THE SIA COLLEGE

Culture of SIA PARIVAR

The South Indian Association popularly known as SIA is a reputed and

old Institution which was established way back in 1948 in order to

maintain the identity of the Tamil populace in Dombivli in the social,

cultural and educational spheres. Subsequently, due to the natural

growth of the city and to cater the needs of heterogeneous population,

the association upgraded the Tamil medium school to English as the

medium of learning. Due to natural growth and the vision of many

eminent personalities, The SIA College of Higher Education was

established in the year 2010. The institution espouses the value of

“Vidya Dhanam Sarva Dhana Pradhanam”

The college was established in the MIDC area of Dombivli (East). The

college has spread over a wide area, with dedicated sports ground,

ventilated and spacious class rooms and computer laboratories. The

college offers related to Bachelor of Commerce, Information

Technology, Banking and Insurance, and Management Studies. The

motto of the college is “Knowledge is power”.

In the beginning, that is 2010-11the strength of our college was only

eleven students. In 2011-12 we had Two hundred and Twenty two

students, in 2012-13 there was strength of four hundred and four

students, in the year 2013-14 we had Five Hundred and Ninety Four

students.

Our goal is “Marching towards excellence…”

The year 2014-15 witnessed with the enrolment of students around seven

hundred and eighteen students. Our faculties are young, dynamic

enthusiastic and dedicated. We are having fifteen core faculties; out of

them four have completed the Lectureship examination and one faculty

has registered for Ph.D. We also have experienced and senior visiting

faculty members to share their knowledge in the area of specialization.

The non-teaching staffs are also equally co-operative and contribute for

the growth and development of the college. We are having around

seven Non-teaching staffs.

The objectives of this year

To achieve academic excellence by improving our results

To cultivate the research culture by organising seminars and

conferences.

To instil research writing by participating and presenting papers

in national and international level seminars and conferences

To preserve our value and enhance our cultural festivals

To explore and develop the hidden talent and skill by organising

various activities through department clubs.

Academic Culture…

Culture drives great results

Success is possible through hard work and commitment. The culture is

ingrained within our students and faculty members to achieve progress

in all the endeavours.

1. Induction Program:

Each course has taken imitative to create a courseware on the

various subjects at the entry level, providing them the

conceptual clarity and to make them familiar with the subjects

for easy understanding. 10 hours was dedicated to conduct such

lectures at their first year level.

2. Intensive training:

For this a batch of 30 is created and we provide intensive

coaching for all the subjects so that it helps the students to

prepare for their examination effectively.

3. Library periods:

To make the students to acquaint themselves with reference

books and journals for their academic enhancement, library

period is allotted in their time table.

4. Guest lectures :

Each course takes initiative to arrange subject expert lectures

and also industry expert lectures.

5. Remedial lectures :

Special sessions of 8 hours for each subject are allotted in which the

students who have not cleared get guidance to prepare for their

examinations.

Formation of Library club with 15 core members & supporting members.Library Week was celebrated from 7TH to 11th Aug2014 and the events like book exhibition, Quiz competition were organised.On 12th Aug 2014 National library day was celebrated and Students presented an overview of Budget 2014. The guest of honour was Mr. Muthukrishnan (Vice President) & Dr. Pratibha Gokhale( former librarian of Mumbai University) was present .The budget presentation was reviewed by Prof. Mrs. Devi Balaji.

The event was graced by Dr.Kranti Jejurkar, Chairperson,

Women Development Cell, University of Mumbai as the

chief guest, and keynote speaker Ms. R. Vimala, Deputy

Secretary-EGS, Department of Planning, and

Government of Maharashtra. We also had eminent speakers for

various business sessions to provide in-depth knowledge in the areas

covered by the seminar such as women as corporate czars, media

professionals, lawyers, academician and administrators, social activist.

To place on record around 17 participants from outside Maharashtra

were there to present their papers.

