ANNUAL HSEPERFORMANCE REPORT 2014
GeoSea has always been attentive to its environmental responsibility.
The use of biodegradable oil, noise mitigation sleeves, bubble curtains,
optimization by heat recovery from cooling water, efficient way of waste
management, are a few examples of our green initiatives. The increasing
amount of onshore activities was the trigger to get our management
system - already compliant with the nautical environmental requirements
- certified according to the ISO 14001 standard.
We consider the care for the Environment together with our care for
Safety, Health and Quality as our key values. More than ever the slogan
‘zero accidents and zero environmental incidents’
expresses our objectives.
In 2014 we have put a lot off effort in the update of process mapping of the
design, procurement, construction, maintenance and installation activities.
This gives our organisation the chance to optimize our activities in a
continuous and professional way, in the preparation phase as well as in the
execution and maintenance phase of our projects. We also launched
a ‘Safe Lifting’ awareness campaign and we accommodated
the Oil & Gas activities in a new company, named EverSea,
imbedded in the GeoSea organisation.
GeoSea has a very promising future; a lot of challenges
are coming towards us... new and more vessels,
projects, locations and employees to manage. GeoSea,
OWA and EverSea are ready to ‘tackle’ the next year
in a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly way:
We want to continue the efforts and realisations.
We had a lot of very positive responses from our
clients, the authorities, subcontractors and our
own employees on the HSE performance report of
last year. This is why we are proud to present this
new edition of the HSE performance report with
the achievements of 2014.
Take your time and enjoy reading about our HSE
performances, which are constantly evolving
and improving!

DEME: creating land for the future
POLICY STATEMENTQuality, health, safety and environment
Vision What we want to beGeoSea stands for the excellent high-quality design, procurement, construction and installation of offshore projects. Our trademark is our determination to be successful in activities demanding the use of the most innovative techniques. GeoSea resolutely chooses for the delivery of sustainable projects for man and environment.
The successful application of the most modern equipment, the use of prototypes, the development and use of new methods distinguish the way GeoSea finds solutions for every new challenge.
GeoSea: Innovative Marine & Offshore Solutions!
Values What we believe inAs GeoSea management team we consider “Quality - Safety - Health - Environment” as our key values. The underlying principles of the “Zero accidents and zero environmental incidents” slogan constitute our objectives. We must do every-thing we can to provide the necessary means for achieving this target.
Furthermore, every employee has the right and the duty to halt any activity whenever (s)he believes that the execution thereof involves unacceptable risks.
We believe that good work preparation can avoid high risks.
Policy What we want to achieveWe aim for a constantly increasing QHSE level based on the relevant industrial standards used in the industry (onshore and offshore sites, offices and quays).
Our priority is and remains the well-being of our employees and subcontractors through the creation of a high-quality, healthy, safe, and environmentally friendly work environment. Every employee receives the necessary information, instructions and training needed to execute their tasks.
The GeoSea management system processes are systematically assessed and constantly reviewed taking into account any improvements.
Our QHSE system shall be in conformity with all legal obligations and the requirements described in the following standards: • ISO 9001 Quality assurance Management Systems; • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems; • VCA** Safety, Health and Environmental Checklist for Constructors; • ISM International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention; • ISPS International Ship an Port facility Security; • OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety management Systems.
The industrial standards for offshore activities of the IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association), UK- renewables and the offshore Oil & Gas sector serve as a reference for the execution of our activities.
All applicable guidelines and standards recommended by the IMO Flagstate and Class shall be taken into account.
Strategy How we will do itIn order to deliver the above objectives GeoSea makes an inventory of all relevant risks on corporate level. Existing risks are assessed during project preparation and execution. Control measures are determined and followed-up.
In practice this means that: • clear agreements are made with our client(s); • we meet the requirements of our clients; • company processes are constantly optimized and adjusted; • we constantly strive for improvement on the basis of measurable objectives; • products and services supplied by third parties are followed-up; • we strive to satisfy our clients, employees and stakeholders in every respect; • an open communication exists, in which our partners are involved; • we ensure a profitable and competitive market position.
The QHSE department has the task and receives the means to verify the application and effectiveness of the global care system by means of audits and inspections of projects and ships.
QHSE is a fi xed item on the agenda of the Monthly Management Meeting and on that of the bimonthly Board of Directors. Within every level of the organization action lists are used. Action points can be transferred from one list to another. There are actions lists on board of the jack-ups as well as on Project Management Team and Process Owner level.
Scorecards How we will measure itGeoSea uses multiple Key Performance Indicators - KPI’s (SHOC, accidents at work, incidents, non-confor-mance, customer satisfaction, training, etc…), which are continuously monitored and adjusted where required.
Plans & actions What we have to doThanks to the use of action lists we can continuously adjust and assess our processes and organization.
Our yearly Management Review will be the foundation for our next Year Action Plan (YAP). The action lists contain priorities for the different levels within the organization.
This policy statement will be displayed on the notice board of every project, on board of every jack-up and is part of the introduction of every new GeoSea employee.

