Dear Readers,
Many years have gone by since I moved to Mumbai from my humble village
following my marriage at a very early age. For over 20 years now, I have been staying in
the Maharashtra Nagar area of Mankhurd. The plight of people here immediately filled
me with despondency. While it was disheartening, it drove me to try and change this. My
passion to help in the betterment of society pushed me to enter this field. I was
determined but lacked direction. If I wanted bring some changes, I had to learn. I started
meeting different people in social sector and came in contact with the Community
Development Officer of MCGM. As a woman I understood the power a woman has and
effective utilization of this power surged me forward as I decided to form Self Help Groups
(SHGs) under the Swarnajayanti Shahari Rojgar Yojana.
Women empowerment was the main issue we wanted to focus on and
hence we formed Vishwashanti Mahila Vikas Mandal in 2005. Though women
empowerment was our core work area, we were involved in other community activities
like employment generation, child labour eradication, vocational training, sanitation &
health, housing etc. This year the organization has been actively involved in many
activities like providing midday meals to anganwadi children, waste management under
Swachcha Mumbai Prabodhan Abhiyan, organizing training workshops for women
Message of Founder
empowerment and livelihood trainings. For the upcoming year our goal will be to
work towards the holistic development of the community.
Regards,
Mrs. Sangeeta Kamble,

Vishvashanti Mahila Vikas Mandal (VSMVM) is a Non-Governmental
Organization founded in the year 2005 by the proactive women of the community of
Mankhurd area of Mumbai. The organization was formed with the view of holistic
development of the community through basic education, health and protection of rights.
Special focus was to be given to the women of the community. The organization’s
governing body consists of mainly women from the community. The organization’s apex
focus of women empowerment is tried to be achieved through not only the
aforementioned aspects but also by seeking out and providing the women with
employment opportunities.
Self Help Groups are an excellent medium to empower women as they help women
grow as citizens of the society as they become more independent and self sufficient.
Through provision of various kinds of employment opportunities, SHGs strengthen women
of the society. It also furnishes for capacity building of women by organizing numerous
training and awareness campaigns about literacy, employment opportunities, and health
among others. To fulfill its aim, the organization has taken up various projects. One of
these being the garnering jobs for women by having them cook and provide nutritious
food to the children of Aaganwadi in ICDS program and run canteen at the government
offices.

We have achieved great success by the Federation
It is done by the two federations to complete all skill training and contractual work of the
savings group.
A judicial battle has been successfully fought through the Federation for a whole year.
The Central Government had decided to shut down the supply contract for Women Sav ings
Group (THR) in all Agnewwadi and give it to the capitalist company contract of Premix Food.
Under this guidance of the CITU (All India Anganwadi Employees Association), the
fight has been successfully fought by participating in this judicial war with the jijau women
Bachat Gat (Satara), the ideal society development organization, the Kokan division, the
Women's Association, the Federation Mahila Federation and our two federations. This is our
job to women's savings groups. Our tool gave us back. Premix canceled the contract of food
and gave a big boost to the central government and the capitalist company.

1.2 Child Development
Goal
The organization is very sensitive to small children. the organization looks to
have a share of the salt in their work, creating awareness among the children
about healthy diet and guidance about government scholarship.
Under this project, we focused on the right to education.
The children in the age group of three to six years have been given 25% reservation
by the government. This provides free education to the economically backward and
backward classes in private and government schools. But since the information was
not available, the general public could not avail the benefit of this scheme
.Therefore, the awareness program was done on behalf of the organization .
Right to Education Under this scheme, we were guided by the organization
regarding the application of 30 children's application form, and the documents
required for it.
A seminar was organized on various subjects for the benefit of the children's
skills.
❖
1.3 Community Development Project
Goal
Improve the living standard in the economically backward
community . Objective
➢ To give room to each room holder the same area.
➢ Establishment of Housing Co-operative Societies and monitoring of all
works under this.
➢ Making all the basic amenities available to every member.
➢ Trying to improve the educational and social status of all of them.
➢ To ensure a satisfying and stress free life every member survives.
Maharashtra Nagar of Mankhurd is a slum area where majority of the community people
belong to underprivileged families. Bhim nagar is one of the community areas in Maharashtra Nagar,
where there were no water, toilet or housing facilities available. The houses built on that land were illegal
as the land belonged to Mr. Jaisingh Thakkar (landlord). In 2001, the landlord asked all the people
staying on his land to vacate it as he wanted to give the land under redevelopment. One day without
taking the consent of the people the demolition was initiated. In 2003 people went to the court seeking
justice and the demolition was stopped. In 2006 during Mumbai floods VSMVM was at the front to help
everyone in Maharashtra Nagar and that is when the organization came into limelight in the area. In
2007, Mr. Thakkar restarted the demolition process and was opposed by people. He then asked for legal
proof and when nobody could provide any, he gave BMC’s notice to the people and they were asked to
vacate the place as soon as possible. People again approached court and in 2008 the case started. Some of
the community people were not supporting the rest which was creating tension among them, so in order
to solve this Ms. Sangeeta with the help of other community members established Panchashil Bhimnagar
Rahiwashi Sanghatna. Power of attorney was given to Ms. Sangeeta to fight the case. In 2011-12 in the
final hearing the community people lost the case. Then they approached high court but the case was sent
back to session’s court and the judge asked both the parties to settle the matter outside court and people
should get their houses back. Then a middle way was agreed upon where the residents gave 20k to the
landlord and in return he gave them rooms of (13 * 13).
Since 2013, the scheme has been started to provide basic facilities to the residents, because
the most important requirement was toilets because the people of the habitat were exposed to toilet so
we could get the toilets in the habitable area .for the same, for the two year postal correspondence
Project Background
between MHADA, comparator and local MLA, Our efforts were successful in 2016this year. MHADA got
the toilets in the settlement of the MLA fund and given its responsibility to the organization.
Bhimnagar Nagar, Mankhurd being a slum area has major sanitation problem, there are no toilets in
people’s home and no access to clean public toilets. In this regards, the organization planned to enter into
sanitation related issues. With the help of Local area Leader, VSMVM successfully implemented
sanitation project of two community toilets having 10 seats each in Bhimnagar.
In this regard, we repeatedly requested the Municipal Corporation and also the local corporators and
MLAs. With the efforts of water, the question of water has been solved and today the water is available
for 82 households.
The organization has undertaken many programs to improve the educational and social status of this
resident for the past 12 years. It has successfully completed the program by inviting various organizations
and organizing regular programs on various subjects.

