El Papa Francisco pide a los católicos y a los santuarios

marianos de todo el mundo dedicar el rezo del santo Rosario

del mes de mayo por el fin de la pandemia de Covid-19.

Aquí, en San Benito nos uniremos a esta noble petición con

nuestro santo Rosario de lunes a viernes a las 5:45 pm.

Todos son bienvenidos a unirse a nosotros en la iglesia, pero

si no pueden, les animamos a rezar el rosario en sus hogares.

SOLEMNIDAD DE LA ASCENSIÓN DE NUESTRO SEÑOR

El 13 de mayo, Solemnidad de la Ascensión de Nuestro

Señor, tendremos misa a las 12 pm en inglés y a las 7 pm en

español. También tendremos la Adoración Eucarística

después de la Misa de las 12 pm hasta las 6:45 pm.

CAMPAÑA CATOLICA

La paroquia tiene un total de $7,545, el 37% de la meta de

$17,000 para la Campaña Católica Annual. En los sobres de

colaboración mensual del mes de mayo, encontrarás un

sobre para la Campaña Católica Anual. Estaremos

recogiendolos este fin de semana y el próximo. Su donación

tiene un impacto inmediato en nuestra parroquia y el trabajo

PRAY THE ROSARY TO END COVIND-19 PANDEMIC

Pope Francis is urging all Catholics and Marian Shrines

around the world to dedicate the month of May to a

marathon of prayer for an end to the Covid-19

pandemic. Here at St. Benedict’s we will be

responding to Pope Francis’ prayer request by

dedicating the rosary prayed Monday through Friday at

5:45pm to end the pandemic. All are welcome to join

us in the church, but if you are not able, we encourage

you to pray the rosary in your homes.

SOMEMNITY OF THE ASCENTION OF OUR LORD

On May 13, the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our

Lord, we will have Mass at 12pm in English and 7pm in

Spanish. We will also have Eucharistic Adoration after

the 12pm Mass until 6:45pm.

CATHOLIC APPEAL

The parish has raised $7,545 to date 37% of the

$17,000 Catholic Appeal goal. In the May parish

monthly envelope mailing, there will be an envelope

for the Catholic Appeal. We will be collecting them at

all Masses this weekend and next weekend. Your gift

has an immediate impact on our parish and the work

of our Church. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Queridos feligreses, ¡Jesucristo ha resucitado! ¡Verdaderamente ha resucitado! Con este fin de semana iniciamos el mes de mayo, y con él, nuestra filial devoción a nuestra madre, la Virgen María que, ciertamente, nos ayudará a prepararnos para la celebración de Pentecostés y la Santísima Trinidad. Te mantendremos informado sobre la normativa sanitaria que nos permitirá asumir la nueva realidad pospandémica. Por lo pronto, nos unimos en la oración y en la acción para, juntos, agradecer el don de la vida y protegerla, pues la vida de cada uno es un don precioso del amor de Dios. Como indicábamos la semana pasada,, el mes de mayo está lleno de solemnidades y fiestas. Entre ellas destacan: la Ascensión del Señor el 13 de mayo (tendremos eucaristía en inglés al mediodía, seguida de Adoración eucarística y nuestra acostumbrada eucaristía a las 7pm); Vigilia de oración y alabanza en la víspera de Pentecostés el 22 de mayo luego de la eucaristía; Solemnidad de Pentecostés el 23 de mayo; Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad el 30 de mayo con Adoración eucarística a las 5pm. Aprovechemos estos momentos para participar tanto en las celebraciones como en las actividades organizadas. En comunión de oraciones los unos por los otros y con la Virgen María, nuestra Madre. Dear Parishioners, Christ is risen! He is truly risen! We begin this weekend, the month of May, and with it our filial devotion to our mother, the Virgin Mary, who will certainly help us prepare for the celebration of Pentecost and the Most Holy Trinity. We will keep you informed on the health regulations that will allow us to assume the new post-pandemic reality. For now, we unite in prayer and action to be grateful for the gift of life and protect it, since the life of each one is a precious gift of God's love. As we indicated last week, the month of May is full of solemnities and feasts. These include: the Ascension of Our Lord on May 13 (we will have Eucharist in English at 12:00pm, followed by Eucharistic Adoration and our daily Eucharist at 7pm); Vigil of prayer and praise on the eve of Pentecost on May 22 at 7:15pm; Solemnity of Pentecost day after on May 23; Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity on May 30 with Eucharistic Adoration at 5pm. Let's take advantage of these moments to participate in both the celebrations and the organized activities. In communion of prayers for each other and with the Virgin Mary, our mother. Good morning!

