REMINDER: Nominations for JHM Office of Diversity & Inclusion Achievers Award We are pleased to continue the Achievers Award Program recognizing and highlighting underrepresented minorities
across Johns Hopkins Medicine who exemplify excellence and exhibit our Johns Hopkins core values. Recipients of
these awards will be recognized during Asian/Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in the month of May.
Please take a moment to nominate a deserving colleague for this award. The nomination period will run through
March 27, 2020. If you are interested in collaborating with our office to plan the recognition event for
May, please contact us at [email protected].
REMINDER: The Meyer-Beers Essay Contest The JHSPH Mental Health Grad Network, in partnership with the Hopkins Disability Health Coalition and funded by
the 10x20 Grant, is pleased to announce the inaugural Meyer-Beers Essay Contest. See the attached flyer, and the full
guidelines can be found at tinyurl.com/meyerbeers. Deadline is March 29th.
Women in STEM Symposium – April 4th Women of Whiting, a graduate student organization supporting women and underrepresented minorities in STEM at
Johns Hopkins University, is hosting its third annual Women in STEM Symposium on Saturday, April 4th from
8 AM - 5 PM in Turner Concourse (JHU East Baltimore Campus). Registration is free and open to all! The symposium will feature leaders from academia, government, and industry in two morning sessions and afternoon breakout
workshops that focus on providing professional development skills, as well as a mini-career fair, a networking session,
and a poster session. Free lunch will be provided! Poster abstract submission deadline: Sunday, March 29th, 2020 at 11:59PM EST. Symposium registration deadline: Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 11:59PM EST.
School of Medicine Dean’s Distinguished Mentoring Award Presentation and Lecture The fifth annual School of Medicine Dean’s Distinguished Mentoring Award Lecture will take place on
Thursday, April 16, from 4 to 5 p.m. in The Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Chevy Chase Bank Auditorium.
This year’s recipient of the Distinguished Mentoring Award is University Distinguished Service Professor Emerita
Catherine DeAngelis, a pioneer in efforts to advance women in medicine. She will receive her award at the event,
and a lecture in recognition of her achievements will be given by Richard Besser, president and CEO of the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation. A reception will follow the lecture.
Grant for Researchers at Minority Serving Institutions The Minority Research Grant Program just released a Notice of Funding Opportunity for HBCUs,
HSIs, AANAPISIs, and TCUs. Administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority
Health (CMS OMH), the Minority Research Grant Program is excited to release a notice of funding opportunity for
researchers at minority serving institutions (MSIs). This funding opportunity will allow MSI faculty and students a way
to build their portfolios while funding studies pertinent to the health care needs of racial and ethnic minorities, rural
residents, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ community. Two awards will be made to one or more eligible

REMINDER: Community Kids Closet to support residents of Baltimore City housing
The Hopkins Diaspora ERG Community Subcommittee is sponsoring an on-going Community Kids Closet to provide
gently used clothing, shoes, and winter coats for children who live in Baltimore City housing. Please see the attached
flyer and please contact the ERG Community Subcommittee co-chair, Tamala Knox for more information.
