550th Celebration of Birthday Celebration of Gurunank

Dev Ji: A cultural Meet

Gurpurab is a celebration based on the lives of the Sikh gurus. It is also known

as GURU’S REMEMBRANCE DAY. The Gurus practiced what they taught.

They preached their followers the sweetness of humility, modesty, compassion,

the necessity of bravery, freedom and justice. According to the Sikh belief, people

do meditation and perform noble deeds and then pray to God for His benevolence

and charity. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikh religion, led the humanitarian

approach forward by asking the devotees to tread on the path of three attributes

namely- ’KIRT KARO’, NAAM JAPO’ & ’VAND CHAKO’. Both meditation

and noble deeds are a prerequisite of an ideal life.

Narula Institute of Technology celebrates the 550th birth anniversary of the first

Sikh Guru,Guru Nanak dev ji today on 11th November,2019 at the campus along

with all the faculty, staff members and the students. The celebration aims to create

a sense of belongingness and to create a secular atmosphere in the campus.

Kirtan and Shabad were sung linking everyone present with one God-the Wahe

Guru followed by Ardaas or prayer to Waheguru for his protection and care,a plea

for the welfare and prosperity of all mankind and distribution of Kada Prasad to

everyone. A live portrait of Shri Nanak ji was also drawn by a student.

Our students also served Guru Ka Langar to all and everyone ate the same food

irrespective of their caste or creed. It is usually distributed as a selfless service to

humanity keeping the adage ’SARBAT DA BHALA’ in mind, obeisance to

Almighty is offered before serving langar.

May the Almighty bless all with good health, peace and prosperity. Sab Nu

Gurupurab diyaa Lakh Lakh Vadhaiyaan!!

68 | P a g e

With the nationwide lockdown in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this

virtual farewell let us acknowledge our memories and talk about things. This

might not have happened at the actual farewell since there is very little time and

people are mostly engrossed in clicking photographs and scribbling on each

other's shirts. Though it cannot be compared to a regular farewell but it did cheer

us up during this trying time and also made us treasure the countless memories of

college life, a mixed feeling of sorrow and happiness.

International Yoga Day

Date: 21st June 2020

The ancient Indians believed that our body is a temple. They practiced yoga as a

means of celebrating and maintaining the body and the mind. Yoga is an ancient

physical, mental and spiritual practice that has its roots in India.

The word YOGA means to add - practicing ASANAS adds positive quality to our

mental and physical existence.

To celebrate the day of mental peace and good health 21st June is celebrated as

an INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY and we, the students, faculty and staff

members of Narula Institute of Technology, celebrate this day each year with

great gusto.

The year 2020 has been challenging in many aspects, caused by the sudden onset

of COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of on-going national lockdown, the usual

Yoga day celebrations had to be re-imagined and refashioned by the NSS

Committee of Narula Institute of Technology. We encouraged our students to

practice Yogasanas within the safe confinement of their homes and photograph

their postures. These were then widely circulated among everybody to raise

awareness and promote practicing of this beneficial habit. The response from the

students was overwhelming, as we received more than a hundred pictures and

videos documenting yogasana postures. It is a privilege to know our next

generation is keenly aware of this more than one-thousand-year old practice

79 | P a g e

which is both part of our tradition and heritage. The overall response made Yoga

day no less a success and the significance of the day was upheld in good light.