Industrial Visit

A visit to Jodhpur Dairy which works under Paschimi Rajasthan DudhUtpadakSangh ltd and are also called as SARAS DAIRY. A visit to Mehrangad fort and after that had lunch and went to Umaid palace.

A visit to Saraswat Co-operative Bank by Banking and

Insurance students to understand the various functioning of the

Banking System.

Persona Culture…

Student Council

Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated on26th July 2014; Mr Namdev Sawant

Ex Millitary Hawaldar shared his experience with our students.

Rally on World Population Day was organised on 11th July 2014 around hn-

100 students and faculty members participated.

Orientation Programme for the first year students of all the course was

scheduled in our Auditorium.

Friendship Day was celebrated by conducting the Treasure hunt

competition. 24 teams of 48 students participated in the event.

Flag hoisting and cultural programmes on the National importance was

organised on 15th August 2014

Animation Lecture was conducted by 3D - Dimension Institute and 80

students attended.

Shravansari- a poetic program was organised. A poem recitation program

was organised and presented by IT Faculty .Mr Sachin Karote followed by

songs.

Constitutional Day celebrated in college premises, Students were given

information regarding constitution & its contents.

College Days celebration such as Funky day, Cap day, Black & White day,

Traditional day, Saree & Tie day, Chocolate day were celebrated in the

campus. Miss.& Mr. SIA competition also held on Saree& Tie day.

SPARKLERS-2014-IconicMumbai-Intercollegiate Fest Sparklers was

inaugurated on 23rd Dec 2014 with the publication of Sparklers Cultural

Leaflet -RADIANCE. Various competitions like Rangoli, Ad-Mad show,

Nail art, Tattoo making, Talent hunt, LAN gaming, STREET PLAY, Group

dance, Solo singing, Mehndi, T-Shirt painting &Fashion show were

conducted. Many colleges participated for the event.

National Service Scheme

On World Population Day a Rally was organised along with 100

students & Faculty members from SIA College to Dombivli Station

and back to the College.

Mega Tree Plantation at Kudsavare Village,Wangani , 47  NSS

Volunteers participated in the tree plantation which was organised by

Mumbai university NSS Unit

Blood Donation camp was arranged in association with Chidanand

Blood Bank ,KDMC, Dombivli (W).Around 82 blood bags were

collected.

Consumer guidance workshop was organised by Consumer Guidance

Society of India.230 students attended the lecture on consumer rights

and smart investor.

Leadership Training Program at Titwala Goveli Village, two students

were deputed for five day camp as a part of NSS Activity

Yuvak Biradri Program at Bhaidas Hall, Charni Road,40 years

completion of Yuvakbiradri

A Motivational lecture was organised at Grand Hayat, Santacruz for

Youth. Two NSS students attended

NSS students performed a skit and dance on National Integration and

patriotism on the Independence Day.

NSS week was celebrated various activities like chart exhibition,

Career guidance Lecture on Competitive exams , Women

Empowerment Program and Cleanliness drive were conducted

WORKSHOP ON STREET PLAY was conducted by Mr Mandar

Nanal from RANGMANCH Institute

NSS Residential CAMP at KARAVALE VILLAGE was organised

for 7 days at Karavale village, Kalyan where students conducted

activities like lectures, cleanliness drive and medical camp in the

village.

RTO Traffic safety lecture was organized by NSS unit

Yuva Diwas organised a Power point Presentation on “How success

is achieved?” in association with Vivekanand Kendra, Dombivli.

Adult Computer Literacy Program was organised for a week for the people of Adopted Area.

Sports

Inter school Chess competition Organised by KDMC, Dombivli in

our College

National Sports Day (Birth Day of Major Dhyanchand) was

celebrated on college ground , various competitions like tug of war ,

box cricket were conducted for students & staff

Inter Class Carom Competition was held around 50 boys & 20 girls

participated.

Our students also participated in Inter College competitions held by

Mumbai University.

MNS sports competition held at KDMC Dombivli in which Students

participated & won Kabaddi match.

Students participated in the Inter-collegiate sports competition held at

Unnathi, KM Patel College.

