Message from the President
It has been another busy year for the Association being the transition
period that occurred with the formalization of the new Management
Committee (MC) for Singapore Gymnastics. We had some new
board members who came on board and brought along their own
expertise, experience to serve the fraternity. Following the success
our team has achieved in SEA Games 2015, we nominated some of
these gymnasts and coaches for the Singapore Sports Awards 2016
and were gratified that our WAG and RG team has been given the
Meritorius Award (Event). Our RG Coach Zhu Xiaoping has also
received a Special Award for Fortitude for her selfless dedication to
the sport in spite of her health condition.
A key initiative which we have instituted is to re-introduced Sub-Committees (SC) for
the various disciplines. These sub-committees, chaired by a chairperson/head
appointed by the MC, consist of a group of technical/non-technical volunteers from
the fraternity. I am pleased to see these committee members actively putting forth
their proposed plans and directions to the MC for further discussion and
endorsement. This is very important as we develop a new Multi-Year Sports Plan to
escalate the sport to the next level.
Apart from the competitive endeavours, we had two very special groups of
participants in GymFest 2015. They were Deerland Pre-School by Bishan North CCC
and Everland Childcare & Development Centre. This has been made possible
through our efforts to outreach to childcare centres via the Early Childhood
Development Agency. We believed that every child is an artist, with imagination
and the artistic instinct. We were heartened to hear that their participation has
brought them positive experiences and helped developed their self-motivation and
self-confidence.
An advisory panel comprising of selected ex-SG Presidents and MC members was
also set up to advise the MC on the directions and strategies that will benefit the
gymanstics fraternity in Singapore. We are also in the process of formulating a
National Proficiency Awards Programme aimed at growing our talent pipeline. The
tireless efforts of our advisors, board members, secretariat, athletes, coaches, judges,
and volunteers have given us the support as we work towards realising our goals and
objectives. Lastly, we must also acknowledge and thank Sport Singapore for their
support and continued belief in our sport. We remain committed to serving and
moving forward together with all of you.
Yours Respectfully,
Choy Kah Kin

Marketing Report
Electronic & Social Media Platforms
Singapore Gymnastics’s website, electronic communications and social media all
continued to play a pivotal role in promoting the sport to the fraternity and keeping
our members updated on the events and activities that we are involved in. As of
now, our Facebook page comprised of over 2750 fans connected to us.
Our primary social media objective remains clear, which is to increase awareness of
our gymnasts’ experiences regularly with their friends, family and supporters through
these media platforms so that they feel being part of our team and in turn
encourage many others to join.
Our weekly SG Posts continue to provide news updates to our mailing list subsribers
as an alternative avenue to keep themselves abreast of what is happening in SG,
especially for those who may not be able to visit our website regularly due to work
commitments.
Sponsorships
Singapore Gymnastics seeks donations and sponsorships from corporations and
individuals to fund our various programmes and support needy gymnasts. Our
initiatives range from ensuring our events run at positive margins to providing various
forms of subsidies to gymnasts under the Financial Assistance Scheme so as to esnure
equal opportunities for all. Our corporate sponsors have seen their brands being
strengthened through their active involvement in such cause or social responsibility
programmes.
For the financial year ending 31 March 2016, total sponsorship in cash received by
Singapore Gymnastics amounted to $7,000 while total sponsorship in kind amounted
to $10,400. The cash portion came mainly from Singapore Press Holdings Foundation
Ltd. For Singapore Open Gymmnastics Campionships 2015, the total sponsorship in-
kind primarily came from the 20 hotel room nights sponsorship from AQueens Hotels
& Resorts Pte. Ltd.
Ticketing
Total adult and concessionary ticket sales for GymFest 2015 increased 2.4% and
22.9% respectively over GymFest 2014. This shows that the event is gaining popularity
amongst the younger viewers. Singapore Gymnastics’ ticketing strategy is based on
affordable price and accessibility to as many people as possible. The ticket prices
range from $5 to $10. Tickets purchased online are priced slightly cheaper than
tickets purchased at the door.
Merchandise
Singapore Gymnastics continues to offer a range of gift items such as t-shirts, key
chains, towels, water-bottles, notebooks, and pens for sale via the website and at
10
events. In FY2015, total sales of Singapore Gymnastics merchandise for the 3 events
amounted to $1,705.50.
Moving forward, Singapore Gymnastics aims to bring in more funds by out-reaching
to more corporate partners through sponsorships tie-up (non-traditional form of
marketing). Sponsorships have proven to be an effective method of heightening
sponsors’ visibility in their community and help to enhance their public profile.