Introduction
This annual report gives a clear and sound overview in which
way GeoSea, her daughter companies and branches watch
over the Health & Safety of every person involved in our
activities and care for the environment.
• The GeoSea organisation possesses a range of certificates.
These are the ‘signs on the wall’ of the efforts we make to
improve our HSE level in a continuous way.
• GeoSea’s integrated management system is constantly
evolving according to the needs of our external clients and
fast growing internal organisation.
• The environmental care and performance are
inextricably linked with our operations. We focus on green
initiatives.
• HSE is periodically monitored by KPI’s. The fundamentals
of a good system are built on HSE inductions, toolbox
participations, HSE observations, inspections and drills.
• GeoSea puts a lot of effort into incident management.
We remain convinced of the positive effects of our constant
focus on high potential incidents.
• Qualified personnel and fully trained employees are
self-evident in our organisation.
• Every year GeoSea organises active awareness
campaigns: DEME safety moment day & CHILD initiatives,
year action plan and HSE performance report.
• GeoSea not only rewards projects and employees for their
dedication and HSE performance but wants to stimulate the
positive attitude towards HSE of its subcontractors and
suppliers.
• GeoSea and her daughter companies are expecting a new
vessel; green and state of the art. It is ready to work in the
oil and gas industry and in the wind industry.
• The DEME DRIVE program makes our activities more
efficient, safer and greener.

The project managers of GeoSea and her daughter companies
frequently take their time to “stop the clock” to record
the client’s satisfaction. One of the items that is taken
into account is the client’s appreciation of GeoSea’s HSE
performance. The results of this information are discussed and
evaluated during the yearly management review.
On the other hand, some of our clients are spontaneously
expressing their appreciation…
The HSE certificate from DONG has been highly appreciated
by the GeoSea project employees, project and general
management. It confirms that our efforts towards HSE are
also valued by our clients.
Feedback from clients
8
GeoSea, OWA and EverSea had a recertification for the
OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 and VCA** standards and obtained
an initial certification for the ISO 14001 standard.
We are speaking of an Integrated management
system because on the one hand:
For each activity we manage all relevant Q(uality), H(ealth),
S(afety) or E(nvironmetnal) aspects in one integrated generic
risk analysis, owned by competent process owners.
On the other hand:
All necessary subjects which normally form part of any
management system (QHSE) are integrated in THE GeoSea
management system. This includes the policy, damage control
principles, identification of legal and other requirements,
organizational structures, resources, documentation
requirements, communication, internal audits, monitoring and
measurement, improvement actions and management review.
On top of this:
We have integrated all necessary management system items of
OWA and EverSea in the GeoSea management system. There
is no difference between the management systems of GeoSea
and its daughter companies and branches. This integration
results in a more coherent and compact management system
with improved efficiency and effectiveness.
We have integrated the activities of EverSea in
our management system.
Since we were executing not only Installations
activities but we evolved towards Engineering,
Procurement, Construction and Installation
(EPCI) projects, we decided to upgrade the
scope of the management system. In line with
this decision we had our certificates updated.
The GeoSea group received some very praising reactions from
the external auditors.
“De aanpak blijft op een redelijke eenzame hoogte staan,
vergeleken met het gemiddelde van de sector.”*
VCA** auditor, AIB Vinçotte
“Continual improvement is baked into the fundamentals of the
quality management system on every level of the organisation.”
ISO 9001 auditor, Lloyds
“Very good commitment of management and staff was noted.”
OHSAS 18001 auditor, Lloyds
“Environmental awareness was found to be good with all the
employees that were interviewed.”
ISO 14001 auditor, Lloyds
* The approach stands out to a reasonably lonely height, compared with the average of the sector.

