JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

OPEN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
10-11 November
Plenty of notice so that we can have a big
representation of members competing in
these events.
On June 30th MUDTA trialled a registration
day to encourage new members to join and
existing members to renew their membership in a timely manner.
Potential members were offered free tennis and a sausage sizzle lunch while committee
members were available to collect their registrations and issue receipts.
Over 70 players enjoyed the sausage sizzle and many joined the regular 1pm Open Social
group for an afternoon hit.
Thank you to Doug Parker who cooked sausages for the juniors right up until 1pm when
Jim Wakefield took over. Great job. Pauline McIlveen our Treasurer worked hard all day
with the help of Mary Lou.
A reminder to those who still haven’t renewed - the new fees are: Adults $55,
Concession $45 (need to supply Centrelink Number - Not Seniors Card), Jun-
iors $35, Family (2 adults 2 children) $160 or Family (1 adult 3 children) $135.
Competition players MUST be financial members of the club.

THURSDAY NIGHT LADIES TEAMS FOR
COMPETITION COMMENCING 26 JULY 2018
Div. 1: Kerri Cassidy, Val Crook, Kate Rejc, Pauline McIlveen defeated
Maureen Mennie (for Chris Stiller), Rhonda Nisbet, Barbara Hollett (for
Pat Callahan), Hilary Neal 5 sets to 2.
Having lost the first 2 sets it wasn’t looking good for Team Cassidy, but
they knuckled down and won the next 5 sets. Some excellent tennis
was played by all players which was a pleasure to watch.
Div. 2: Lara Bennett, Kyla Hargreaves, Bev King and Melissa Charles
defeated Karin Davis, Sue Pascoe, Pauline Proctor, Jennie Beasley, both
teams winning 4 sets with Team Bennett on 44 games to 33 games. A
real nail biting final with great rallies and good tennis. Unfortunately
Jennie Beasley suffered a back injury in the second last set and had to
forfeit that set. Bad luck Jen, hope you are back on deck soon.
All players were presented with their Harris Scarfe vouchers, which
were gladly accepted, and we thank Harris Scarfe for their ongoing sup-
port of our competition. Carissa Ardler from Harris Scarfe was in at-
tendance at the beginning of the day to wish everyone success and we
appreciate her interest.
Kerri Cassidy for Div. 1 and Karin Davis for Div. 2 were recognised for
their sportsmanship and considerate play throughout the competition.
Well done ladies.
Thanks were also extended to Mary Lou Barclay for her dedication to
the running of the competition and to the Divisional Selectors for their
interest in selecting the teams.
A late lunch was enjoyed by all as the players did not finish their match-
es until 2.45pm such was the quality of play and the hard fought rallies.
For all information regarding the ladies Monday competition contact
Mary Lou Barclay on 0426 828 341. New players are always welcome.

2001 and 2009 - 2011 and has also held the position of Treas-
urer.

producing the first “Tattler” over 12 years ago and she still
publishes and emails the newsletter every month.
• She started the annual Vets Tournament in 1998 and although
she stood down from the role of Tournament Director in
2016 she still assists in any way needed.
• Val was awarded Life Membership in 2009.
• She has represented the club on many occasions at Country
week carnivals.

for the benefit of MUDTA over the years and we are grateful
for her ongoing involvement in our club.

CONDOLENCES
Pat Callahan from ladies day comp. is still battling to overcome an
injury to her leg sustained a few months ago. She is missing her
tennis and friends. We all want you back soon Pat.
Jim Della Ca from the “Old Boys Group” on Thursday mornings had a nasty fall and dislocated his shoulder. Jim is 85 years of age
and has been responsible for these boys for many years. We wish
him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the courts
soon.
Coach Kevin, whilst pruning the tibouchina bushes at the front of
court 4, attempted to cut his finger off in the process. Happy to
say he didn’t succeed and the hospital managed to “glue” him
back together and he is well on the way to recovery.
Great to have Marg Rasmussen and Laraine Dunn back at ladies
comp. Marg after knee reconstructions and Laraine having torn a
part of bone from her hamstring strain. You can’t keep good
women down.

JUNIOR COMPETITION
POINT SCORES AT 30 JUNE 2018
Three Ulladulla players went to Forster for the NSW Country Tennis
Championships recently with outstanding results at this level. Our 3
players were unseeded in all the events they entered and were most-
ly knocked out by seeded players meaning it took the best to stop
them
William Hatcher-Nee was a finalist in the 10 years Boys Singles only
to be beaten by the highest ranked player in the event. He also made
it to the semi-finals of the Doubles.
His brother Thomas played with the 12 year boys but was beaten in
the second round by the 10th seed.
He also made it to the 11 year Boys
Quarterfinals beating two higher
ranked players along the way. Tom’s
first round win in the 12s will give him
an Australian Ranking.
Natasha Phillips-Edgar was unlucky to
come up against some top players at
the start of her events. She was beat-
en in the first round of the AMT by
the 10th seed, knocked out in the 2nd
round of the 18 years Girls Singles by
the top seed and also beaten in the
2nd round of the 16 years Girls Singles
by the 3rd seed. Nevertheless, Na-
tasha’s first round wins in both the 18s
and 16s will take her to a career high
ranking.
Well done to all players.

The sunny weather ensured
lots of fun at the School Holi-
day Tennis Clinics with Kevin
and Ryan during the first
week of the holidays. The
next clinics will be held in

day morning. Contact Kev on

SUCCESSFUL TENNIS CLINICS HELD 9-12 JULY 2018
MUDTA hosted over 60 juniors aged 12 – 16 years from the South-
east Region, including 7 local boys for this Australian ranking tour-
nament.
Our Highest Achiever was relative newcomer to tennis Rylan O’Sullivan who won the 14 years Boys Consolation Singles after
being taken out of the Main Draw by the eventual winner. Rylan’s
results were at the expense of fellow locals Rohan Smith, Tyrone
Mathews and Isaiah Lewis.
Isaiah had a good first round Main Draw win and went through to
the Consolation Semi-finals. Tyrone and Rylan combined in the
14&U Doubles and lost a hard fought first round match.
Will and Tom Hatcher-Nee continued their good form of late in
the 12 years Boys with Tom winning 2 of 4 singles matches and
making the Consolation Quarterfinals and combining with Will to
make the Doubles Quarterfinals.
Although Will did not have a singles win one of his matches was an
epic 6-7(5) 6-7(2) loss to Tom.
Brock Pearse had a fortunate run through the 16 years events with
withdrawals in his draws to be credited with the Singles Consola-
tion Runner-up title and becoming a Doubles Finalist from just one
win.
Thank you Pauline Proctor and all the helpers in the canteen as well
as those kitchen whizzes who baked delicious cakes and slices.
Thanks also to match supervisors Keith and Jan plus Kev Murphy.
Many thanks to all of our sponsors and the volunteers who enable
these events to be held and ensure we are able to raise funds for
the continued maintenance of the facilities for all players.
All results and 129 photos from the 3 days of the tournament can
be found on the Milton Ulladulla District Tennis Association Face-
book page.