DAZZLERS -Intercollegiate sports competition held in college

premises. Around 20 colleges participated in various events such as

volley ball, foot-ball, kabaddi, box cricket, chess, and carom.

Our students have represented in the various intercollegiate sports

competition events such as kabaddi, volley ball, cricket and tug of

war as winner and runners organised by YOUTH FESTIVAL,

‘RUPANTARAN, Dazzler etc.,

Ashutosh Lokare won gold medal in Inter- Collegiate JUDO

competition (Mumbai university) Organized by Mumbai University

on 17 January 2015.

Women Development Cell

Inauguration of WDC was done on 21st of July 2014 & Lecture on

Gender equality by Dr. Vaidehi Daptardar, Principal of Adarsh

College of Arts and Commerce

Defence programme was organised

Two Day National seminar on “Challenges and Opportunities for

women in the Dynamic Society” on 23rd and 24th of January 2015.

Club Culture…

“Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit” Jawaharlal Nehru

CLUBS:-

The clubs are initiated to inculcate additional qualities of enhancing

knowledge and its significance through competitions, seminars,

workshops and guest lectures. The SIA College has a good number of

clubs:

Tech-know (IT Club)

IT field is one of the fast growing industries which require skill and

potential to rationalise IT knowledge. In this regard, “Tech-know - IT

club” conducts activities for building the interface between academic

and industrial knowledge. It organises Guest lectures by Industrial

Experts. The proposed activities are competition on Multimedia Video

Screening and Embedded system

Buoyancy (BMS club)

“Buoyancy - BMS club, initiates various activities in the field of

Management. The club organises various events such as Public

Speaking, Video screening, Logo Quiz competition and Guest lectures

by eminent corporate experts. It also provides platform for the students

to put forward their ideas and views regarding the Social, Political,

Managerial and Environmental aspects of the society.

Bankers and Movers(B & I club) :

“Bankers and Movers “club, an initiative by Banking and Insurance

which tries to explore the skills and qualities required by Banking and

Insurance industry. Activities such as PPT, discussions and debates are

conducted. Proposed activities under this club are Visits to Banks and

B&I Mela.

Calibre(Commerce club)

B.Com a conventional course, takes initiative to motivate and explore

the hidden potential and skill among the students through “Calibre”.

This organises activities such as Express your Views, Essay Writing

Competition. Activities related to soft skill training and communication

skill are proposed.

Riddlers (Library club)

Riddlers-Library club, formed in order to create interest in various

diversified field, through debate and discussions. Various activities like

Union Budget Presentation, celebration of National Library Day, Book

Exhibition, and Quiz Competition have been conducted under this club.

Some of the proposed activities are National Science Day and Panel

discussion on Current Affairs.

Eco-Club

As the tagline says "Save and Keep Environment GREEN” was formed

specifically to encourage activities related with Environmental

Awareness and Conservation. Some of the activities conducted under

this club are Exhibition on Environmental Awareness through Models

prepared by students, Best out of Waste and Green Ideas (such as

Poems, Stories) related to Environment Protection and Conservation.

Parent Teachers Association

PTA meeting for all Third Year student parents was organised

on 21st June 2014 , 66 parents attended the meeting

PTA meeting for all Second Year student parents was organised

on 28th June 2014 , 50 parents attended the meeting

The first Convocation Ceremony was held on 24th January 2015; Prof. G.V. Subramanian, Secretary & Joint Director, Bharthiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkatta Kendra was the Chief Guest for the event. Around 55 students attended the same.

Enriching and Preserving our Culture

Gurupurnima celebration was celebrated by conducting Meditation session for students and teachers in remembrance of GuruOn 1st Sept 2014 Ganesh Aarti and Pooja were performed for celebrating Ganesh chaturthiOn 1st Oct 2014 Saraswati pooja & Garba Raas were performed by students On 25th Dec 2014 Christmas was celebrated by Carol singing program Sankranti and Pongal was celebrated in college premises on 15th Jan 2015.