Introduction - ISO 14001
One of GeoSea’s achievements in October of 2014 was the
implementation of an Environmental Management System
(EMS) conform to the ISO 14001 standard. The goal of this EMS
is to reduce the environmental impact of our organization and
to profile GeoSea as a green company. By setting up the EMS,
procedures, risk assessments, operational instructions had to be
revised and extended with environmental measures to reduce
the environmental aspects.
Green initiatives
Also projects come up with a lot of green initiatives:
biodegradable oil and grease was implemented for all
hydraulic equipment at the HayPoint project in Australia.
This way, the protection of the environmental heritage (Great
Barrier Reef) is ensured. Biodegradable grease was also
implemented on the pile gripper and jacking system of the
Westermost Rough project in the UK. In order to reduce noise
emissions, GeoSea implemented bubble curtains on the Baltic
2 project and a Noise Mitigation Sleeve (NMS) on the Borkum
Riffgrund project. This Noise Mitigation Sleeve is a cylindrical
tube with hydraulic dampers which is placed on top of the
monopile; the hammering is done inside the NMS in order to
damp the emitted noise.
Green initiatives were taken on board of our vessels, like a
system of heat recovery installed on the cooling water of the
Goliath. On the Neptune, the power steering pump of the
cooling system was optimized. Also, the Neptune crew came up
with a revision of the vessel garbage management plan.
Award for environmental commitment
In order to stimulate its employees to work towards a greener
performance, GeoSea awarded the employee who did the
greatest effort to improve the environmental performance of
GeoSea.
Steve Ryckewaert received this award in 2014 for his
environment-minded way of working and promoting
environmental awareness amongst his colleagues. He is the
first point of contact for environmental issues within the
GeoSea technical department.

HSE performance
During the Management Review meeting it was decided to use an
extensive list of KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) to monitor and if
necessary adjust GeoSea activities. KPI’s are placed at all levels of our
organization.
In the graphs that follow, some of these KPI’s are published and discussed
in more detail.

Vessel incident management
GeoSea tracks the number of days each vessel has gone without a Lost
Time Injury being sustained.
The table below shows the results by vessel.
The Zeebouwer still leads the way with 2434 days without LTI. There has
never been an LTI on the Neptune, Arista and Aquata. The number of days
mentioned is the actual number of days since they became operational.
The Innovation on the Westermost Rough project received a certificate of

Environmental incident management
Incident statistics differentiate between severe and minor environmental
incidents. Severe environmental incidents are those which involve restitution
costs (consequence > 3 in GeoSea’s Risk Matrix). No major environmental
incidents were recorded in 2014, however 7 minor environmental incidents
occurred. There were e.g. oil spills on the deck of a vessel, but without any
spillage overboard.

