QUOTE OF THE WEEK! Just remember as we all start to get busier and busier -

Week 7 Term 4, 20th November 2013 Dear Parents,
In government schools, child protection education forms part of all students learning in Personal Development Health and
Physical Education from Kindergarten to Year 10.
The aim of child protection education in primary school is to assist students in developing skills in recognising and
responding to unsafe situations, seeking assistance effectively and establishing and maintaining relationships and
strengthening attitudes and values related to equality, respect and responsibility.
Students learn skills in recognising if they could be unsafe and strategies for protecting themselves.
Strategies including saying 'no' if they can, going away from the situation and telling a trusted adult what has happened as
soon as possible. Learning is organised into three themes: Recognising Abuse; Power in Relationships and Protective
Strategies.
Over the next couple of weeks, students in all grades will be completing their age appropriate child protection lessons. If
you are concerned in any way, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. All staff have a responsibility to report
suspected risk of harm concerns about children and young people and to provide support to children and young people
within their scope of responsibility. Staff participate in mandatory annual updates to reinforce their roles and
responsibilities as educators in primary schools.
Thank You Morning Tea
The staff and students at Kororo Public School have many parents and community members who have
contributed in a multitude of ways to our school during 2013. A morning tea will be held on Friday, 6th December in
the hall to say thank you to you all. Invitations will be distributed through your child’s teacher. If for some reason your
invitation is mislaid, please ask at the office for a replacement. Hope you are able to join us!
Annual Presentation Ceremony Our Presentation Day Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 10th December at 10am at school. All parents and carers
are welcome to attend. The ceremony is planned to be completed by 11.30am at the latest.
Hope it’s a great week for you!

LIBRARY NEWS As the end of the year is near, it is time to look through the bookshelves at home for school library books. Stocktake is starting on Monday, 2nd December and we would greatly appreciate it if all library books were returned before that date. Out of Hours Use of Play Equipment Just a reminder to the many parents who are allowing little ones to play on the fixed equipment in the afternoon. Please be aware that parents must be directly supervising their children. The school does not have individual insurances to cover student injury and after school hours there is no supervision on our part provided. Our general rule on the equipment during school hours is ‘if you can’t reach it then your not on it’. This seems to assist in guiding levels of safety on the equipment. The School Prayer As a result of community consultation and P&C discussion, the Religious Education Policy has been endorsed. The School Prayer will be a part of proceedings at class student assemblies (typically once per fortnight) and Student Representative Council assemblies held once per term. These proceedings will commence on Friday, 22nd November for Stage 2 students. Parents are able to seek exemption for their child through Mrs O’dell, our Deputy Principal.

Starworkers RITCHIES IGA COMMUNITY BENEFITS CARD
Remember while you are doing your Christmas food shopping to call into Ritchies IGA and use your benefits card. Ritchies donate a portion of the value to the school and other schools, soup kitchens etc in Coffs Harbour. We greatly appreciate their support and yours, all money received is used by the P&C for purchasing resources for the school.
PHILIPPINES APPEAL Earlier in the week we sent a note home asking for the donation of goods to send to the people of the Philippines after their devastating weather event. Thank you to those who have sent in clothes, linen, kitchen utensils etc for this appeal. All goods must be delivered and left on the school verandah by this Friday please. All goods will be sent to Sydney this weekend so next week is too late. We would greatly appreciate good quality items. (none that are ready for the tip). Thanks for your help, it’s just something that we can do, in a small way, to help the people of this country.