As girls approach adolescence, they face the start of a narrow bridge. As they move through adolescence
they must cross this bridge, emerging at the end as adult young women. However, the bridge through
adolescence is a risky one for girls. They are significantly more vulnerable than their male counterparts
and are more likely to fall off the bridge. Adolescent girls face poorer health outcomes, are more likely to
become infected with HIV, more socially isolated, less likely to make the transition to secondary school or
to complete it, and have fewer income-generating opportunities. The organization works with the
adolescent girls through ICDS program, where they create awareness about skill development, conduct
English speaking classes.
In India where almost half of the population is women, they have always been ill -treated
and deprived of their right to life and personal liberty as provided under the constitution of India. Behind
closed doors of homes all across our country, people are being tortured, beaten and killed. It is happening
in rural areas, towns, cities and in metropolitans as well. It is crossing all social classes, genders, racial
lines and age groups. Offences against women which reflects the pathetic reality that women are just not
safe and secure anywhere. Such women need emotional support and VSMVM provides them that support
by offering counseling services to them. For legal support the organization refers them to lawyers and
accompanies them to police stations. The organization conducts meetings with self-help groups in which
they talk about these issues so that people can refer such cases to VSMVM.
Sessions with Adolescent girls
Counseling services for women
The Objective is to ensure a safe and health
environment for girls and women of the society
Even after decades of freedom, India is struggling to provide basic health services to its people. Thyroid
cancer is commonly diagnosed at a younger age than most other adult cancers. Nearly 3 out of 4 cases
are found in women. This situation calls for timely care and diagnosis which can reduce the incidence of
morbidity and mortality especially among children and women. To reduce such incidences VSMVM had
organized a health check up camp. Thyroid checkup camp was organized for women above 40 years and
specialized doctors from Thyroid Organization were invited. The women who were identified with thyroid
problem were referred to a hospital for further treatment. Besides the health check up camp a stall was
put up by Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) offering vocational training opportunities to youth. Many
youth visited the stall and got information about the different courses offered by Kotak Education
Foundation
Hemoglobin Check up Camp
Hemoglobin check up camp was organized by the organization in collaboration with Family Planning
Association (FPA), Tilak Nagar. The camp was organized on the same event of savitribai Phule Jayanti
where all the women present were asked to get themselves tested, but only 50 of them took the benefit of it.
These women were given reports after 8 days of the check up and those with sever health issues were
referred to FPA for further treatment.
HIV AIDS Awareness Rally
HIV AIDS Awareness Rally On 15th December 2015, an awareness rally on HIV AIDS and Swachcha
Mumbai Prabodhan Abhiyan was organized by VSMVM. Around 300 people had participated in the rally
which included mahila mandal women, anganwadi teachers and sevika, students of Subhash Chandra
Bose, community leaders and staff members of World Vision. They were given t-shirts with a message
Health Check-up camp
written on it, “Zero HIV”. The participants shouted slogans like “Hum sabka ek hi nara, swachcha
sundar sheher humara”, “Amche laksh, Zero HIV”, “Ek do teen chaar, HIV ho haddapaar”.
Civic Service Program
PAN card and Adhar Card Distribution The organization in collaboration with Don Bosco organizaed a
PAN card and Aadhar Card distribution camp, where 100 people filled the form and received their
respective documents in few days. Equipment Distribution Under MCGM’s Women and Child
Development department funds are kept to encourage women entrepreneurs; women are given necessary
equipments to initiate their enterprises. In the last year VSMVM in collaboration with Women and Child
Development Department organized a programme where 30 women were given various equipments to
start their enterprise.

career in their early years. But lack of proper guidance can take time
to build a career. Guidance and help in reducing that time and
getting them out early.

VSMVM plays an important role in this process where the organization helps the SHG in getting
outside orders, doing their audits, informing them about different government schemes. This
helps the SHG expand their business and earn profit.
We have launched the online service. We also have demand for online food provide
campany like zomato, swingi, uberfood, etc.

India is the dominant country. Women are always given a secondary position here. No
matter how much we say that women are making progress in all fields, even if this is true,
you have to legislate against domestic violence for the protection of women.
Today, every woman is the victim of domestic violence. the man has come to
think that this woman is a private property and that no matter how we treat her, she would
have assumed that he would not say anything. All of us endure seeing the world and
children.
Women are often complaining of domestic violence when it is very difficult. It
involves the efforts of our family all the time, so seek first the help of the social
organization.
The Help Center has been set up to help women who are victims of domestic violence.
Through this center, we accept the applications of the woman. A committee has
been constituted in this regard. All activities are carried out through this committee.
The Committee first verifies the truth of this application. The woman is then
consulted. Also, every member of the committee knows that our role is a guide. If the
matter goes beyond conviction, the organization recommends adopting a law route.
The center has successfully resolved the grievances of several women in the area.
Today, those women are happy in their famili