Focus on high potential incidents
Half-yearly Trend
After a provisional half-yearly trend analysis of the incidents
of the first six months of 2014, we were faced with the same
amount of High Potential (HIPO) lifting incidents as we had in
the whole of 2013. GeoSea has taken immediate action and
extra precautions, as waiting until the end of the year to draw
conclusions was no option.
The result of this clear signal after 6 months resulted in ‘all
hands on deck’ and the start of a ‘Safe Lifting’ awareness
campaign to stress on the minor and major risks involved.
The lifting awareness campaign shows that GeoSea is vigilant
and keeps track of the evolution of incidents. We will continue
to organise tailor made in-house lifting trainings about tasks
and responsibilities of the lifting team and the quality of the
lifting gear.
Date
28/04/2014 Start of the First of 4 courses ‘Management of a Lifting Team’ for project engineers.

GeoSea lifting management course
The 3-day course GeoSea Lifting Management is part of
the lifting awareness campaign. In April of this year a first
version was introduced with 8 project engineers. This was a
good test regarding quality and content of the course. After
some adaptions and improvements the course was organised
another 3 times last year, in September, October and
November. It also has to be mentioned that the cooperation of
our partner Sarens-Heavy Lifting is much appreciated in this
course.
It is not the intention to fully train our project engineers to
become Lifting Supervisors. We want to give them a better
insight in the dangers that working with hoisting equipment
can entail.
To date 33 project engineers completed this course with good
results. All other project engineers involved with GeoSea
Lifting Activities are invited to take this course. To realise this,
we have already set new dates in 2015 to organise this course.
HSE personnel and training
Barge master course
This year the 3rd edition of the Barge Master Course was
organised at Quay 136. In this course GeoSea invites their
Barge Masters and assistants to join a 2-day introduction in
several important topics that they definitely will be able to
use in their functions on board of our platforms. Amongst
this year’s topics were onboard use of IMPACT, Oil and Gas,
MLC but also more practical sessions like actual jacking of
a platform and a training in the use of the DONUT system
(Emergency Descent System for elevated platforms). The
feedback of the participants was, again, very positive. An
encouragement for the organizing QHSE team and their
‘special guest-speakers’ to keep up the good work.
21
QHSE 4 specialists
GeoSea QHSE department traditionally organizes a yearly
3-day seminar for all its employees. During this seminar the
QHSE Engineers follow different QHSE related presentations,
demos, workshops and discussion sessions. They also take the
time to share experiences and discuss the different projects
they have worked on in the past year.
This seminar is well-appreciated by the attendees. Lessons
learned and shared information have turned out to be very
useful in their daily activities. It is an excellent time to work
out new strategies to tackle issues that presented themselves
during the past year. With joined forces the QHSE Engineers
can reach a higher performance level in the fields of Quality,
Health, Safety and Environment!
HSE inductions
During the past year GeoSea has performed a major upgrade of
its induction system at one of its permanent sites in Antwerp,
Belgium. Previously the inductions given at Quay 136 consisted
of a PowerPoint presentation which had to be given personally
and all inductions had to be inputted manually into our
registration system. This demanded both extra time and effort
from the GeoSea personnel. Time which, especially during
mobilisations or repairs, was often hard to find.
Therefore GeoSea opted to fully automate the induction
system. The first step in this process was to transform the
PowerPoint presentation into a voiced-over induction movie,
both available in Dutch and English.
Next, GeoSea integrated this movie into our intranet
(SharePoint) to automate the process of registry of the
inductees as much as possible. This resulted in an induction
which requires a minimum of manual action by GeoSea’s
employees and an increase in functionality.
All this was done in-house in order to assure GeoSea can react
quickly and efficiently to changes coming from our continuous
improvement philosophy and implement these in the induction.
Employee Safety Award
We received a bright idea for improvement from our Neptune
crew. By making some changes to the muster station
arrangements, they were able to optimize the mustering
procedure.
By using numbered places, the assembly at the muster station
is being done in a much more organized and quicker way.
The crew has experienced a much smoother, faster and
efficient muster drill.
In the upcoming year GeoSea will strive to extend this
approach not only on its fixed sites and vessels but also on its
temporary project sites.
22
Awareness campaigns
Safety moment day
This year DEME’s Safety Moment Day focused on incidents
resulting from people ‘Being Caught’. In light of this day, an
incident review showed which activities within GeoSea entail
the most risk for ‘Being Caught’: lifting and rigging operations,
handling of doors and hatches and moving parts on tools and
machinery.
An overview of these and other incidents, posters, a toolbox
form and movies, were distributed within the company. On all
GeoSea sites and vessels toolboxes were held to increase the
awareness on ‘Being Caught’, followed by an inspection of
the work place to spot possible areas for improvement. Over
200 colleagues participated in the Safety Moment Day. This
resulted in some SHOC cards with useful improvement ideas.
HSE is also important at home
As part of the QHSE awareness campaign of 2014, the HSE
Performance Report of 2013 was sent to all GeoSea employees
and contacts of our company.
GeoSea feels that a positive attitude towards HSE does not
stop in our office or on the work floor, but it is also inextricably
linked with our private life. Therefore a present that can be
very useful at home was included with the first edition of our
HSE Performance Report. Together with this very first edition,
everyone received a gift package containing a fire detector and
barbeque protection set.
Our ultimate company target ‘Zero accidents and zero
environmental incidents’ is not only applicable at work. We
consider it our way of life, also at home.

