ANNUAL MEMBERS GOLF DAY Despite the Covid restrictions which were rigorously observed by the organisers, the club and the participants, the IRLA Members Annual Golf Day at Richmond Golf Club was close to an unmitigated success! Why? For the first time in many months and even at a distance, the opportunity to share a social event with market colleagues, even with the silly aim of pushing a ball round a field with a stick, felt somehow exhilarating! Winning or not, each team got to have a picture with the Dave Scasbrook Memorial Cup, giving us the chance to remember Dave and more important things like supporting the Bowel Cancer UK in Dave’s memory. GOLF DAY

Despite the Covid restrictions which were rigorously observed by the organisers, the club

and the participants, the IRLA Members Annual Golf Day at Richmond Golf Club was close to an unmitigated

success! Why? For the first time in many months and even at a distance, the opportunity to share a social event with market

colleagues, even with the silly aim of pushing a ball round a field with a stick, felt somehow exhilarating! Winning or not, each team got to have a picture with the Dave Scasbrook Memorial Cup, giving us the chance to

remember Dave and more important things like supporting the Bowel Cancer UK in Dave’s memory.

The weather broadly held out and driving home, at least for a few hours, the world felt pretty normal. Good time spent with good people; whats not to like

  • Rain did not stop play, well for 17 of our teams anyway, but slow play may have caused some pacing. All in all, the scores were good, the green was well kept, and the players were happy to be out. Sadly covid-19 guidelines meant we could not have the team breakfast or the bbq and presentation, but we managed to raise £800 from the day, thanks in a big way to PRO and Swiss Re, as well as those who waived any refunds and let the money go to Bowel Cancer UK.

Thanks to all the AMS team, especially Craig Oldfield, and the Richmond Golf staff who made the day happen along with photographer Ian Macaulay, who donated his time to the charity, for the great photographs we have here.

to congratulate the winners of the Dave Scasbrook Memorial Cup -

    THE KPMG TEAM

There were 19 socially distanced teams taking part, with last year’s winners PwC and runners-up KPMG teams hot to trot. In fact, the KPMG team was so fired up to get first place this time that they did so with a margin of 17 points. Full scores and placements follow.

133winnersThe 2020 tournament was held in memory of our colleague - Dave Scasbrook - and donations were requested from players and colleagues for Bowel Cancer UK We attach this short video from Luke Squires of the charity and ask that you also consider donating. Our thanks go to those who have kindly already made donations.

PhotographerIan Macaulay, photographer, has been working with IRLA for some years on our events and corporate presentations. But he has interests wider than this, do look at his covid exhibition: http://www.ianmacaulay.com/current-exhibition/

Ian donated his time to Bowel Cancer UK and the pictures in this newsletter show us that he didn’t skimp on his professionalism because it was free time. We are very grateful to him.

Donate - please mention Dave Scasbrook in your donationBowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer but with your help we can change that. Donate now and help us stop people dying of bowel cancer.

Due to the current coronavirus situation, our processes of banking, thanking donations and sending out materials may take longer than normal and, where we have a contact email address, we will be sending more things out by email rather than post. We are very grateful for all the support we are receiving and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/donate/

Our IRLA team said:Artur Niemczemski – It was great to play within such a great team. Thank you for inviting me.David McGuigan – Thank you Jenny for such an excellent day. Well done for leading our team and I hope we won!Jenny Fair - As the only female player the most noticeable thing for me was that the ladies tees were literally only a metre in front of the men’s tees at some holes. It was a great day and the toasted sandwiches were different.. yet delicious! Nick Fair– Thank you Mum for not embarrassing me too much!

It was great to be able to put on an event, in the circumstances, and to give even a few lucky people the opportunity to get out and see colleagues and friends; even better to be able to do it in pleasant surroundings and largely glorious late-summer weather.

I thought it was well run in the circumstances. It was frustrating that the club weren’t quite sure what they could serve food wise and that was all a bit chaotic, but they were reacting to covid and latest confusing announcements so I say fair enough.Similarly, some will no doubt moan about the state of the course. Its been a long hot summer and the course was dry and cracked, but so are all the non-exclusive courses around the same area. Its in a lot better condition than the Wimbledon Common courses. So, thanks all. It was great to catch up with people.James Bolton FCA, Director, Quest Group

    Hi Leslie-Ann,

Thank you for your email and I’m glad to hear the golf day went as well as it did under very challenging circumstances. Thank you for confirming the amount raised on the day (£800). That’s really great!Let me know if you need anything else at this stage and thank you for your support.

Best wishes.Luke Squires, Director of Fundraisingbowelcanceruk.org.uk
