Dear Friends,

The theme of this year’s Annual Meeting is “everything old is new again.” Girl Scouts is as relevant today as it ever has been in it’s 104 year history. The girls of today have amazing experiences in Girl Scouts, whether it is building a fire at a campout, conducting a flag ceremony at a civic event, planning a troop trip with money earned from selling cookies or singing silly songs and playing Strut Miss Suzy at a troop meeting. All of these experiences promote confidence, build self esteem, teach girls how to work together as a team and build young women who have courage, confidence and character.

Many challenges facing the council have been addressed in the past year. Some have been resolved, and we are tackling the remainder head on. We have trimmed our budget and gotten our finances more manageable. We are making every effort to be more open and transparent, conducting more forums and town hall meetings, and giving updates through the Girl Scout Circle on actions taken by the board. We’ve launched a new website that will help us stay connected and inform our busy membership.

We have placed two camp properties up for sale, and we are committed to retaining Coleman, KPC, Cottaquilla and Trico and making sure these camps are well maintained and open for use so that we can provide exceptional outdoor camp experiences to our girls.

We conducted a chief executive officer search and were fortunate to find our new CEO, Karen Peter-lin, who has extensive Girl Scouting knowledge and a passion for the organization. She is committed to engaging our volunteers, listening to their concerns and getting the best outcomes for our mem-bership. She has an open door policy and welcomes all to visit our headquarters.

Juliette Gordon Low once said, “Truly, ours is a circle of friendships, united by our ideals.” I believe the same about our council, we are a circle of friends united by our ideals and I believe that fact will move this council forward for the girls. Girl Scouts played a huge role in my life as a girl, and it con-tinues to do so as an adult. It excites me to see the Movement continue on in leading girls to be great women of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