Year Action Plan 2015
Awareness starts with consciousness, sensibility, being
vigilant… It’s all about having the necessary knowledge or
insights. By means of the poster of the year action plan we
want to spread the knowledge on the QHSE items standing
out. This action plan gives a summarised overview of the
numerous activities that will be executed in the coming year.
It is based on thorough incident trend analyses, internal
audits, evaluation of new (legal) requirements in 2014 and the
outcome of the management review. It resumes the dozens of
concrete and specific actions for the next year.

Over the past years GeoSea’s QHSE performance level has been
rising and Client requirements have become stricter. GeoSea’s
subcontractors are challenged to meet the same standard.
An important step in subcontractor management is executing
QHSE audits and inspections in subcontractor facilities in the
early stages of a project. These audits and inspections allow us
to gain insight in the subcontractor’s QHSE management system
and evaluate the performance level. Furthermore, possible
QHSE issues are defined, and communication, involvement and
improvement concerning QHSE items is started up in the initial
phases of a project.
Another point of attention is centralization of subcontractor
information. A lot of data is available, but it often remains on
project level. Knowing that GeoSea often works with the same
subcontractors on different projects, it was important to provide
a system for sharing relevant subcontractor QHSE information.
For this reason a subcontractor QHSE database was started up.
This database is a cross-project platform that centralizes QHSE
documentation and information from GeoSea’s main suppliers
and subcontractors. The information in this database are audit
and inspection reports, QHSE management system certificates,
standard risk assessments and procedures. Project teams and
QHSE engineers can both consult and expand this database.
Finally a subcontractor list was set up to consolidate
subcontractor QHSE performance data coming from high
potential incidents, management review, and subcontractor
evaluations and feedback. This list allows GeoSea to objectively
determine which subcontractors require auditing or close
monitoring in the future. It is not seen as exclusion criteria,
but as assistance to subcontractors and GeoSea performance
improvement.
Cooperation of GeoSea and Falck Safety Services for a safety training of local stevedores in Aalborg-Denmark
A local stevedore injured his left hand during the load out of
monopiles in Aalborg-Denmark, earlier this year. A GeoSea
HSE engineer was sent out from Belgium to investigate the
incident.
After further investigation, GeoSea’s HQ decided to give all
local stevedores a job related Safety Course about Heavy
Lifting and general safety on the load out site. This course
(theoretic and practical) was produced by GeoSea HSE, in
collaboration with Falck. And so Anders Martinsen (Falck)
acted as an intermediate person between GeoSea and the
Danish stevedores. The first group was trained and supervised
by GeoSea HSE, the 3 following groups were trained by Falck
Safety Services.
The result of the training is that the stevedores now work in
a different (and safer!) way to handle the MP’s during load
outs. No more incidents were noted.

