DEFINITIONS


DEFINITIONS

Assurance standards The minimum standards of a quality Montana K-12 education.

Performance standards Average performance of students in grades 3 through 8 in elementary and grade 10 in high school on state assessments in reading, math, and science. Performance standards for high school also include the graduation rate.

Teaching missassignment A Montana licensed teacher assigned to teach a subject for which they are not endorsed or at a level for which they are not endorsed.

Not licensed teacher or specialist A person assigned in a school as a teacher or specialist who has not completed requirements for appropriate licensure in Montana.

Corrective plan A systematic procedure and timeline for resolving deviations from regular accreditation status. The plan details how the deviation has been resolved or will be resolved prior to the next school year.

Occurrences The number of years a deviation has been repeated continuously.

Intensive assistance process A required process for schools in continuous or serious deficiency accreditation status. Such schools have failed to develop or implement an approved corrective plan to remedy accreditation deviations within a designated timeline.

Elementary school A school consisting of either kindergarten through grade 8 or kindergarten through grade 6 in a district that maintains a 7-8 school funded at the high school rate.

Middle grades school A school that may consist of any combination of grades 4 through 9.

Middle school A 7-8 school that is approved to provide a basic education program that implements the middle school philosophy as defined in ARM 10.55.902(3).

7-8 school A 7-8 school that is approved for a basic education program that implements a departmentalized philosophy as defined in ARM 10.55.902(4).
