DIMS affiliated organizations hold weekly consulting hours. Here, users are able to hand in drugs for analysis, anonymously and discretely. If the sample can be determined, the composition is passed on directly. OPEN If not, the sample is sent to the laboratory for further analysis. A week later, the drugs have been analysed and the results are communicated. Sometimes the result is so disturbing, that a warning or Red Alert is issued. ! Extra dangerous drugs What is DIMS? The Drugs Information and Monitoring System is a national network of testing facilities that aims at gaining an insight into the market of controlled substances. In terms of number of submitted samples, cocaine is in second place

with a share of 12%.

The average percentage of cocaine incocaine samples varies throughout the years, but increased the last years. In 2017, a cocaine powder

contained on average 68% of cocaine.

Cocaine is often cut with levamisole, an anthelmintic for animals. In 2017 it was

added to 41% of the cocaine samples, again a steep decrease compared to previous years.

4-FA (4-fluoramphetamine) in 20174-FA (also known as 4-fluoroamphetamine or 4-FMP) currently forms 72% of all samples of NPS that are handed in at DIMS.

From 2013 onwards, there was a strong increase in the number of 4-FA samples handed in at DIMS. In 2017,

the number of 4-FA samples decreased sharply.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR)Since 2016, DIMS uses FT-IR for analyzing some samples. FT-IR is reliable in detecting adulterations, and a proper estimate of

concentrations can be made. By using FT-IR, less samples need to be sent

to the laboratory, allowing for more analyses in a faster way.

LSD in 2017Two percent of the submitted samples consists of LSD. In less than a quarter of the submitted LSD samples, substances other than LSD were detected.
