection, conversation, sharing our wis-dom, and meeting your Congregational Care Coordinator, Becky Bosarge. Email Becky at [email protected] to RSVP or to ask questions.

Knox Preschool hosts session on literary practices for kids Knox Preschool is excited to host Dr. John Hutton, an author, book store owner and pedi-atrician at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Dr. Hutton will speak on April 9 at 6:30pm on Best Reading and Literacy Practices for Tod-dlers and Preschoolers. Dr. Hutton is the Direc-tor of the Reading & Literacy Discovery Center at Children’s.  Coffee and dessert will be served, and childcare will be provided.

Join us each week for Coffee & Conversation between services

Meet Knox friends old and new each week at 10:00am in the Social Hall as we gather for Coffee & Conver-sation. There’s al-ways plenty of hot Joe, and even more great con-versation. If your family, group or committee would like to host a C&C, let Jeannette Jones know by emailing her at [email protected]. Let’s give a hand to the Knox Mission & Social Concerns committee for hosting this week! (clap-clap-clap).

Book group reads “City of Thieves” If you enjoy reading the latest books—and discussing them with friends—then you need to join the Knox Book Group! Our April 11 meeting will center on City of Thieves, the 2008 historical fiction novel by David Benioff. This coming of age story is set in the World War II Siege of Leningrad. It follows the two youths as they desperately search for a dozen eggs at the behest of a Soviet officer, a task which takes them behind enemy lines. We meet at 7:00pm at the home of Gayle nextchurch.net/gathering/watch-now/ Jackson, 3856 Chimney Hill Drive, Blue Ash. Women's Study Group studies the stories of Jacob The Women's Study Group will be talking about the stories of Jacob, both his rise and fall, using Karen Armstrong's insightful book, “In The Beginning: A new Interpretation of Genesis.” We meet on the first and third Monday of each month from 10:00am until noon in the Library. Copies of the book are available in the office of Tina Hubert. Please join us! Prayer labyrinth at Knox April 7-14 When most people think of a labyrinth, they envision a maze with dead ends, tricks and a puzzling path. But a prayer laby-rinth—like the one that will be in the Social Hall from April 7 through April 14—is something far different. Walking a prayer labyrinth is a metaphor for our lives as a journey or pilgrimage. Walking it, meditating and praying as we travel, it may seem that we are nearing the center of the labyrinth, only to find we are being sent out wide in an unexpected direction. Instruc-tions on how to get the most out of the labyrinth will be availa-ble in the Social Hall, and no registration is required. The laby-rinth will be open throughout business hours during the week and whenever the church is open on weekends and the Social