Subcontractor and Supplier safety award
GeoSea and its daughter companies and branches want
to stress on the importance of the HSE performance of our
subcontractors and suppliers. That is why we show our
appreciation to Hertel Scaffolding. We are convinced that
their positive attitude towards HSE can inspire our other
subcontractors and suppliers.
Working with Hertel Scaffolding stands for:
• safety first
• proactive attitude
• decent calculation notes
• stability study if needed
• open communication
• a project-specific HSE plan with risk analysis
• work according to rules and regulations
• flexibility
That is why GeoSea management has decided to give Hertel
the Subcontractor and Supplier Award 2014.
Subcontractor Award 2014
in recognition for distinguished service, GeoSea is honored
to present this award as a token of grateful appreciation
for valuable contributions to our company.
Awarded for the overall QHSE performance executing scaffolding and
wrapping activities during MOB/DEMOB of Neptune on Quay 136, Antwerp.

In 2014 GeoSea finalized its registry in the FPAL database.
This was one of the multiple steps taken in the process of
diversifying the GeoSea scope and thus including oil & gas
activities in our standard operations.
FPAL is a community dedicated to facilitate communications
and relations between major buying organisations and
suppliers within the European offshore oil & gas sector.
Currently it contains 95 buyers and 3.200 suppliers in its
active community.
GeoSea was already known within the Achilles organisation
since 2009 due to our participation in the Achilles Sellihca
database and starting from October this year we expanded on
this with the FPAL community subscription.
This is another indication of GeoSea’s dedication to be an
active, leading and exemplary member in the offshore sector.

The greenest vessel of the fleet: Apollo
GeoSea is building the greenest vessel of the entire DEME fleet. We can already lift a corner of the veil…
• power generation by solar panels
• power generation by wind turbines
• highly efficient cooling-water system
• recuperation of heat from the engines to warm up the
accommodation units
31
• level of insulation above standards
• use of motion sensors for lighting
• compliant with ENVIRO+ requirements (ABS class notation
for environmental protection)
• pollution prevention of sea and air discharges
• biodegradable oil and grease
• recuperation of rain water
• low NOx and Sox emissions for engines
• optimization of use of grease
• improved sludge water system
• streamlined shape of the hull
These items show the ambition we have to build one of the
greenest ships in Europe.
There is also a special brochure on the “Apollo self-propelled
jack-up vessel”.

DRIVE is DEME’s improvement program and focusses on
increasing production while maintaining the high safety
standard. In the DRIVE approach, crew and staff actively
work together to determine how to make work activities
more efficient; this leads to an increased process control and
therefore, a safer and greener work environment.
An example of increasing both safety and production is good
housekeeping. A well-kept site is much safer and since tools
and equipment are easily located, shorter cycle times and thus
higher productivity will be achieved!

How do we safely go on board a jackup platform?
Why does the PPE on jackups keep disappearing?
The futureproof workgroup ‘crew transfers’ focusses on the different
methods of offshore crew transfers and all logistics that is involved
with this. Since transferring between vessels offshore is a highrisk
activity, their aim is to identify the safest and most efficient method of
transfer. In addition, the team is looking at the ongoing issue of
‘disappearing’ PPE on jackup. People keep showing up on board without
the correct PPE, which then needs to be provided by the jackup. Giving
them the correct PPE is easy, the hard part is getting it back.
The future of: Crew Transfers
After consulting with some experienced GeoSea
personnel, a matrix of all existing and new
methods of transferring has been composed.
Updated procedures and guidelines will be issued
after this matrix is carefully examined and
evaluated. The cost of issuing individual PPE vs
jackup PPE is also compared. Another topic that
this group is working on is making sure that the
subcontractors that go on board have received
the correct training, such as the boat landing and
frog training.
