Our traditiOn Of giving

Father Ryan has a celebrated history of support from its loyal community—a history that began over 85 years ago when Bishop Alphonse Smith raised an unprecedented $300,000 in ten days. It is with this support that the tradition of giving at Ryan began. Thank you to all past and present donors whose generosity has built a foundation from which Father Ryan has provided superior Catholic education for 85 years.

Every gift to Father Ryan is needed and appreciated, and every gift is put to good use, whether it is to provide need-based financial aid, construct, renovate, or maintain facilities or develop new academic programs.

Publishing an Annual Report each year is a small way in which Father Ryan High School can publicly recognize those who have made financial contributions to the school.

Gifts included in the lists on these pages were received between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. Please take a few moments to read the names of alumni, current parents, alumni parents, friends, faculty and staff—as well as businesses, foundations and organizations—that made a contribution last year. Because of their support, Father Ryan High School can continue to be an experience of the living Gospel while challenging students to reach their academic, spiritual and personal potential.

Dear Father Ryan Community:

Two particular moments capture so much of the spirit of the 2010-11 school year and demonstrate our longstanding tradition of Faith, Knowledge, Service.

Early this past spring, our student body gathered in the Catignani-Drennan Fieldhouse and heard the announcement that the Father Ryan Marching Band had been selected as one of 11 bands in America to perform at the 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later in the season, on the day after Easter, over 500 of our students came to our campus on their day off to volunteer for the Special Olympics competition, being staged at the Jim Carell Alumni Athletic Complex.

Both events reflect the best of our students and our school—the talent and teamwork of our musicians and the spirit of service throughout our community. They speak to our mission in vital and uplifting ways, reminding us of the reasons we support Catholic education and Father Ryan High School.

The turnout on Easter Monday was just one way this campus came alive with our students’ Irish Pride. We hosted athletic events of all types, saluting our athletes and alumni at every occasion; we staged the nation’s largest student-run event in support of cancer awareness; we welcomed the University of North Carolina football team as they prepared for their appearance in the Music City Bowl; we became a national known center as the Tennessee Titans made us their home field; and this facility became a proud symbol of this school and its students.

The results of our faith in Father Ryan are proudly on display in this past year—seven members of the Class of 2010 were selected as National Merit Scholars; two teams claimed state titles in their sports; 100% of our graduating class was accepted to college; AP test totals and performance continued to climb. Standing atop these achievements is the service these students performed in homes and centers, in public and private, all in support of our fundamental principle of being a living example of the Gospels, every day.

I am pleased to present the 2010-11 Annual Report of Father Ryan High School, saluting the donors whose commitment to Father Ryan and Catholic education continue a legacy that has had an impact on thousands. As we continue to implement our strategic plan, I am confident that their continued support and the support of all of our alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends will enable us as a school to be the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.

On behalf of the entire Father Ryan family, thank you for your generous support.

Sincerely,

Jim McIntyrePresident
