MISSION

Page 5: ANNUAL REPORT · 7/1/2017  · FINANCIALS AT A GLANCE. OUR FISCAL . YEAR 2018 DONORS Vision - ($50,000.00 + ) ... The Kroger Co. Timothy and Patti Lally. Michael A. Marrero H. Gordon

Friends,

Dreams come true. Perseverance, patience, and teamwork may be required - but dreams do become reality. Each and every day, friends just like you make choices to support the work of Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky.

Because of that support, dreams become reality for our families and clients in care. Neglected and abused children in state’s custody have a safe place to stay and receive trauma care. Youth struggling with a serious mental illness have round-the-clock care in our new psychiatric care units. Grade school students needing specialized interventions attend CHNK’s day treatment program. Students receiving outpatient services remain in their schools while simultaneously working with CHNK therapists to address an addiction issue and work toward sobriety. Dreams about health and wellness, about permanency and protection, about overcoming monumental barriers, become reality every day at CHNK.

During Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2018, CHNK increased the numbers of youth and families impacted by our care. We decreased our dependency on investment holdings and we gave birth to multiple new treatment lines. Even with all of these exciting developments, CHNK also became Kentucky’s only Sanctuary Model certified site for trauma-responsive care and earned a regional gender equity recognition from a Cincinnati think tank.

To all of you, our incredible donors and supporters, I say thank you for making dreams come true. Our dreams of the kind of world we want to live and pass on to the next generation are becoming reality because of your devotion to our mission.

Gratefully,

Rick W. Wurth Chief Executive Officer

Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky first opened its doors in 1882, bringing to life

one man’s vision to provide hope and opportunity to the most vulnerable children in the

community.

Today, CHNK is a premier provider of behavioral health and substance use treatment.

Outpatient, residential, and educational services are designed specifically for youth and

families who have experienced mental health disorders, addiction, abuse, neglect, or

other serious trauma.

Operating out of three convenient locations in Northern Kentucky, we annually impact

over 2,800 youth and family members across the Northern Kentucky/ Greater Cincinnati

region. Our team of nearly 100 healthcare professionals takes a trauma-responsive and

family-focused approach to treatment.

CHNK is governed by a Board of Trustees. Each trustee serves for a minimum term of three years. Individuals nominated to serve on the Board of Trustees are chosen based on their exhibited concern for children and families of the community, their community leadership and involvement, their ability to provide responsible financial direction and assistance, and abilities, attributes, or assets that will help CHNK further its mission.

While we take great strides to make sure every supporter who gave a gift to CHNK between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 is included in this annual report, we realize that a name may have been mistakenly omitted. We apologize if we have inadvertently failed to recognize one of our valued bridge builders. Please contact our Office for Development via email at [email protected] to be added.

THERE ARE MANY WAYSTO SUPPORTCHILDREN’S HOME OF NORTHERN KENTUCKYMONETARY GIFTSA gift of unrestricted dollars is the best kind of gift for CHNK, since we can use those funds for our most urgent, critical needs. Since we’re a 501(c)3 organization, all donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donations can be made by check, credit card, or stock gift.

To send us a check by mail, simply make it out to Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky and mail it to:

CHNK Office for Development 200 Home Road, Devou Park Covington, KY 41011

To make a credit card gift by phone, call our Office for Development at 859.292.4135, Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

To safely and securely make a credit card gift online, visit www.chnk.org/donate.

To give a gift of stock, please contact our Office for Development at 859.292.4135 for the information you will need to transfer the stock to CHNK.

APPRECIATED SECURITIESIf you own securities that have appreciated in value over time, you may owe a substantial capital gains tax if you sell them. But, if you use such assets to fund a charitable gift, you may completely avoid the capital gains tax while enjoying a federal income tax deduction for the full value of the securities. For information on donating securities, please call us at 859.292.4135.

A GIFT IN YOUR WILL OR LIVING TRUSTA simple, flexible, and versatile way to help CHNK is through a gift in your will or living trust, known as a charitable bequest.

BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONSAre you passionate about supporting CHNK even after your lifetime? It’s easy to do with a beneficiary designation; simply name CHNK as a beneficiary of your retirement plans or life insurance policies.

GIFT CARDSNot only do gift cards to retailers like Target, Amazon, and Kroger allow us to purchase the most needed items at a specific time, gift cards are also easy to store! We also are always in need of gas cards, TANK bus passes, and fast food gift cards to assist our clients.

FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIACHNK can be found on all the major social media sites, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. Follow, like, or friend us to stay in the loop on all the latest activity taking place at our agency!

SHOP FOR A CAUSEDo you shop at Kroger, Remke Markets, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, or Amazon? You can raise money for CHNK simply by shopping at these stores.

On your computer or mobile device, visit www.kroger.com/communityrewards and follow the instructions

for registering your Kroger Plus Card in support of CHNK. When asked to enter our assigned NPO #, type KH159. Then, every time you swipe your Kroger Plus Card when making a purchase, we’ll receive 3% of the total - up to $50,000 per quarter! And don’t worry – none of your fuel points or e-coupons are affected by your participation.

On your computer or mobile device, visit www.remkes.com/my-account to register your Remke Rewards

Card in support of CHNK. Look for the “Caring Neighbors Non-Profit Organization” field on the webpage, and select CHNK from the drop-down menu. Then, every time you swipe your Remke Rewards Card when making a purchase, we’ll receive 2% of the total!

Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky is proud to be one of only three Joseph-Beth Gives Back Partners

in Northern Kentucky. When you join the Joseph-Beth Gives Back Program (their customer rewards program) and make a purchase, 1% of the total sale is donated to CHNK. Visit www.josephbeth.com/givesback for more information (select the Crestview Hills location) or to sign up online.

By starting your shopping at smile.amazon.com and selecting CHNK as your charitable organization of

choice, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible purchases to CHNK.
