2012-2013 REFLECTIONSIn honor of our children, the families that support them and the community that we have all built together, I want to express my deepest gratitude as I reflect back on one of our most remarkable years. We reached an all-time high in enrollment, celebrated over 32 years of Montessori in the Wood River Valley and I am happy to say that we reached 100% participation in our fundraising efforts—a goal we had not achieved in almost 10 years.

Thank you to all of you for your support and commitment to a truly wonderful option for educating the spirit of every child.

Warm regards,

Liza WeekesHead of School

BOARD OF DIRECTORSWill BaileyLucy ChubbChrissy GoveChris RootJim SlanetzJennifer Teisinger

As I reflect on the past year, I am humbled by the generosity and commitment of our teachers and parents. I am incredibly proud of our staff for their commitment to a matching gift to our annual fund. Their enthusiasm launched our 2013 Annual Fund effort and we never looked back.

It is an outstanding achievement to reach 100% participation from our parents and faculty, and I congratulate all that contributed to our success. Our School is only as strong as the people supporting it and with a 100% annual fund growth and 100% participation we further helped to solidify the bonds of our educational community.

The Board of Directors realized success in our three main objectives for the year: an improved balance sheet, investment into advanced education for our teachers, and continued improvement of the school facilities. Our fiscal health is primarily dependent on consistent enrollment and budget management. Further, and also of significant importance, is a successful Capital Campaign. Our Capital Campaign neared completion this year with significant commitments that helpedbring us closer to our goals.

In closing, I want to acknowledge our graduating 6th grade class of 2013. It has been one of the most rewarding components of my involvement with the school over the years to watch the upper Elementary grow and mature. As a parent of three children, it is the supportive environment fostered by the school that constantly reminds me of how lucky my family is to be a part of the Montessori community. Observing the senior students of the school include and support the younger children creates a culture of encouragement and confidence that I believe is crucial tothe educational process. I thank you all for your involvement and support of Pioneer Montessori School, and deeply appreciate your contributions.

Sincerely,

Christine Davis-Jeffers

From the Parents’ Association

The Parents’ Association (PA) is a committee of parents established to foster and support events for the children and their families to promote fun, education and a sense of community. The PA promotes communication among parents, staff, administration and the board of Pioneer Montessori School and offers the parents a forum to learn more about the Montessori Philosophy and School. The PA also supports special student scholarships, spearheads fundraising activities and is the driving force behind events such as the Harvest Party, Holiday Parties, The Spring Fundraiser, End of the year Celebration and more.

There is an executive committee of the PA made up of four parents: a community chair, a room parent chair, a philosophy and education chair a, and a fundraising chair. This committee meets five times a

year in October, December, February, April, and June. The committee works to reach out to the parent body to meet the needs of families and the school community. We have open PA meetings five times a year in September, November, January, March and May. In these open meetings we discuss upcoming calendar events, we have a report from the head of school and the board, and often Liza leads a Montessori education and philosophy forum.

2012-2013 was a great year for the PA. The Wellness Program, established in 2011, was designed to offer parents a way to come together outside of the typical PA meeting format and participate in an activity that promotes personal wellness. In 2012-13 we offered EFT, Meditation and Acupuncture, Pilates, Mindful Awareness, Homeopathy 101, Chinese Medicine and the 5 Elements, and a Green Smoothie Demo at Glow. Special thanks to Debra Drake and Studio Move for offering a beautiful space for us to gather and all of the people who offered their expertise.

The 2012 Harvest Festival was our most successful ever with almost every family in attendance and the market making over $6,000 to donate to the school. The day is such an amazing way to celebrate the community that we are a part of and to be able to give back to the school. The Spring Fundraiser was chaired by McNair Bailey, Jennifer Smith, and Randi McEntee and they did an amazing job of reminding us all “How Sweet It Is” to be a part of the Pioneer Montessori School. The event raised over $90,000 and was a wonderful night in March where 100% of our families participated in some way.

We hope to build on our successes from last year and look forward to another year to come. As always, we hope that if you have any questions, concerns, or need support in any way, that you will reach out to us.

Nancy FennPA, Spokessperson & Community Chair

The Harvest Festival was our most successful ever with almost every family in attendance and the market making over $6,000 to donate

to the school. The day is such an amazing way to celebrate the community that we are a part of and to be able to give back to the school.

It’s here! An All-Day Montessori program was added to our Preprimary and Primary classrooms, providing an “extended day” option where children continue to develop their social, emotional, and cognitive selves. More than half of our pre and primary families are currently using this program in its first year of implementation.