High Participation
Competitions
28th SEA Games 2015
With Singapore playing host to the Games for the first time in 22 years, Singapore
Gymnastics took on the responsibility for the Gymnastics competition, comprising
Men’s & Women’s Artistic Gymnastics & Rhythmic Gymnastics.
Key Annual Competitions
The Singapore Open & National Championships continue to be the key annual
competitions for elite gymnasts to compete on home ground and progress along
the pre-defined pathway right from 5 years old in the Kinder category towards
international standards at International Junior & Senior level. Singapore Gymnastics
continues to conduct a grading exercise at these events, monitors athlete progress,
and results are used to identify and measure gymnasts’ progress.
FIG Event Sanctioning
The Singapore Open Gymnastics Championships 2015 was used to select gymnasts
to represent Singapore in Men’s and Women’s Artistic at the World Championships in
Glasgow. With the event being linked to the selection of the Singapore
representatives, FIG sanctioning was important and gained for the Junior and Senior
International categories for the three respective disciplines for the third consecutive
year of our competition.
Event Venue
The Singapore Open Gymnastics Championships and National Championships
continues to be organised at Bishan Sports Hall, the gymnastics venue for the Youth
Olympic Games in 2010 and South East Asian Games 2015. Last year GymFest
continued to be organised at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
Event Team
The event team comprises of Singapore Gymnastics Staff & Sub-Committee
technical representatives, the national pool of judges, key volunteers and
contractors. This enthusiastic and loyal team have together helped to deliver these
3 successful annual events.
Participation Numbers
Participation numbers continue to increase year by year, with around 3 times the
number of competitors at both competitions in 2015 compared with 2010.
12
SG continues to see healthy participation numbers at our competitions especially in
rhythmic gymnastics.

Singapore Gymnastics was represented at the World Gymnaestrada in Helsinki from
8 - 20 July 2015 by a team of 43 participants from Nanyang Primary School and St
Margaret’s Secondary School. The event attracted over 21,000 participants from 55
countries.
GymFest 2015
GymFest Singapore 2015 was organised in November 2015 with 250 participants
including some pre-schools, member clubs and 2 teams from Malaysia. For the
second year running the event was organised modelled on the Gym for Life
Challenge Format, where participating teams are awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze
based on some criteria.
Membership
Of all the membership types, Athlete Membership has seen the largest increase.
Since 2012 it has been a requirement for all gymnasts participating in SG
competitions to be Athlete Members. Singapore Gymnastics is now able to keep a
database of gymnasts, verify their date of birth for competition entry, and provide
personal accident insurance for gymnasts for our events. As participation numbers
continue to grow at SG events, SG membership continues to rise. Individual
Membership has also seen a rise with the increase of judging and coaching courses.