Prayer is dialogue with God; and every creature, in a certain sense, “dialogues” with God. Within the human being, prayer becomes word, invocation, hymn, poetry… The divine Word is made flesh, and in each person’s flesh the word returns to God in prayer.

We create words, but they are also our mothers, and to some extent they shape us. The words of a prayer get us safely through a dark valley, lead us towards green pastures rich in water, and enable us to feast in the presence of an enemy, as the Psalm teaches us (cf. Ps 23). Words are born from feelings, but there is also the reverse path, whereby words shape feelings. The Bible educates people to ensure that everything comes to light through the word, that nothing human is excluded, censored. Above all, pain is dangerous if it stays hidden, closed up within us... Pain that is closed up within us, that cannot express or give vent to itself, can poison the soul. It is deadly.

This is why Sacred Scripture teaches us to pray, sometimes even with bold words. The sacred writers do not want to deceive us about the human person: they know that our hearts also harbour unedifying feelings, even hatred. None of us is born holy, and when these negative feelings come knocking at the door of our hearts, we must be capable of defusing them with prayer and with God’s words. We also find very harsh expressions against enemies in the Psalms — expressions that the spiritual masters teach us are to be di-rected to the devil and to our sins — yet they are words that belong to human reality and ended up in the riverbed of the Sacred Scriptures. They are there to testify to us that if, in the face of violence, no words existed to make negative feelings harmless, to channel them in such a way that they do no harm, then the world would be overwhelmed. Queridos hermanos y hermanas, ¡buenos días!

La oración es diálogo con Dios; y toda criatura, en un cierto sentido, “dialoga” con Dios. En el ser humano, la oración se convierte en palabra, invocación, canto, poesía… La Palabra divina se ha hecho carne, y en la carne de cada hombre la palabra vuelve a Dios en la oración.

Las palabras son nuestras criaturas, pero son también nuestras madres, y de alguna manera nos modelan. Las palabras de una oración nos hacen atravesar sin peligro un valle oscuro, nos dirigen hacia prados verdes y ricos de aguas, haciéndonos festejar bajo los ojos de un enemigo, como nos enseña a recitar el salmo (cfr. Sal 23). Las palabras esconden sentimientos, pero existe también el camino inverso: ese en el que las palabras modelan los sentimientos. La Biblia educa al hombre para que todo salga a la luz de la palabra, que nada humano sea excluido, censurado. Sobre todo, el dolor es peligroso si permanece cubierto, cerrado dentro de nosotros… Un dolor cerrado dentro de nosotros, que no puede expresarse o desahogarse, puede envenenar el alma; es mortal.

Por esta razón la Sagrada Escritura nos enseña a rezar también con palabras a veces audaces. Los escritores sagrados no quieren engañarnos sobre el hombre: saben que en su corazón albergan también sentimientos poco edificantes, incluso el odio. Ninguno de nosotros nace santo, y cuando estos sentimientos malos llaman a la puerta de nuestro corazón es necesario ser capaces de desactivarlos con la oración y con las palabras de Dios. En los salmos encontramos también expresiones muy duras contra los enemigos —expresiones que los maestros espirituales nos enseñan para referirnos al diablo y a nuestros pecados—; y también son palabras que pertenecen a la realidad humana y que han terminado en el cauce de las Sagradas Escrituras. Están ahí para testimoniarnos que, si delante de la violencia no existieran las palabras, para hacer inofensivos los malos sentimientos, para canalizarlos para que no dañen, el mundo estaría completamente hundido.

Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe for the Protection from Coronavirus

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.

We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,

as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world,

and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared

the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted, we ask you

to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those

who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one

another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus

to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us

always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
