The officers and members of the North Thurston Education Foundation (NTEF) Board of Trustees are

pleased to release our 2018 Annual Report. As we transition from 2018 to 2019, we want to take a

moment and reflect on this past year and provide you with a glimpse of the year ahead.

We are excited to share that in 2018, we raised $420,764.29. Because of you, NTEF was able to exceed all

previous funding levels of the following programs:

• Every school in the district has access to Student Assistance Grants. In 2018, NTEF helped 1,650 students

meet urgent needs. In some cases, this meant keeping the lights on at home, paying rent or buying a new

pair of shoes. NTEF donated more than $100,000 to support students.

• Every school in the district has a minimum of $500 to fund their McGimpsey Pantry Program. This program

helps ensure that students have needed personal items and food to eat at home, on weekends and outside

of school hours.

• Teachers received over $37,000 in Learning Improvement Grants. These grants enable teachers to

focus on improving student achievement in the classroom by exploring new, innovative and creative

teaching methods. On April 30th from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Bower Learning Center, teachers who have

received Learning Improvement Grants will share their innovative classroom programs at the Learning

Improvement Grant Showcase. We encourage the community to attend to support our teachers and

celebrate innovation.

• Financial support to educational outreach programs which directly support North Thurston Public Schools

(NTPS) students. These programs include VOICE, Gravity, Boys and Girls Club, the Clean Kids Program and

the Little Red Schoolhouse.

• Approximately $120,000 in Scholarships to support graduating seniors, from each of the four NTPS high

schools, pursuing post-secondary education.

As we look ahead to 2019, we recognize that our community faces significant challenges. In North Thurston

Public Schools, census data shows that there are 850 kids who are homeless and 15 families living in their

vehicles. In 2019, expect to see NTEF increase efforts to address this issue along with our partners at the NTPS

and the City of Lacey.

Continued contributions from our generous community enable NTEF to meet the growing needs of our

students, families and staff in this district. We are so grateful for our success in 2018 and for your support

that allows us to fulfill our mission of Removing Barriers, Enhancing Learning and Enriching Life for students

in North Thurston public schools. North Thurston Education Foundation looks forward to a productive and

successful 2019.
