2. Details of Chapter Activities during the Reporting Period
1. Website activities.
SPIE Vladivostok Student Chapter Website is fully restored and is hosted by Official server of Far
Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. Now it is used to search for new members, to
draw attention to events provided by our chapter and to demonstrate results of chapter’s scientific
and social activities. Chapter officers decide to make our renewed website only on English
language to improve knowledge of this language among Chapter members. You can estimate our
efforts using following link. http://www.spie.dvo.ru.

2. Chapter Officer regular meetings.
The meetings were held regularly during the reporting period. All the officers were required to join
the meeting to discuss the plan of chapter activities. Members were encouraged to come and bring
up their recommendations and comments.

To stimulate scientific activity of the chapter members officers jointly with Chapter
Advisor Prof. Yury N. Kulchin decided to make a special scholarship at the rate of 200$ to the
most active chapter member. The number of publications, participation in the conferences, as well
as, scientific and social activity were chosen as a selection criteria. We hope to continue this
tradition in the next year and increase the size of the scholarship by attracting an additional funds
from our institute. We congratulate Alexander Nepomniaschiy –the winner of a special prize in the
2011.

3. 40-th Anniversary of Institute for Automation and Control Processes Far
Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (IACP FEB
RAS)/Workshop “Photonics of Micro- and Nanostructures.”
From 11 to 17 Sept. 2011 our institute celebrated the 40th anniversary of its foundation (the real
date of the anniversary is June 1, but for some reason the celebration was postponed to the
autumn). In this regard, Workshop "Photonics of Micro-and
Nanostructures" was organized in our institute. Within the
workshop about 20 reports devoted to the development and
practical application of micro-and nanostructured materials and
systems were made by leading Russian and foreign scientists.
SPIE Vladivostok chapter members took an active part in the organization and holding of this
event. This included assistance in organizing of the ceremony dedicated to 40th anniversary of the
IACP FEB RAS, organization of coffee breaks, organization of excursions to the "Russkiy island".
This excursion includes the visit to the new Far Eastern Federal University Campus, in which in
2012 the 24th annual summit of APEC leaders will be held, and to the Voroshilov Battery. On the
workshop Chapter members presented 3 oral and 7 poster presentations. Detailed scientific and
cultural programme of this event is located on iacp.dvo.ru/pnms2011. Detailed photo report is
presented below.
