What is 4-H Cloverbuds? Just like the 4-H program for older youth, the purpose of the 4-H Cloverbuds is to help young children learn life skills to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens. Specifically, Cloverbuds are youth who are 5-8 years old based on 4-H age.

What is 4-H age? This is your child’s age as of January 1 of the current 2019-2020 program year. For example, a child that is currently four that turns five before January 1, 2020 will be considered a 5 year old for the program year and eligible to join Cloverbuds.

What are the goals of the 4-H Cloverbuds program? The primary goal of the Cloverbuds program is to promote children’s healthy development—mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. The Cloverbuds program provides an excellent opportunity for children to reach their highest potential because early life experiences, even subtle ones, affect future development. • Learn more about themselves and the world around them • Develop positive attitudes about learning new things by hands-on involvement • Develop a relationship with a caring adult or older youth helper • Learn about the 4-H Youth Development program

AEROSPACE CLUB Our next club meeting will be on Thursday, November 7 on the upper level of the Enrichment Center from 7:00-8:00 pm. Shipping companies interested in drone delivery have not been the only ones tracking the progress of racing drones using artificial intelligence. Come join us to see what the military is doing with drones lately, and see a brief history of military drones all the way back to World War I! We will also show how easy it is to make items for aerospace, like drone parts and model rockets with a 3D printer. We will have a printer, several of our micro drones, our coding drone, and two flight simulators for use as well. Please email us at [email protected] for details and any questions. New members are welcome year round.

ART & PHOTO CLUB Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 21 on the upper level of the Enrichment Center from 7:00-8:00 pm. We will be going over how to take great photos of your family at holiday gatherings and how to get good shots of outdoor holiday lights. We will have plenty of lights set up to practice with, so feel free to bring a camera or you can use ours. For our art portion, we will be doing a make-and-take project starting with creating marbled paper. We'll show how to incorporate the marbled paper into thank you notes that can be used after the holidays. New members are welcome any time of year and there is no fee to join or for materials used. Please email us at [email protected] with any questions.

SHARPSHOOTERS We train youth ages 9-18 how to properly use .22 sporting rifle, 12 and 20 gauge shotgun, archery, and for those 12 and older pistol. We have eleven outdoor shoots starting in April. Our indoor meetings start on Thursday, November 14 at the Extension Office. Please arrive by 6:45 pm to sign in. Parents of prospective new members must attend a parent informational session at their first meeting. Please email us at [email protected] before coming so we can send our club information tip sheet to you ahead of time so you can determine if this club will be a good fit for your child. The rest of our indoor meetings will be at the Enrichment Center. New and returning members must attend a minimum of three indoor meetings but may attend all six. New members are required to attend both of the mandatory safety meetings held on February 13 and March 12 in order to be able to join.

EXPLORING OUTDOORS CLUB Our club will be taking a holiday break for the months of November and December. Our next meeting will take place on January 20, 2020 at 6:30 pm.

WIGGLES AND WAGS DOG CLUB

At our last meeting, we had a Halloween dog parade with the kids, and the dogs dressed up and marched

around the building. We passed out candy and had a Halloween party. We also welcomed several new members into the club. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 pm at the Extension Enrichment Center, Room 1. Please join us as we

will be making dog-themed picture frames. We will also be discussing electing new officers, so start thinking about that if you are interested in running for a position. We hope you can join us! If you would like more information about our club, please contact Robin Huddleston at [email protected] or at 859-512-8505.

The first Thanksgiving was held in the autumn of 1621 and included 50 Pilgrims, 90 Wampanoag Native Americans, and lasted three days.

Thanksgiving didn't become a national holiday until over 200 years later! Sarah Josepha Hale convinced President Lincoln in 1863 to make it so, after writing letters for 17 years campaigning for it to happen.

Campbell’s Soup created green bean casserole for an annual cookbook over 50 years ago. It now sells

$20 million worth of cream of mushroom soup. Thanksgiving is the reason for TV dinners! In 1953, Swanson had so much extra turkey (260 tons) that a salesman told them they should package it into aluminum trays with other sides like sweet potatoes—

and the first TV dinner was born! The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924 with 400 employees marching from Convent Avenue to 145th Street in New York City. No large balloons were at this parade, as it featured only live animals from the Central Park Zoo.
