Dear Cattlemen,

Welcome to our 8th Annual Production Sale. We are super excited about the depth of quality

we are offering this year. From the front of the sale to the last bull to sell, you will have access to

uniform, herd changing prospects. As well this year, we have added bred heifers selected off our

top end replacements.Our ‘factory’ is built around a handful of cow families that originate back to the first dozen

commercial 3/8 Limousin females purchased 34 years ago. Belief in ‘a bull is only as good as

the females he leaves behind’ is a breeding philosophy we follow closely. Our cow herd is

maternally driven and performance oriented and with the exception of purchased bulls, is

essentially closed. We understand most of our customer’s annual paycheck comes in the fall when they sell their calves off the cow.

As a seedstock producer, we take this responsibility seriously and want you to take as many pounds to the sale

barn as possible. POUNDS PAY! With bottom lines becoming tighter every year, commercial cattlemen can take

advantage of crossbreeding. Using Treftz bulls will give you that extra boost of hybrid vigor and heterosis when

used on Angus cows.We take great pride in customer satisfaction and relationships we have developed with many of you over the years.

As a relatively small cattle breeder, we know our cattle first hand and our product well to help you find what might fit

your breeding program. On the other hand, we are always willing to listen. Change is always constant and the same is

true in breeding cattle. If there is something we can change, add, or just tweak in the seedstock we offer, let us know.

This past fall we privately sold 60 registered Limousin females, from weaning heifer calves to older age bred cows,

to a handful of young cattlemen and women. It is promising and exciting to watch these new and upcoming potential

breeders as they start developing their own programs. We wish you well with your TREF genetics!

We highly recommend you insure your purchase on sale day as we all know the predicaments cattle can get into.

Policies will be available sale day through Grassroots Insurance or most private insurance companies can insure them

as well. We would like the bred heifers and fall bulls picked up sale day or shortly thereafter. If this doesn’t work for

you, please let us know sale day. A veterinarian will be available sale day to assist with health papers.

You won’t find our cattle at other sales or shows. All our energy is focused on one day, the second Saturday of every

February, to offer you our very best. We hope to see you then!

12019 TREFTZ WHERE MUSCLE STILL MATTERS BULL SALE

The 18-month-old bulls are virgin bulls. They have been on a ration of corn, dried distiller’s grain and free choice prairie hay to keep them in optimal breeding condition and Purina Availa 4 mineral tubs.

The yearling bulls have had a similar diet of corn, dried distiller’s grain, and free choice prairie hay and Purina Availa 4 mineral tubs. No silage is used in any of the cattle rations. CTC medicated pellets are fed for 5 days every 45 days to keep bulls healthy.

The bulls will be fertility tested and will have been vaccinated with Bovi-shield Gold FP5/VL5, anthrax and twice for pinkeye and foot rot prevention prior to delivery. The older bulls will be trich tested as well. All our cattle are on a complete Purina mineral program year around. Please let us know prior to delivery if there are required vaccinations for your area of the country that are important to you. We also pour the bulls monthly with different products to keep ahead of lice and rubbing issues.

Many of the bulls have been tested for the homozygous polled and homozygous black gene with the results listed on the pedigree of each bull.

We will keep the yearling bulls free of charge until April 1, 2019. After a satisfactory fertility exam, we will deliver the bulls with no cost to you up to 250 miles. Beyond that, we will work with you in getting your bulls delivered to an agreed upon central point. Please bring your trailers if you are thinking about purchasing a fall bull or bred heifers as we would like to move them as soon as possible right after the sale. We will deduct $50 for each bull taken home sale day. A veterinarian will be on hand to issue health papers where needed.

Our community suffered a great loss when Todd was taken from us suddenly and unexpectedly December 26, 2018. He was a great family man, cattleman, friend, neighbor, and American. A man with a plan, organized and driven, yet he always time to lend a helping hand to anyone. He and his wife, Marla, and their children, Austin and Amber, built a large cow-calf operation from the ground up while both maintained full time jobs off the farm to make it all work. They understood accomplishments came through hard work and perseverance.

Todd took great pride in his family and cattle. When we were still selling bulls private treaty, Todd was always the first to pull in the yard and make his picks. He never settled for second best, purchasing 19 bulls in that fashion. It was always

a joy to drive by their pastures seeing the bulls in his good care and their operation expand.

If that weren’t enough, Todd also ran a truck mounted stack mover for over 25 years that no one will ever be able to match. He could maneuver that big rig like most handle a compact car.

Rest in peace my friend—your work on earth is done. The last stack is in the hay yard and they are all in a perfect line.

LIMOUSIN DOCILITY The Limousin Breed was one of the first breeds in the continental United States to address docility and the temperament of cattle more than 25 years ago. NALF breeders began to record docility scores for cattle and utilize a docility EPD in their culling process and mating decisions in an effort to make dramatic improvement in their cattle. Since the initiation of the IGS BOLT EPD single-step cattle evaluation that allows breeders to compare EPD traits across various breeds, Limousin now ranks number 1 in docility among IGS cooperator breeds. This is positive testament that utilization of EPDs to make advancement in genetic traits in beef cattle can be successfully used to make genetic improvement in beef cattle on any trait when tools and technology are correctly applied to mating decisions.

HETEROSIS AT WORKThey say as you age you tend to go back to your roots. Well, in 2017 we decided to do just that by purchasing 20 F1 baldie (Hereford x Angus) heifer calves from a reputation herd. We bred them to a one of our bulls and the excitement in those calves was the same as it was in 1984 when our first Limousin-cross calves were born. The calves all came unassisted and the March and April steers averaged 646 lbs. October 24 sale day.