High Performance
Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG)
Fresh from podium success at SEA Games 2015, the men’s team participated in the
Senior Asian Championships held in Hiroshima. Injuries however hampered their
performance at the competition, with most opting to sit out of the All-around to
focus on individual events.
At the 2015 World Championships, Gabriel Gan and Timothy Tay attempted to gain
entry to 2016 Olympic Test Event. Gabriel Gan achieved a rank of 147th with an IAA
76.798, whilst Timothy Tay finished 169th with IAA 72.932, with the qualifying score at
81.130; both did not qualify for the 2016 Olympic Test Event.
Our Juniors comprising of Lincoln Forest Liqht Man, Zac Liew, Kaeson Lim, Robin Sim
and Eli Low participated at the 58th Regional-Kansai University Championships held in
Hyogo. For most of the juniors, this was their first competition overseas, and they took
home invaluable experience.
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)
The World Championships 2015 held in Glasgow was the selection for 2016 Olympic
Test Event, and Singapore fielded Nadine Joy Nathan, Janessa Dai and Ashly Lau.
Despite our efforts, we were 0.8 points short of the score to qualify for the Test Event,
with Nadine Nathan achieving 49.598 and ranked 108th. Ashly Lau ranked 123rd while
Janessa Dai ranked 137th.
The Pacific Rim Championships in Richmond saw the debut of 2 new Seniors, Tan Sze
En and Colette Chan. Tan Sze En ranked 11th All-Around with a score of 50.550, a
respectable achievement in a tough competition that also saw world champions
from the USA, and top athletes from Canada and Australia. Singapore Team came
in 7th out of 10 teams. The women’s team continues to build on their experience in
preparation for better performance on the world stage.
For the third year running, our women gymnasts have clinched the prestigious
spexScholarship, which provides support for training & competition of high-achieving
elite athletes. This year, Nadine Joy Nathan was awarded this scholarship.
Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG)
At the Zhongling Cup held in Beijing, 8 Juniors participated including Yeo Siew Lyn,
Jael Chew, Phebe Lau, Avryl Tan, Cheryl Lee, Alicia Lim, Tammy Ng and Leah Chew.
Yeo Siew Lyn emerged champion in the Rope, Hoop, Ball, and Clubs events.
Consolidating their experience, the junior athletes competed alongside athletes
from Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong to achieve good results at the Singapore
Open Gymnastics Championships 2015.
At the first international competition in 2016, our Seniors Yeo Siew Lyn, Edlyn Ho, and
our Juniors Michele Lau, Phebe Lau, Cheryl Lee and Aiko Tan showcased their new
routines at the Aphrodite Cup held in Kalamata. Coach Natalia Rybak, who joined
19
the team in late 2015, injected these athletes’ routines with refreshingly different
choreographies. Our juniors, represented by Michele Lau, Avryl Tan and Aiko Tan,
then went on to compete at the Asian Junior Championships held in Astana.
Moving forward, RG prepares to field athletes in both Individual and Group events
regularly, to widen opportunities for more athletes, and to improve Singapore’s RG
standing in the world.

Conflict of Interest
MC, AC and Sub-Committee members are expected to avoid actual and
perceived conflicts of interest. Where these members have personal interests in
business transactions or contracts that SG may enter into, or have vested interests in
other organizations that SG have dealings with or is considering to entire into joint
ventures with, they are expected to declare such interests to the MC as soon as
possible and abstain from discussion and decision-making on the matter. Where
such conflicts exist, the MC will evaluate whether any potential conflicts of interest
will affect the continuing independence of MC members and whether it is
appropriate for the member to continue to remain on the committee.
SG Reserves Position
As per the Reserves Policy, the Management Committee aims to provide stability to
fund the structural costs in case of a decline in SportSG’s subsidies. The Management
Committee reviews the annual surplus semi-annually and apportions 30% of the
surplus to a restricted reserve.
The Management Committee aims to build up this fund to about SGD500K or
approximately equivalent of one year of salaries. About SGD100K will be held in an
operating bank account to fund working capital requirements. Since setting up the
reserves fund in 2010, the reserves have been held in a separate Fixed Deposit
account. The current amount is adequate to cover at least salaries for re-
employment transition in case this NSA should stop operations.
SG is up to date with the submission of our Online Evaluation Checklist via the Charity
Portal and the renewal of our Institute of Public Character (IPC) Status.