2012-2013 ANNuAL FuND DONATIONS

We are thrilled to announce that 100% of our parents, staff, faculty, and board participated in the 2012-13 Annual Fund campaign.

With the added support from our community, alumni, friends, and grandfriends, we succeeded in raising just over $121,000 for Pioneer Montessori School. As a vital part of our Montessori community, your

support is an investment in our students and serves to bridge the “gap” between the actual cost of a Pioneer Montessori School education and what tuition covers. Each gift matters and helps us to fulfill

our mission to provide an authentic Montessori education for our students.

We gratefully acknowledge the donors to the 2012-2013 Annual Fund:

WAYS OF GIVING

Donations to the School—your donations—support our priorities and passions. They pay for today’s necessities and tomorrow’s ambitions. And for that, we are exceedingly grateful to all who contribute financial support to Pioneer Montessori School.

Pioneer Montessori School is a private, non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. Like most independent schools, Pioneer Montessori School has two main sources of income: tuition and voluntary charitable contributions. Tuition does not fully cover all of the costs of educating each child. In order to intentionally keep tuition costs low, while offering scholarship aid to our families in need, we must raise additional funds each year to meet our budgetary needs. That “gap” between tuition cost and the actual cost to educate each child is met only through fundraising. That is why every donation, from every school family and friend of Montessori, regardless of the amount, is so appreciated.

Pioneer Montessori School offers a variety of ways to give and invites you to consider the giving options below. For questions, inquiries or donations, please contact our Business office at (208)726-9060 x101.

On behalf of the students and faculty at Pioneer Montessori School, ThAnk yOU FOR yOUR SUPPORT.

AnnuAl FunDThe Annual Fund is a yearly fundraising campaign aimed at garnering unrestricted financial support from our families, grandfriends, alumni and friends of the School. These funds go directly into the operating budget and help to support scholarships, special projects and enhancements, dedicated faculty and staff, quality materials in the classrooms, campus renovations, and dynamic educational programs. This Annual Fund support is essential to keeping Pioneer Montessori School sustainable. your donations have allowed the School to keep tuition costs as low as possible, while also increasing our financial aid to many families. The Annual Fund is a tax deductible opportunity for all who give. Gifts many be pledged or paid any time prior to the school’s fiscal year end, July 31. Make your gift today!

mAtcHinG GiFtSMany employers offer a Matching Gift Program wherein they match, double, or even triple a donor’s contribution. We encourage you to check with your employer concerning a Matching Gift Program. Participation is usually as simple as providing Pioneer Montessori Scholl with your company’s matching gift form when you send in your own gift.

tHE SPRinG FunDRAiSEROrganized by the Parents’ Association, the Spring Fundraiser is one of the two major fundraising events (along with the Annual Fund) at Pioneer Montessori School each year. This event is highly anticipated and always well attended. All families are encouraged to participate in this important and enjoyable event by volunteering, attending, bringing guests and/or donating and purchasing items.

Pioneer Montessori School, following the vision of Dr. Maria Montessori, is

a private, non-profit school serving the diverse needs of children 18 months

to 12 years of age. The school is guided by a community of faculty, families,

staff, administration, and a board of directors. Together we provide education

for life by nurturing every child’s lifelong LOvE OF LEARning.

Pioneer Montessori School recognizes and nurtures the child’s individual

academic needs while following the child’s innATE DESiRE TO CREATE his

or herself. We accomplish this by preparing stimulating, age appropriate classroom

environments with beautiful manipulative materials. These environments are

designed to teach to the WhOLE ChiLD and, with the guidance of our specially

trained faculty, follow their natural tendencies to master skills and EMPOWER

each student to realize his or her own potential. We promote the acquisition of

these skills by providing a cooperative environment where student work is both

self-directed and teacher guided, thus allowing the child to develop the ability

to Think inDEPEnDEnTLy.

At Pioneer Montessori School, we strive to CULTivATE COMPASSiOn, instill

confidence, and awaken consciousness for oneself, others and the world

that surrounds us. Our dedication to authentic Montessori principles and our

partnerships within the community make Pioneer Montessori School a wonderful

option for families and children in the Wood River valley. We intend to remain a

MODEL OF ExCELLEnCE as we continue to nurture every child’s lifelong love

of learning.

Pioneer Montessori School does not discriminate on the basis on race, color, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, national and/or

ethnic origin in the admissions process, its educational policies, programs, and activities, tuition assistance, or employment.
